I'd like to respectfully disagree with comments on Caballe. I'm wondering if this is not age-ism creeping in here. It is true that voices change as they get older, but this sounds to me like genuine Caballe. She never had a flawless voice. There were always small 'catches' in her throat when she sang, but she still has the tone, and she does have the coloratura. Again, her coloratura was never as seamless from note to note as it could have been. But with all her faults, this is still Caballe.
Agreed. But at the same time, opera legends like Caballe often do not have anyone telling them when it's time to stop singing, and it can be sad when that situation arises.
I don't know, if you're concerned about keeping a flawless (or close to it, since nobody is perfect) reputation I could see that. But I don't care how good of a professional career I have, I will never stop singing! I'd never think of quitting just so I could be remembered as a perfect model of an opera singer.
I don't know...if I started to really suck, and was impressing a new generation of listeners as an old, done singer, I think I would stop. But I haven't given it much thought for myself personally, to be honest. First, I need to START singing as an opera singer ;D
she sang this with Jackie Horne in a free outdoor concert in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco at the time of the Semiramide there. Awesome version !! Was televised.
Caballé recorded this aria in Rarità Rossiniane, and sang it often in concert, with varying success. Her most outrageous (albeit intended) version is during a performance of Donizetti's LE CONVENIENZE E INCONVENIENZE TEATRALI (1827), also known as Viva la Mamma! (also on this channel). There are moments of beauty in this performance, and the early Caballé surfaces here and there. I'd rather hear Marilyn Horne in this aria. However, what else can one say? Caballé is Caballé. Y punto.
omgosh, her pianissimo is just beautiful

Woah chill out, everyone. A voice cannot be flawless forever.
