first heard punta in california back in 1989.im american but my extended family were from dangria village and after about two bottles of crabbo i learned how to dance pretty good. memories of fried jacks, crabbo, conch fritters and good old beliezian hospitality will always leave love for all belizians(garifuna, stan creek ) in my heart!!!! i havent seen too many belizians here in new york but i know they represent!!!

To those having the African discussion, it's definitely influenced by those that came from Africa. What was brought from Africa was the drum beat, but the drum beat is not enough for it to be punta. It needs the other sounds that compliment it, those sounds had already been in Honduras prior ro the Africans arriving. punta music definitely would not be what it is without the influence of both. It sounds similar to West African music but it is not an exact copy.

The Garinagu are a mix of African, Arawak, and Carib ancestry. Punta became latinized from the word BUNDA in the mandé language from West Africa, which means Buttocks. Dunda is a fertility dance (sex) which has nothing to do with what the word in spanish implies. This is a fact whether YOU! like it or not.
