US debt will be payed back by taxpayers. Any competent investor, American or foreign, considering putting money into the US economy, knows that, and they won't volunteer to paying off this debt. They'll simply take their money and invest some place else.
This bill is 800 Bn reasons not to invest into the US economy. This bill is the equivalent of trillions in investment, just refused, sent to Asia and Europe instead by President Obama. I'll probably just follow it, and get a job there myself.
It's amusing, and a little scary, that as a candidate Obama ran on the idea that the economy was bad because the national debt was so high and now he seems to be trying to double the debt (or more) before he even gets into office.
How so? By voting for a bailout that McCain also agreed with? By wanting to bailout the auto industry because three million jobs are at stake? By planning on a stimulus package that even prominent conservative economists think is necessary?
Neither McCain or Obama are economists and they jumped on the bailout bandwagon from the campaign trail, probably hoping to look decisive and in charge. - Which conservative economists are you referring to? - The auto companies won't disapear if they file bankruptcy, they'll go through restructuring that may solve some of the problems that brought them to this point in the first place. Throwing money at them will just postpone the problem and increase the risk of inflation due to the deficit.
-I never said they were. Let's not forget that Obama has the support of some of the most successful economists in the world, while McCain admitted he didn't know much about the economy. I was simply pointing out that they both supported it, anyway.
- Even if they are able to do that, a lot of jobs would be lost. If they all go under, three million jobs would be lost. That's almost three times the amount of jobs we've lost this entire year.
Also, it is incorrect to say that they are in this position solely because of their bad choices. hey did make mistakes, yet it is mainly due to the poor economic conditions. Over a million jobs have been lost, so fewer people have the money to buy cars, and the credit crises has made it impossible for many of those who can afford cars to buy them. Even Honda and Toyota are down over 30%.
It also isn't a bailout; it's a loan. We've done this before, and they paid us back with interest.
The guy who divorced his wife by fax when she was in a hospital dying of cancer? That Newt? The same guy who was having an affair (and lying about it) while he was pushing for the impeachment of Clinton for the same offense?
Yup, one and the same. He's the most intelligent individual in or around Washington today. Further, his indiscretions don't begin to compare with the stuff we've already dug up on BO (illegal campaign contributions, ties to radicals, socialist leanings, etc) and it didn't seem to keep him from being elected.
Even though it's going to hurt us all, I can't wait for BO to fall flat on his face.
Bring it. I'd love to see how he can explain how his record of deregulation during the 90's sent didn't the economy nearly into a 2nd Great Depression.
Maybe he could run with Sarah Palin as the Dipshit/Scumbag ticket.
Sarah Palin is the abomination. Unless not knowing what the vice president does, basic geography facts, and your running mate's standing on issues is a good thing.
Oh yeah, I forgot. This is the USA. Ignorance is rewarded here.
No, it's not ignorance that's being rewarded - it's failure. The GOP tried to regulate Fannie and Freddie and the Dem.s screamed bloody murder. Now the ones who purposefully got into mortgages they had no business getting into are about to be offered the opportunity to renegotiate their terms... and the banks who lent bad mortgages in the first place are being bailed out - that's rewarding failure.
BTW, you're up past your bedtime again. Get some sleep - you may get smarter.
Wow, another Republican who can parrot Matt Drudge. What a surprise. Is that the admission standard for the GOP now: Ability to parrot simplistic right-wing arguments ad nauseum?
As this crisis becomes worldwide in scope and the amount of the bailout far exceeds the value of defaulted mortgages, do you really think your bullshit Fanny and Freddy CRA argument has any validity? Look up "credit default swaps" and get back to me. That is, unless you're afraid to think for yourself.

The crisis certainly isn't over; however, our economy has returned to growth. When Japan had a similar housing bubble, its economy stagnated for a decade. Although the current administration has not handled the crisis flawlessly, considering how far we've come in such a short time--and the even worse potential situation that we escaped narrowly--I still support their efforts.
There is no such title as "The Office of the President Elect". In fact BO is not even the "President Elect" until the Electorial college reports to the congress in December. You would think that the man who wants to be President would know that??????
If Bush had any respect for America he would fire Cheney, appoint Obama as VP then resign. It is absurd that the POTUS has decided to retire while in office- particularly with two wars and a financial meltdown. Right now we have no president- one who is- that won't do his job, and one who isn't yet- who can't start for 2 months.
Bush would rather spend the last 2 mos pardoning his buds and pushing out last minute deregulation for his corporate buddies in return for big funds for his library.
Arrogant? Obama has been nothing but gracious to the current president. Of course, I know it's hard for Republicans to admit that a Democrat can actually do something right. I guess thinking isn't for everyone.
"I guess thinking isnt for everyone",including yourself. What do Bush,Republicans and Democrats have to do with Obama using a fake arrogant non-Government sponsered "Office of the President Elect"sign?Think.
You should try actually reading my comment. My point was that he has been nothing but gracious to the current president. How is it arrogant to use a "President-elect sign" if you're the fucking president elect? That's like saying it's arrogant for the president to call himself the president.
In the past a President Elect would humbly announce his cabinent members in front of audiences without any podium signs, knowing full well people already knew he was the President Elect.Obama,on the other hand has to have his own generic and unofficial *snicker*"Office of the President Elect"sign*snicker*.I would say that is arrogance or insecurity.
So what? He is the president-elect. The only thing you've succeeded at is proving your immense bias. How is it generic if he is the only person to have done it? And yes, as I said, to remind people that he isn't president yet. He could start taking over, but he isn't.
First of all he doesnt have to be the first person to have an "Office of the President Elect" sign in order for it to be generic;and second he cant start taking over per the United States Constitution.
I take it you have a very black and white world view.
Obama does not officially become president until january 20th. However, he can still assert a huge influence over the government now. The fact is he hasn't done that. I don't understand what you're not getting about that.
You don't listen, do you? Barack obama doesn't have to actually hold any power to control it. Seriously, this is a very basic idea. By your logic, lobbyists and corporations have no control in government, because they don't actually hold any positions in government.
coming in with a bang, eh? how bout a recovery package for me, the real joe six pack. stop giving money to already rich CEOs of banks and investment companies.
That is what they are talking about with the new economic stimulus package and the tax cuts. Obama, unlike Bush, believes in stimulating the economy from the bottom up. This makes sense because that is the way money flows, money flows up hill it doesn't trickle down.
Hopefully this time they won't spend millions of dollars sending out notices that tell you the stimulus package is coming. The only thing they are stimulating there is the US Post Office.
i agree but his little anorexic looking stimulus package will do little to help me in perticular, or many others for that matter. we are in for a great depression (they also call it recession not to scare you). soon, if not already, hundreds will be competing for the same low level job (not jobs, job). God only knows when and where the "civil unrest" will begin.
Yeah, the actual money from the stimulus package won't help you too much, but the theory this bottom up perspective is based on says that every dollar spent on the consumer side has the effect of 4 times that on the economy as a whole. Don't ask me how because I am not an economist, but it can't work much worse than trickle down economics.
There is already the job competition you were talking about. The WAL-MART in my area has even frozen hiring for goodness sakes.
true, obama has the right economic persperctive (i voted for him too) and is going the right direction, but in my opinion assuming a stimulus package that amounts to $3k per family for the next two years will do nothing, yet they hand out billions in bailouts to banks who are not using it for the specific purpose of helping troubled homewoners instead they hoard it. The bailout should have gone directly to the people, the taxpayers, based on their tax contributions for example.
By stimulus package I was referring to the checks they plan to sent out. It didn't do much last time, because so many people used it to pay their credit cards instead of on new spending. I think the same thing will happen this time, but I do support some of the more structural solutions that have been proposed.
As far as big business bail outs go, it is a necessary evil. If even one of the big three goes belly up, the projected job losses for next year are expected to go over 2 million.
I agree with you again, (lmao) BUT the solution is goverment for the people not the banks. The "structural solutions" you mentioned are additional bailouts unfortunately. There is no perfect solution or quick remedy, but we can't keep bailing out companies that will go belly up anyway, like the auto companies. they tried to bail out wall street, yet it lost trillions regardless of the initial 700b bailout. The money needs to go to the people.
The real solution, once the system is stabilized, is the decentralization of the market share. No company should be so big that we can't afford for them to fail. This gives these businesses the power to extort the government in situations like this. How this would work out in respect to international business idk. We will see what happens. I really hope someone much smarter than me can come up with a better plan that I wouldn't even phantom.
a "stabiliztion of the market" is the key solution to start. How we get there is beyond me. But it is blatantly obvious to me that the manner in which the bailouts are distrubuted is flawed. a quick solution is to bail out these big companies, immediately fire the CEOs and top executives who are making millions and hire the right people for much, much less.
Power corrupts and these people have too much power what the common idiot fails to understand is the amount of power these people hold. They think "well we shouldn't bail them out that's socialism" well if it were a small store on the corner. I would agree with but these company's control everything while the no big government republican's have turned a blind eye while they tie a noose around our neck and when they trip we suffer and they say it's our fault for being lazy and shouldn't get help.

Apparently we need more than just a good man, we need a competent man. And apparently you need more than just some empty talking points, you need to back them up with evidence. Or maybe you just need a brain.
Senator Joseph McCarthy was an insane loon back in the 1950's who thought everyone who wasn't a slave of the government was a communist and needed to have there lives ruined. He basically started a witch hunt anyone you didn't like you could point at them call them a communist and McCarthy's boys would take them away just like Bush's goons when it comes to terrorists. I hear he even thought they were hiding under his bed. You should Wiki him.
Yes lets let every thing collapse and who ever is left standing controls everything and who cares what happens to us, in the mean time we should just sit and watch the fireworks as our refrigerators go empty and or houses get taken away.
And how did that so-called "2.5 million new jobs" work out? Two years later unemployment is still near 10%! Democrat lies!
