@ronnieflipps1 OK. I ask you if you *do* predict mass extinctions, planetary destruction, and lack of breathable atmosphere on a timescale that we need to worry about. And if so, on what basis? We can start out speaking generally, and then narrow the focus, if you like. Arguably, a mass extinction is underway at this time. Such things are not always noticeably cataclysmic. What did you mean in your original post. I'm sincerely interested.

How, exactly, do you think that discontinuing the study of cosmology will help avert the mass extinction and planetary destruction you are predicting? Is it a safe guess that you are a 2012 loon?

It's very hard to destroy a planet. Somewhat easier to do harm to ourselves. And it's idiots like you (stupid, ignorant, irrational, but opinionated) who worry me the most.

I've seen both lectures of dr Peebles, and must say, this one is a quite sloppy.

Also I think he spends a little too much time on showing group photos..

I love the way Prof. Peebles explains how science is done and how valuable the ability to doubt and say so is in science. Great lecture. Thanks for posting!
