  • That is rather funny how ignorant you all are "jersey accent" is accent belonging to jersey, as in jersey the channel island a part of the British isles you know the place new jersey is named after, So FFS

  • boooooringggg....

  • Here in union city, nj (home of the latinos) have no jersey accent. It all depend what spanish countries your parents from. Some people talk with a mexican accent, some with a puerto rican. Thank God I don't have a spanish accent =D

  • I live in the people's republic of South Jersey. We don't have any accents. It's those other motherfuckers who cross the bridges that have the accents. One more thing to remember is that it is free to enter South Jersey but you have to pay to get out.

  • @chairde Some people in south jersey got the philly accent sometime.

  • @jm9295 You're right. Myself and most of the people I know moved from Philly to South Jersey.

  • There is no one accent in the state. Somebody from Somerville talks one way and somebody from Cherry Hill will sound another.

  • i was born in london england, but i live in jersey, i picked up on the accent very quickly.

  • I think the closer one lives to NYC, the more pronounced a Jersey accent is. After all, a Jersey accent is just some type of mutated NY accent. Although, the Jersey accent really isn't that prevalent; hell, I once had someone think that I was from California when I've lived in Jersey all my life. lol

  • Im born, raised and live in the Bronx and the whole "joisy'" thing is a Ny thing. The original Ny accent---turning "er" to "oi". Like turning Purse into Poise but its not as exaggerated as the stereotypes try to make it out to be. The "oi' sound is more subtle. It has nothing to do with the Jersey accent. A few things we have in common (like tawk) but our dialects are different. Most ppl that arent from this area think we speak the same.

  • its NEW JERSEY not jersey

  • the only morons who say joisey are people from other lame ass states, who are just hating on us, and people from staten island...that's the way THEY talk not us

  • Us blacks in Jersey jus say it like Jerzee, not no fukin Joisey B. Dat shit sounds mad dumb.

  • who ever says JOYSEY is a fuckin homo im from nj n i never fuckin herd ne1 from nj say it like that

  • i am from oregon ndyal are thought to say joisey

  • haha you have an adorable accent, are you from south jersey? it's weird how different north and south sound like. i'm from north-east jersey well grew up here at least, i feel like up north we don't exactly have much on an accent

  • I don't know where the "Joisey" thing came from. It's more like someone with an old Brooklyn accent trying to say Jersey. I'm from central NJ and never heard anyone say that.

The thing about NJ is that if you're closer to NY you pick that accent up a little, and the same goes for people in South Jersey who are close to Philly.

Otherwise, we do the "glottal stop" on some middle T's as in "kitten" and "fountain", some T's sound like D's as it "water," and we do compress or slur some words.

  • Really you never heard that I live right in central Somerville area and i have heard that

  • @MrsSimplyWicked i live there too

  • @MillionthUsername yea we usually miss the t's

  • NEW Jersey, Not Jersey - A Jersey accent resembles white African or Australian, no American!

  • NOBODY in Jersey calls it New Jersey,

  • @XBelle89x Well I was looking for Jersey accent not New Jersey accent

  • @Saiaton

Australian is Australian- it's it's own accent! Get your facts straight.

  • @Saiaton

Seriously Bro. Born and Raised in JERSEY.

  • @Saiaton Nope, A Jersey accent resembles people who live in Jersey. and no im not talking about New Jersey.

  • im from Newark and i say cwafee, twalk, cwall, dwag all that stuff i pronounce different and i guess its just what part of jersey you from. Also most of my family is from staten island so they have that accent going on and sometimes it might come out when i talk, but yea i STILL dont say joisey and it frikin pisses me off when people say that cause noone ever says that. its annoying when people do that shit.

  • We never say "joisey" who fuck came up with that?!! Even though I live in VA right now, all my life, I've always pronouced my home state "new JERsey"

  • I KNOW RIGHT

  • Can't stand that fucking accent.

The most ignorant individuals must live in New "Joisy" to come up with that accent.

Give the US a bad name.

    Guidos

  • In NJ we dont say Joisy , we might say cawfee, or youz instead of (you two or all you or yall)! Whats worse than saying ya'll,?"butchery" Note people from BK,LI etc have no right to talk shit about NJ having an accent!

  • I'm from Monmouth County, New Jersey and we most definetely do not say "joisey", except for some people who are obviously out-of-staters.

  • I'm from Monmouth (Central Jersey). When you get really southwest, you do see Philly influence, and same with northeast and NYC.

People think it's "joisey", when people really say "Jurzzee".

To me, a Jersey accent = Strong vowel pronunciation (cawfee), the shortenning of words (Marlboro = Marawl-bo-rough becomes Malbro), speaking very quickly ("Hello" becomes "Hlo") and downplaying the letter T(kitten becomes kidden).

  • Marlboro? I've been there before ;)

  • @stickinup2188 One town away. Haha.

  • did ya eat yet? naw, you?

  • Jersey accent is not a new york accent! And we don't say joisey! If you are from jersey you should be able to understand what I'm saying. It's a little hard cuz it needs to be said not written but if you know it your from jersey. reply what you think it is!

    jeet yet? nah jew?

  • im from middlesex in jersey and i say umm "tawk", "cawfee", "dawg", "toime" but that is it... really not a big accent lol.

but my neighbor has like the worst accent ever... soo bad. she says "joyzee" and "gymee-astics" instead of gymnastics. every time i hear it i crack up. idkk where she got it from haha

  • @r0ckandy gymee-astics? I think your neighbor is retarted

  • If I had to guess, I'd say East-Central Jersey, not too far north or too far south. Am I anywhere close to correct? xD

  • I hate how everyone thinks the New Jersey accent is the New York accent. I've been going to NJ (from Staten Island) all my life have relatives there and they sound more like this girl. "New Joisy" my ass.

  • totally agree..i jus moved to boston/massachusetts a couple years ago and im from medford NJ....and they always say "new joisey" all i can say to the massholes are "fuck u" cuz we speak dont talk like thatttt

  • The connecticut accent is where we dont prounounce T's right we say....Importan'h or far'h no T's or Ar"h

  • I'm from south jersey and I say cawfee..but I don't say tawk. I guess it's different everywhere but in south jersey noone talks like they're from ny.

  • Anyone from Jeerzi, knows we don't have a fucking stupid long island accent, so fuck off.. posers!

  • Guys, get it straight.

New Jersey people don't pronounce their T's.

    That's basically it.

  • Exactly! I don't say 'warter', it comes out more like... 'wader'

But i don't say 'tawk' either. I say 'tok'.

  • actually u mean wooder/wooda...its the philly accent..i speak it

  • no, surprisingly...

there's a distinct aah sound. Like the doctor makes you say? A long 'a'. But there's the d in there too...

  • thats true actually. its not bad though, like if you hear a boston accent, they dont say r's. we just kinda speak fast

  • Don't pronounce "Ts"? What are you talking about? So basically you're saying a word like "talk" would sound like "alk" if you were to say it?

  • Don't be ignorant. Did you /watch/ the video?

Do you think Massachusetts people say aisin instead of Raisin? No.

  • Maybe you should fully explain your statements instead of just assuming people know what you're talking about. Ass.

  • @CheechMarin4TW I believe they mean Ts in the middle of the word. But all Ts are generally downplayed with little emphasis.

  • The Jersey accent is awesome! Try being from the south...

  • well i say "cwoffe" and "new joysee" and "dwag" and "duaghda"

  • people we pronoune "jersey" like "Jerzee" not "JOYSEE". At least where I live in New Jersey

  • @reikanobutushi11 mee too

  • @reikanobutushi11 same with where i live in NJ, r u north south or central?

  • say water :)

  • its warter

  • JERSEY!

  • ITS "NOO JOYSEY"

  • no...it's not.

  • it IS jersey, not jowsey..lol

  • i do the cawfee and tawk but cos my dad is always in the bronx so he has the accent and i picked some of it up. lived in jersey all my life. never said joizey. it pisses me off when people do. we just emphasize our r's and have terrible vowels. and the girls here whine too much

  • Lawnside NJ Stand up!

  • ok i live in new jersey..... people from new jersey do not have a big accent. if they do they probably live up north and they probably pick up the new york accent. people really need to shut the f up about new jersey because it in my mind is the best state in the freakin us!

  • If your from north jersey you sound like your from NY. If your from south jersey you sound like your from Philly but Jersey doesn't have a accent of our own

  • lol i'm from like, the Middle of Jersey.. but a little more to the north.

    Union County (:

and i live in this really ghetto place(lol) and people here don't have accents. they speak rather..... ghetto :P

the only thing is SOMEtimes (rarely) i'll hear a "cawfee" or "hold awn"

    but that's it really :P

people just sort of exaggerate New Jersey's accent as if it's really this big deal.

  • I live in Union county too! right next two blocks from the ghetto! this is bullshit! this girl in this vid says she is from NJ. She is making a fucking fool of herself, she is not a true NJ person. Cuz anyone from NJ knows this isn't how we talk

  • OMG i live IN the ghetto(and hate it). xD

and besides, the other day I was watching Nanny 911(wow yeah i know) and these parents from staten island.. OH my gosh their ACCENTS were SO strong lol. i pretty much laughed throughout the show.

the girl in this video sounds more like them.

  • wait in union county, do you live elizibeth? cuz thats like the ghettoest part of union county

  • yes.

  • nice i live in Roselle Park, 2 blocks from elizabeth

  • you said it right, north Jersey we have an accent close to NY style, and south Jersey more like Philly, middle jerz is closer to south jerz style....

  • I don't think ANYONE from Jersey has said it "Joisey" idk where that came from.

  • probably someone from staten island or something. but, i won't deny that people from new jersey don't have an accent.

my mother and i were at an airport in florida one day, and this guy was like "You two are from New Jersey, right? I can tell!"

    but i must admit

people from floirda talk differently to me too xD

  • i know!!! ny ppl say that....

  • Dan. I haf a def ahsen becausz um def. Ko figuhl. (Dang. I have a deaf accent because I'm deaf. Go figure.)

  • i really enjoyed looking at your rug the whole time. thx great!!! video...syke

  • maybe it's because i'm from Jersey, but other than that cawfee and tawk, I have no idea what Jersey accent is. We say "yo" a lot though.

  • yeaa nj is like ny's cousin...very close...or u can say bro or something...very close states...nj is smaller and has many accents...

  • damn i wish i had a jersey accent it sounds so kool!! :D im from Alberta...(Canada) and i've got sort of a western accent and it sounds kinda gay sometimes

  • You know I never knew anyone who thinks Jersey accent is cool, but thanks =)

  • ...fish dont taste the same without that "nuclear power plant" growth...

  • I lived in Jersey all my life, and now im in the butt crack of Forida for the past four years.(No, I'm not retired, I'm only 36)People ask me all the time to this day, "where you from,New York?" I'd say, "No, Jersey". They'd say, "same thing." I dont care I'm proud. At least I dont sound like a one-tooth'ed hick..

  • idk wut accent i got nd idk where it comes comes frum! ppl say i sound like a hill billy ma bf sez i sound like a grl frum england with a boston accent. so like wtf? i speak russian spanish hawaiian french nd english mostly english since i live in merlin{maryland u.s.a} but u kno iam used 2 b mocked by how i talk now. iam used 2 it!

  • im from the dirty jerz too... lived there all my life till a couple months ago nd awl i get is ppl talkin bout how i talk... tawlk cawfee dawg... idk accents happen but i love when ppl try nd impersonate me... they just dont got it... stay up nj..

  • Hate it when people try using my Jersey accent

  • i live in new jersey. i think people are just jealous of us because no one says cawfee or joizey, or tawlk. or anything like that. that's like a statin island accent! not jersey. so can everyone like stop messing with us.

    us jersey girls are tough.

  • youre right about the joisy part but i hear people say cawfee and tawk all the time. judging by your username im guessing your probably not from north jersey so that why you dont hear it

  • yes im from south jersey, and its only on certain words like dog and walk, but its not that powerful.

  • With a name like "ocean avenue" i would take it you're from South Jersey? I'm from North Jersey, and me and everyone I know DOES say coffee like "cawfee", and talk like "tawlk". "Joizey" though is a complete myth and nobody says that.

So, if you're from South Jersey I can see why you don't talk like that, however, don't get it twisted...us North Jersey folks do talk like that, not just Staten Island.
