Though I don't like that he turned Montoya directly into the wall, I do admire Gilliland for standing up for himself. He didn't like the way Montoya had been banging on his back bumper, so he retaliated. Since then, he and Montoya haven't had any on-track problems, so I guess this dangerous method paid off as far as not messing w/ Gilliland.
That's dirty. That's like a safety rule drivers have with each other. As a driver and to your fellow competitors you never get into their right rear quarter panel especially at a fast racetrack. It's one thing to spin someone out by getting into their left rear but when you do it on purpose and hit someone in the right rear that's dirty. Juan Montoya will spin someone out on purpose but he's never spun someone out on purpose by getting into there right rear he knows better
JPM had it coming. He's been pissing people off in the series since day 1. @RCVAthetanker, I agree. David Gilliland is a piece of shit. The Worst NASCAR driver of all time. How he made it into NASCAR, I have no clue. All Gilliland does is wreck other cars, give himself crappy finishes, etc on a damn race track all day, he is horrible.
montoya has now been the victim of an idiot wrecking him for payback twice, here, and tony stewart at homestead. if i were montoya, I would have knocked out gilliland
You guys are all on the wrong side! That was not only awesome but long overdue. David Gilliland got high fives and tons of respect in the garage for that and I for one applaud David Gilliland and only wish this would've taught Juan Buttlick a lesson. Good work David Gilliland!
@snowraceplay Gilliland is a "never was;"a dumb redneck with no class. He never had one percent of Juan's talent. Pulling stunts like this is the only way he can draw attention to himself since he's always at the back of the pack. Last year he finished about dead last in points and it looks like he's in for a repeat performance this year. Gilliland wouldn't last one lap at Monaco, where JPM has won.
David Gilliland is a dumbass. He did this stupid shit to Montoya. Not only that, he also caused that stupid wreck at Dover in 08. I agree, he doesn't belong in NASCAR. He sucks. NASCAR should have suspended his ass or give him a very big fine
This crap that David Gilliland did to Montoya made me hate him. I agree. He is the world's worst driver in NASCAR. I don't know why Yates Racing Signed him. GILLILAND SUCKS!!!!!

wtf field filllers are drivers that don't make a difference on the deciding factor of a race and just there to make sure there are 43 cars. Thats what David Gilliand is.
No, that's what most of the go-or-go-homers do. Besides, a 2nd-place finish at Infineon proved you wrong. Bad luck has kept Gilliland from getting a lot of good finishes.
1 2nd place. And he got lucky. Harvick spun himself Stewart , Mcmurray thats how he got 2nd. How many top fives does he have? 2 how many top tens? 4. Hes pretty much done nothing in nascar. He lucked his way into cup by winning that nationwide race.

Not true just because hes not outside the top 35 don't mean hes really good. Look whos outside the top 35 Tony Stewart and Clint Bowyer thanks to having new rides (Clint still with rcr just with the 33 now)
Clint Bowyer's 33 only made two starts in 2008, so of course he's out of the top 35. As for Tony Stewart, his 14 took the owner points from the 70 from 2008, which was out of the top 35.

I am very Proud of Juan, he has machured greatly, if it was last year or back in F1 days, he would have been fined for his reaction. But Juan has [roven that in the right atmosphere, he can be classy. Good Job Juan. Kotos. (i cant spell)
JPM shud have beaten the fuck out of gilliland.NASCAR won't do anything but fine him when they shud kick his ass out of nascar all he does is wreck people and one day he's gonna hurt someone or worse.kick his ass out of nascar or let him get that punk ass whooped.

He wasn't mad because he knew he had it coming...A long time coming!I think he was suprised it took anyone that long to grow a pair and do what needed to be done. Go DAVID!
Okay, I openly admit that I am not a knowledgeable race car driver. So, what I am about to write is probably very stupid. It seems that everyone is in agreement that Gilliland spun out JPM.I look at the video (with my admittedly untrained and bia eyeballs)and I don't see where Gilliland is at fault. It looks to me that JPM came up the track and crossed in front of Gilliland's established line. Can somebody explain technically why this wreck was caused by Gilliland and not by Montoya? Thanks
umm dude look at the lines of the lanes on the track.... JPM stayed in his lane- he moved through half a line in a little part of the backstretch. Gilliland was on the top and then he was all the way down into JPM's lane into his car! come on man! don't mell me that was Montoya's fault! if u do, then u must be blind!
I am simply asking for a technical (not emotional) ressponse. Your response does not match the video. JPM's car clearly came from the bottom of the racetrack up the track. You say JPM stayed in his lane. And you are calling me blind?
Here's a clue. The guys you hear talking on the TV, they're called "Commentators". Typically, all sports hire former Professionals in their particular sport to give their opinions as the events unfold. Here's a couple hints...
"looked like it could have been a little payback"
"he'll "gilliland", be in the truck after this race"
I will admit that that was a stupid move by Gilliland, but Juan Montoya had no right to try to wreck him twice. Juan needs to learn to give other drivers room. Snowraceplay, I'm not mad at him. Orangespaghetti, you're delusional. Get a life.
I can't say that I liked what Gilliland did, but Juan must have been REALLY been annoying. Hes known for getting on people's nerves, and I guess he really pushed it.

What? Why is everyone so mad at David Gilliland? All he did was wreck the biggest asshole in the world. You should be thanking him for having the balls to do what everyone in the garage wishes they could do. Go David. (But next time, don't do it at 170. That was crazy!
Come on Gilliand your a good guy, but that was a boneheaded not to mention dangerous move. I also wouldnt be surprised if Gilliand wouldnt be coming out hear to Phoenix next weekend. Personally I wonder if Jamie McMurray's luck has rubbed off onto Juan
1:14 - i called that reckless driving to spin right towards the wall at 170 mph... people that goes at 190 mph=dangerous!!! would knock someone out in concussion
They should park Gilliland for the rest of the year, and about 6 races into next year, i will be very suprised if he even has a ride next week for that crap he pulled.
Especially for an organization looking for sponsors. If I were a sponsor, lets say sometime later in 2009 looking to get into NASCAR and I see this, there is no way in the world I will put my logo with a driver like that, not to mention he doesn't run well when he doesn't have problems. Doug Yates needs to think about that.
I'm a believer that rubbin is racin but i just dont agree with putting a guy in the wall when he gives you a little love tap to let you know he's there
woo look at the 5 car slip thru there! man gilliland handled that situation WAY the wrong way. Montoya barely even touched him, and he turns him HEADFIRST into the wall going 170 mph, thats dangerous! he shud be given a hefty fine, and possibly even suspended!

So I see my comment got erased, but look at how many times Montoya has wrecked someone on purpose, and has never been parked. What Gilliland did was wrong, but still, the next time jackass Montoya takes someone out on purpose like he has the many times before, his ass should be parked also. Yes David should be fined, because that could of killed someone
Ok, so one time? Out of how many times? I dunno just NASCAR needs to do something about their rules on people taking people out, and stick to em. I didn't watch the New Hampshire race, so you found one race, thanks for finding that for us.
I'm a 100% racing fan, and i can tell you that Juan (as a rookie) hit some people, but you have to see that he just came from driving 1334 lbs cars to drive a 3820 lbs, at high speeds you feel the difference, if you see all the wrecks but 1 that he got with other people were mistakes that every rookie does in any kind of racing series.
This season Juan has drive more like a NASCAR drive than a rookie open wheeler, and Kyle Bush deserve to be hited by Juan in NH
this was totally uncalled for i mean seriously. and a comment made by someone from a chatroom that said gilligand should get the "good hands move of the race" was also mean and uncalled for, although it was a little funny but still mean. although montoya has had his share in mishaps he never went that far. bad move on gilligands part.
Because he won one Nationwide race and everyone thinks he's such a big shot. He never should have been hired to drive the #38 car, as he has done absolutely nothing in that ride other than tear the cars up.
If I were Doug Yates, I'd be looking for another driver next season.
neither of them have had that great a season as far as top 5 or 10s go and Montoya is 25th in standing David Gilliland is 27th neither one is doing much
David Gilliland has 8 DNFs. DNFs Montoya has 9.
and its nascar tempers are gonna flare. it doesnt make gilliland any less of a driver with the level of competition this year its hard to get a solid top 10.
Montoya has one win but at a road course and hes road course expert aces and gilliland has finished 2nd on a road course this year
At least when Montoya intentionally wrecked Kyle Busch, 1) it was under caution and not at speed, and 2) he had the balls to come right out and say he wrecked him--none of this "misjudged" crap.
man i know david was in a tough spot with his interview later on but damnit dude fess up, we all know you did it on purpose. it was blatently obvious. im glad nascar parked him. that move on juan really pissed me off and its a shame, because poor montoya has been running excellent as of late and shit like this shouldnt happen, im very dissapointed in david. hes a good driver and a great talent but thats just uncalled for.
That was completely uncalled for..Montoya had a great car and that Jackass decided to wreck him i hope he does a Scott Riggs soon. Whatever "Respect" i had for David Is now ALL LOST!!.
after this, David Gilliland said he misjudged it, well if you misjudge it that much, you shouldnt be racing in the Spring Cup Series. like gadgefan48, i have lost a lot of respect for David.
That was a bad move by Gilliland... and again i feel bad for JPM.. David will probably not have a ride after this.. when you wreck someone you dont make it that obvious.. at least do it it the turn..

haha Juan Pablo is a dumbass, he got into David first. yes it looks intentional, but how many times has Juan Pablo intentionally spun people. Just some payback

Go DAVID!
snowraceplay 3 years ago
Wtf are you talking about? Sure Montoya has made his mistakes, but nothing like this bullshit!
finlandia420 3 years ago 3
Okay, I openly admit that I am not a knowledgeable race car driver. So, what I am about to write is probably very stupid. It seems that everyone is in agreement that Gilliland spun out JPM.I look at the video (with my admittedly untrained and bia eyeballs)and I don't see where Gilliland is at fault. It looks to me that JPM came up the track and crossed in front of Gilliland's established line. Can somebody explain technically why this wreck was caused by Gilliland and not by Montoya? Thanks
sygazelle 3 years ago
umm dude look at the lines of the lanes on the track.... JPM stayed in his lane- he moved through half a line in a little part of the backstretch. Gilliland was on the top and then he was all the way down into JPM's lane into his car! come on man! don't mell me that was Montoya's fault! if u do, then u must be blind!
shockermonster 3 years ago
I know! You could even see Gillamand's tires turn!
RunerRacerPeniguin5 3 years ago
I am simply asking for a technical (not emotional) ressponse. Your response does not match the video. JPM's car clearly came from the bottom of the racetrack up the track. You say JPM stayed in his lane. And you are calling me blind?
sygazelle 3 years ago
Nothing "technical" about it - just obvious.
"that's a hard lick for Montoya"
"this is not where you want to be doing this"
RandomWalkTheory 3 years ago
I will admit that that was a stupid move by Gilliland, but Juan Montoya had no right to try to wreck him twice. Juan needs to learn to give other drivers room. Snowraceplay, I'm not mad at him. Orangespaghetti, you're delusional. Get a life.
sporgie84 3 years ago
I can't say that I liked what Gilliland did, but Juan must have been REALLY been annoying. Hes known for getting on people's nerves, and I guess he really pushed it.

i started having respect for monytoya after the new hamshier accident when he said yea i wrecked kyle bush

Ok, after reviewing the video about 10 more times, you guys are right. I am sorry, for judging at first
sprintcarchamp 3 years ago
Gilliland thinks he can put himself in the role of Russ Wheeler :)..
He should have been parked for atleast one race after this one...
Erikvs82 3 years ago 2
Skippperrrrr, Professor, Ginger, Marianne, Mr./Mrs. Howell could not defend Gilligan. That move was too dangerous.
Let's not forget The Fabulous Harold Heckuba!!

What? Why is everyone so mad at David Gilliland? All he did was wreck the biggest asshole in the world. You should be thanking him for having the balls to do what everyone in the garage wishes they could do. Go David. (But next time, don't do it at 170. That was crazy!
snowraceplay 3 years ago
Come on Gilliand your a good guy, but that was a boneheaded not to mention dangerous move. I also wouldnt be surprised if Gilliand wouldnt be coming out hear to Phoenix next weekend. Personally I wonder if Jamie McMurray's luck has rubbed off onto Juan
3fan4eva 3 years ago
1:14 - i called that reckless driving to spin right towards the wall at 170 mph... people that goes at 190 mph=dangerous!!! would knock someone out in concussion
Brett140 3 years ago
They should park Gilliland for the rest of the year, and about 6 races into next year, i will be very suprised if he even has a ride next week for that crap he pulled.
WWENASCARFAN 3 years ago 2
I wish but NASCAR said they have never had promblems with Gilliland and he will get no penatlies hmmm....

David Gilliland is a piece of shit for that move and can rot in hell...totally uncalled for! They should suspend his ass.
montanaholbrook16 3 years ago 2
woo look at the 5 car slip thru there! man gilliland handled that situation WAY the wrong way. Montoya barely even touched him, and he turns him HEADFIRST into the wall going 170 mph, thats dangerous! he shud be given a hefty fine, and possibly even suspended!
RoudyBusch18 3 years ago 4
why did gilliland do that,he should touch doors to say why did you did that, but he did the wrong thing what he did

So I see my comment got erased, but look at how many times Montoya has wrecked someone on purpose, and has never been parked. What Gilliland did was wrong, but still, the next time jackass Montoya takes someone out on purpose like he has the many times before, his ass should be parked also. Yes David should be fined, because that could of killed someone
sprintcarchamp 3 years ago
> "look at how many times Montoya has wrecked someone on purpose, and has never been parked"
I call bullshit.
Montoya was parked at New Hampshire.
AndyMarquisLIVE 3 years ago
Ok, so one time? Out of how many times? I dunno just NASCAR needs to do something about their rules on people taking people out, and stick to em. I didn't watch the New Hampshire race, so you found one race, thanks for finding that for us.
sprintcarchamp 3 years ago
I'm a 100% racing fan, and i can tell you that Juan (as a rookie) hit some people, but you have to see that he just came from driving 1334 lbs cars to drive a 3820 lbs, at high speeds you feel the difference, if you see all the wrecks but 1 that he got with other people were mistakes that every rookie does in any kind of racing series.
This season Juan has drive more like a NASCAR drive than a rookie open wheeler, and Kyle Bush deserve to be hited by Juan in NH
sschlappkohl 3 years ago 4
correct, only onces for montoya
Brett140 3 years ago
this was totally uncalled for i mean seriously. and a comment made by someone from a chatroom that said gilligand should get the "good hands move of the race" was also mean and uncalled for, although it was a little funny but still mean. although montoya has had his share in mishaps he never went that far. bad move on gilligands part.

Gilliland - - Grow up, seriously!

i dont like montoya at all, but what david gilliland did there was a dick thing to do

gilliland is an idiot and shouldn't be on a cup car. i wonder why Yates chose him.
emotato12 3 years ago 2
lol.
xEKALBx 3 years ago 2
Because he won one Nationwide race and everyone thinks he's such a big shot. He never should have been hired to drive the #38 car, as he has done absolutely nothing in that ride other than tear the cars up.
If I were Doug Yates, I'd be looking for another driver next season.
NAVGFan 3 years ago
neither of them have had that great a season as far as top 5 or 10s go and Montoya is 25th in standing David Gilliland is 27th neither one is doing much
David Gilliland has 8 DNFs. DNFs Montoya has 9.
and its nascar tempers are gonna flare. it doesnt make gilliland any less of a driver with the level of competition this year its hard to get a solid top 10.
Montoya has one win but at a road course and hes road course expert aces and gilliland has finished 2nd on a road course this year
ghettobird14 3 years ago
shit like that can kill someone
Surrender95 3 years ago 2
yeah
xEKALBx 3 years ago
At least when Montoya intentionally wrecked Kyle Busch, 1) it was under caution and not at speed, and 2) he had the balls to come right out and say he wrecked him--none of this "misjudged" crap.
aviazn 3 years ago 4
man i know david was in a tough spot with his interview later on but damnit dude fess up, we all know you did it on purpose. it was blatently obvious. im glad nascar parked him. that move on juan really pissed me off and its a shame, because poor montoya has been running excellent as of late and shit like this shouldnt happen, im very dissapointed in david. hes a good driver and a great talent but thats just uncalled for.
jrfan07 3 years ago
That was completely uncalled for..Montoya had a great car and that Jackass decided to wreck him i hope he does a Scott Riggs soon. Whatever "Respect" i had for David Is now ALL LOST!!.
DatSoulghaMan 3 years ago
after this, David Gilliland said he misjudged it, well if you misjudge it that much, you shouldnt be racing in the Spring Cup Series. like gadgefan48, i have lost a lot of respect for David.
dwinter66 3 years ago 2
That was a bad move by Gilliland... and again i feel bad for JPM.. David will probably not have a ride after this.. when you wreck someone you dont make it that obvious.. at least do it it the turn..
SHJ1011 3 years ago 2
I have lost all respect for David Gilliland. I hope NASCAR parks his butt for Phoenix, we don't have room for that bs in this sport.

yea that was a bonehead move on davids part...theres other ways to payback other then that...

you said it, that could have hurt him. i dont really like "One Problem Montoya" but, David is an ass. =)
