  • Oh man, what memories! My favorite horse is the bay jumper on the outside with four white socks and the angel decoration on the saddle. I always had the best luck with getting the rings in the clown's mouth with her.

The trick was to collect up rings for the first half of the ride, then concentrate only on throwing them - best time was at the top of a jump cycle exactly as you're a quarter-revolution away from the clown.

  • You should make a CD of the 165 and 146, they sound great!

  • Boy, I just can't believe that you can still grab a ring and try to throw it into a clown's mouth. I thought that every one in the world stopped doing that. Well, Good thing some people still do it.

  • All of the Boardwalk's band organs have been outfitted with electronic MIDI control mechanisms for controlling the original valves. The paper roll mechanisms have been removed which make access to the instruments easier for tuning and maintenance. Cheerio! - Donaven Staab / Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

  • @beachboardwalkfun

    They've been removed?

I guess I could understand, but I hope your park is keeping them in a safe place!

I guess you have 2 150 roll frames, and 4 165 frames, because of the duplex system,

I favor the rolls but I do understand because it's a pain to get around to the pipes to tune it!

  • Does the organ still play 165 rolls?

  • I can't stand that the organ is behind the glass!

Why don't they shove that Law on other parks?

I know that wouldn't be good but I think a IPOD can hurt your hearing more than a band organ can.

Plus if it's about the building, it's good for the organs and is wonderfully designed because it's near the ocean and can cause the organs to get very out of tune.

It'd be nice if there was a door where you could see the back of the organ at full volume.

And I hope the restoration goes well!

  • I rode the carousel today. My favorite is the biggest white horse on the outside... the better to catch the brass rings with! I decided I'm going to buy myself a season pass since I'm now going to the beach twice a week for my ukulele jams... There's nothing like the teaming humanity at the Boardwalk... I hike the beach so I get some quiet time in the water too... it's a nice contrast. I grew up at this Boardwalk!

  • When do you throw the rings?

  • Be happy, Boardwalk. I've just bought "Carousel By The Sea"! TODAY!

  • Thanks disneygrab1. Hope you like it. It was fun to make!

  • The Beach Boardwalk is uh-mazingg. =D

  • I love this carousel! You should mention the brass ring game and the real calliope, both are treasures in addition to the beautiful horses :)

  • actually it's a Wurlitzer 165 band organ.

  • Actually this tune, "At The Balalaika," isn't from the 165 - it's the Ruth organ playing 165 music.

  • yeah I realized that a few weeks ago
