  • the best authentic asian dance ever seen, the eyes, the fingers each of the body part dance. awesome .

  • If someone played this in reverse would anyone be able to tell? I'm not being snarky--I'm genuinely wondering. I leave for a trip to Ubud in two months. I'm scared shitless, but equally excited. I suppose I should quit youtubing this stuff and save some surprises for my arrival!

  • @jronning81 Oh trust me.. youtube covers hardly half of the great stuff there ;)

  • How beautiful! Speechless at this. Thanks a lot for sharing this beauty.

  • This is splendid! the costume ,the moves and the facial expression are all worth the attention! greetings from the Philippines!

  • @Haksaengnim I'm a Filipina too and I think it's fascinating!

  • @iliveibreathe indeed, it is ,,,,

  • I was watching a television program on BYU TV today about a music major that went to Bali and learned the gamelan (sp?) He actually commissioned one to be made for the college and brought it back to BYU for the students to learn. It was an amazing show. I was quite impressed with the culture. Thank you.

  • this is so beautiful

  • beautiful, im my opinion. im just a boring canadian and i think its so wonderful and amazing

  • My goodness! I've never been to Bali, but I'd love to go there and see this for myself.

I love Indonesian culture. It's so fascinating.

It's sad that my (nearby. I'm Filipina) country doesn't have as much appreciation for its traditional dance as much as you do.

  • @iliveibreathe dear... nice to meet you. im from indonesia. im a javanese dancer. i think filiphina is the best one also but later the world will acknowledge your traditional cultures:). filipina and indonesia is a great couple :)

  • @TheChandramukhi Lovely to meet you too. I don't dance, but I've always been so fascinated by Indonesian (Balinese, especially) dancing. So elegant and graceful.

    Indeed, both cultures are lovely!

  • Simply Gorgeous!!!!

    =D

  • @goddessveee28,

what message does the balainese music have, :P have a project in school

  • @FE33AR1

From what I know, Balinese dances also carry religious significance. The rest, you can go search :)

  • @Chichiri520 yes every dance also has its own story usually about Hindu legends

  • i agree we have just returned from bali.. my sisters wedding was incredible its also here on you tube....the people of bali are such wonderful, kind friendly people. Iwant to go back now..lol right now..lol.. the dancers are amazing... suksamar

  • love her eyes and the head movements

    the filming annoys me though

is there a story being told in this dance??

  • this where nicki ninaj be getin her moves from

  • The sounds of gamelan in Bali is so relaxing. :)

  • It's interesting to watch the differences between the dances that call for one dancer and those that call for more. Great video! Check out mine too if you have the chance.

  • Glad I found this video, finding and learning different cultures from around this planet is exciting.

  • The more i like are they eyes !

  • @angelhan: the dance above called Tari Legong Jobog. it's a bali's traditional dance. that dance tells about the story of the battle between two great monkeys

  • somebody answer!!!!!!!!

  • Cokorda Raka Swastika is my uncle. Proud to be Balinese

  • what kind of dance is this like tari legong or pendet???????

  • Beautiful dancing! And I just love that 'head wobble' thing they do =)

  • I remember this place, so beautiful the dance.

    Their expressions are amazing

  • what is the name of this dance??

  • Thanks for posting this! Saw this show in Ubud!!

  • I want to go to Bali....!!!! I like that culture...

  • magical,amazing,beautiful!

  • So many movements at the same time. It is impressive how they can coordinate it all with the music. If you look carefully, you can see her fingers moving while her head is shaking... and the eyes, so expressive...! Everything is just perfect. ˆ-ˆ

  • i love this i would so like to learn this dance

  • indonesian culture is beautiful. her dance plus the music is mesmerizing, almost like a trance-like state. what is the name of the instrument that is making the main steel/metal like sound? such a unique and curious sound.

  • @serpico89 I believe it is the Gamelan... I'm pretty sure.

  • @RoRoNeko alamark!! i learned that means "suprised" in indonesian ♥ :) thank you!!

  • how i long to go back there again,

even though i'm half indonesian, it is like i'm being called over to that place...

i want to go back to Bali

  • I have never seen this type of costume before. It is beautiful!

  • This is an amazing dance and music. It`s so special.

thanks for share your art with us!

  • Beautiful! Thank you for this. I find the dancer's left hand utterly mesmerising. It might interest you to know that the avant-garde composer John Cage was inspired by Gamelan music. I agree that Indonesia has a rich cultural constellation, rich and varied and of crucial importance. It's a shame it is so unduly obscure.

  • I'm learning Balinese dance right now, and Legong is the hardest to follow. It's intricate, rigorous. But the fatigue wont beat me to frustation cause every movements makes me feel like a an elegant lady.

And btw, those fan movements really looked like the flapping of a butterflies.

  • o wanna see the performance again.... miz Bali so much ><

  • tarianya bagus, dancers cantik2. Liat ini bikin ku pengen travel ke Bali.

  • Im proud 2 be Indonesian! :D

    theyr so cool!

  • The dance and the dancers are so beautiful. They use every part of their body and I love the face expression especially their eyes. I'm Thai by the way and used to do traditional Thai dance.

  • @ilovenoy their moving eyes calls "nyeledet" in bali language.

  • @ilovenoy hi, great peace from indonesia. i'm indonesian dancer too :) thanks for loving indoneisan dance. we have same cultures and dances, and food:)

  • Just watching this makes me miss Ubud. I am lucky enough that my travels have taken me there many times in my life, and I have made a lot of life-long friends amongst the Balinese people. Thank you for posting this and showing such an appreciation for a place so close to my heart.

  • es una danza muy exotica, es incalculable lo grande que es la diversidad cultural de los humanos, en todos sus aspectos. Y que bellas esas asiáticas, les pediría que no se saquen el maquillado y las atiendo toda la noche.

  • When I was in Bali in 1994, I visited a show in Ubud performed by the local dance college. The kids were just amazing. I watch this video and can't help to think that one of these beautiful ladies might have been one of the girls I saw that year.

    Thanks

though you shouldn't have zoomed so much, because now we can't see the dance as a whole. I know one focuses automatically on the face of performers, but this is a dance. they rest of the body should be seen, too ;D

  • This is the most wonderful clip of wonderful dancers I have seen. Thanks to worldviewz for this totally divine and heart warming clip. I watch this video all the time. I love it love it love it.

I am totally shocked to read some comments here, criticizing and down grading such an art and devotion. I think those guys to shut up.Some people who don't have sense of smell can't tell the differnce between perfume and fart!

  • this dance is called legong jobog.

  • Haunting, enchanting and mesmerising.

  • They're dancing angels

  • I couldn't agree more!

  • cool .... ,

hope you enjoy the cultures and my country overall, the food too, don't forget!

    All the best,

    ajiek

  • If moonlight silvering the surface of a lake had a sound, it would sound like the gamelan music in this video.

  • Nice video, it makes me remember the last time I was there. Bali has a very unique culture and art than any other. I wish I can go back there soon.

  • Thank you for your gratitude!

    I could not agree more...

There are beautiful people in every culture and my joy is to acknowledge this truth so that we may have more gratitude for one another.

    All the best

  • This is really beautiful. I've been fascinated by Bali for years, and I wish I could go there. Thanks for uploading this lovely video! It was nice of the people to let you take it. :)

  • do they have a name for the effect of sidling their heads side to side like they're on a horizontal rail?

It's a bit unnerving but fascinating to watch

  • It's called "enggotan".

  • its great that there are videos of balinese dance on youtube i visited bali about 2 years ago and i miss it very much so its nice to have a reminder

  • Thanks I feel the same way. I am glad you appreciate their art form. They are truly masters of their art.

  • Very beautiful and exotic to watch, their eyes are very expressive.

  • i don't want to disrespect any of you folks who love & are awed by this type of dance, but I guess it seems boring to me... Sorry. I want to like it.

  • WOW!! this is so amazing!! i am in the 7th grade and i saw this type of dance for literally 5 seconds in a video about Balli, i was so captivated by this dance that as soon as i came home i went and reasearched it, i think the percisenesss of the eye movemens and fingers and feet are!! this is an awsome example of true dedacation!! i will keep looking at these video, but as far as i can tell, this is the BEST type of dance i have yet to ever see!!

  • This dance is not quite as 'sharp' as I remember at Toyabunka - the eye movements and shoulder moves are not pronounced enough. The dances at Toyabunka were descriptive, and choreographed to tell original stories related to the lake. This dance is good, but it seems aimed at a tourist audience. Maybe life has changed since the 70s. I sound bad to be critical, and I haven't a nasty bone in my body, but the dancers need some stricter coaching to tighten up their eye, hand and shoulder movements.

  • sasmanwayne, I agree with you, maybe the purpose of the dance had changed just to please the tourists instead of religious rituals. But maybe she was just tired after dancing the same dance night after night :-)

  • When I lived in Bali in the 70s there was an excellent school of dance at Toyabunka on Danau Batur. Regretably when Sutan Takdir Ali Sabana died it died with him because the funding disappeared. But little kids as young as 5 would dance. The principle female dancer married a public servant from Sumatra. Last I heard they had 3 kids. The principle male loved her, and when she married he died of a broken heart (which medically translates as chronic depression) God I miss Bali - I'm in Prague now.

  • Wow, I cannot believe I'd never really looked into this kind of dance before, it's freaking amazing. I love how you can watch any little detail, even their fingers, and it's still very much a part of the dance. their concentration and skill in incorporating every part of their body and making it all work together like that is just mind blowing. I'm scared of how I would react if I saw it in person given how excited and awed I am by a youtube video of it.

  • You got it!

They are taught from the time they are a small child and art as well as spirituality are incorporated into everyday life. that is how they can perform such intricate movements.

  • TamRiver you are a great arts appreciator. I am Balinese and playing gamelan. I often tell people that if we are listening to gamelan record we'll feel happiness, when we watch it live, we'll be in bliss, and if we are playing it, I don't know how to say it, merge in God? I meet the dancer at the left (focused in the later part of the video) and conversed with her a few times, I feel that she has a very beautiful character as well.

  • yes great dance, great dancers. im also a dancer. dancing is one of my passions.i'd like to share my dance home videos. they r nothing compared to this :)

i ve been to Bali many times. i know many dances from all over indonesia. i love indonesia traditional dance. and i will keep exploring, learning etc
