Yeah combat in itself in RPGs are almost impossible. On one hand you have players that want to fight and have that excitement, on the other you dont want your game to get bogged down. Its a nightmare because it never really accurately portrays combat anyway.
If you can manage to get the real players that dont care much for combat as much as story, hold onto them unto your last breath.
Generally, I hate combat in RPGs. But I have to say to your credit, I had a hell of a lot of fun in 7th Sea combat. It's actually the one game where I didn't avoid combat like the plague. I also played in a Mage the Awakening where we have a 40 person mass combat, and the ST handled it so well that it flowed perfectly anyways. But yes, over all combat mechanics... suck.
