A child won't remember how candy was taken away frm him.
Kids cry fast and recover fast too, they're quick to react and I believe the true emotions that children portray without giving a second thought to rationalise it was what Greenberg was trying to capture and she did successfully, that is why the pictures come across so raw and disturbing. Thats why irrational people think she is going overboard just becoz of how moving her art really is. gd tt she got a reaction from the public I believe
Did any of you take a moment to consider the child's perspective? Do you think a child feels wonderful when it is crying like in the photos taken by Jill Greenberg?
Some of you discount that there is any injury to the children's feelings since removing candy is not as bad as beating a child.
If you want to reduce corporal punishment, then having sensitivity to hurt feelings helps make worse abuse even less acceptable.
Discounting hurt feelings as injury makes worse abuse more acceptable.
but you cant go to jail for being mean to a kid... so you can yell and put your kids down all you want!! I think ill have kids just so i can be mean to them!!! now theres the problem of finding a prostitute who will give birth!
The photos are beautiful and poignant, and are easier to look at than, say, photos of real child victims of war.
To say that taking candy away from a child for 30 seconds is "child abuse" is asinine.
If my grandson grabs candy without asking I take it away. He cries. He gets over it in three minutes.
Our society has gone insane. The people who are upset about these photos probably shrug their shoulders at the fact that many children truly are suffering, from hunger, war, and poverty.
My neighbor's two year old screams at the top of his lungs constantly for no reason whatsoever. He is precious and precocious and I adore him. His parents are so wonderful and never never punish him.
Kids like to cry and carry on because they do not have the means yet to express themselves any other way . .. and this was very daring but what a powerful message. I THINK IT'S GREAT!
i know! its not gonna affect them in their later life you know. Its just stupid. ITS NOT CHILD ABUSE. I mean it'll "affect" them for like 10 seconds but they'll get over it. ITS ART JUST DEAL WITH IT LOL
it's a nasty way of getting the reaction she wanted, but it's not a big deal in the long run. She's just another obnoxious artist who will be remembered more for her politics than her photos
this is the problem witht the world today. We focus on the little things. What was the photo shoot about? No one is talking about that; end times. The fact that we are doing so many things to the world and ourselves that will make one party extinct in the near future. Why is no one, in all the rave about the pictures mentioning that!?
People are stupid. They should worry about the children being beaten in their homes not kids at a photoshoot crying over a lollipop with their parents standing by and watching it all happen.
I personally think the photos are breathtakingly beautiful.
it's not child abuse or torture. You can't abuse a child by removing candy for 1 minute and giving it back to them. This is a slap in the face of what Child Abuse really is.
art is an expression, through any means, many artists in our age have used models for thier own art/agenda so what is the difference ? if you put aside how these kids made to cry, in the end it is still art, not to say that artists can do ANYTHING in the name of art, theres boundries no doubt.
'child abuse' so ridiculous! on that token, does that mean everytime i child cries bcoz they want a specific toy u shud buy it 4 them, so as not 2 'torment' them. if it wasnt ok, im sure th parents wud hav said no....ughh!
Brilliant. Was drawn to the the photos by the power of the images. Great idea and I agree totally with her Political perspective. Good work Jill !!!
