When I sailed SeaWolfe down to St. Pete a while back I was bringing down the jib and it was all a mess on the forward deck. While I was dealing with it I was thinking "what a pain in the rear...I need a roller furling".
@SeaWolfe59 Not just that but in a moderate sea the bow pitches something fierce. Being able to raise the jib from the cockpit is safer and allows for single-handed sailing. I thought I wanted it until I got it. Then it was like "how did I live..."
Thats exactly part of the problem...the bow is up and down in these Tampa Bay waters sometimes and if your single-handling and you need to go forward its damned scary sometimes! I prefer to have a crew...usually of the female variety. :)
@SeaWolfe59 Make it part of your future. Now that we have one, I don't know how we went without it. The only "issue" we had was size. It's a Shaeffer 880 if I remember correctly for boats up to 28'. Well, um about that. We had to install an 8" lead because the furler maxed out before it reached the mast. It seems that Morgans have a little more sail area than newer boats of the same size. That is why in the videos the foot is so far off the deck.
