Oh please... going without a cage doesn't make you tough... it just leaves your mouth open to getting teeth knocked out. In a social league its unlikely anyone is making enough money to laugh off the costs of dental repair. It's fine in the NHL where they make significant money to put up with that kind of thing.

The cage gets annoying sometimes - but I don't want to risk taking a puck or a stick to the face. Hockey is expensive enough without dental bills on top.

I never understood why people would take off cages in a beer league. There's not even hitting, so it's not like you'd be "hiding behind the mask." I played a beer league last summer and I got a follow-through right in the mouth, but I had a cage so I got to keep all my teeth. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me.
