Here's an idea; place the trap doors and activate all of them to be flipped up, then place repeaters behind all of them, so when you hit the pressure plates, they return to the down position for a split second then flip back up, but in a wave, thus you simply keep walking or running forward to stay on the new, temporary bridge. Otherwise it will be a hallway paved with lava!

Can you make a tutorial on how to make disappearing stairs in a mine? and when they disappear (using pistons) the griefer or monster falls into lava. I always love those.

I think the best way is not to use lava, but water flowing downwards. If you have it deeper than two blocks deep, the monsters would drown, and then you could go get their drops. Works pretty good, and it's quite safe once you get used to it.

Why dont you just build it without lava? Make a drop to an empty saferoom where you can later kill the mob and loot it.
