  • You call it immoral to send these people back. No, it is not it immoral for you to sit there and tell U.S. citizens and legal immigrants that these illegals have the right to take our jobs and suppress our lives in our own country. How Dare You?

  • The truth is, if we lived in a nation as poor as Mexico that bordered a nation as rich as the US and crossing meant our children might eat, then we would cross too.

  • first of all, please don't label all of Mexico as "poor". There is obviously a class system there just as there is here. The poor who do come to the US often do so to find better job opportunities because they cannot find work in their community and cannot afford to live in a city so that they can get a college education (since it is not an issue to afford education b/c it is free). So this representation of all Mexico being poor is so simply because that is what is seen in the US.

  • I realize that not all Mexicans are poor. Relative to the US, Mexico is a poor country. This is why there is emigration to the US. I do think we are saying the same thing. Those that come, come for the opportunity. I am merely empathising with those crossing, by saying we would do the same if we were in their position.

  • whoa whoa whoa, what dream world are you living in

now Mexico's a nice place don't get me wrong

but the average monthly income in Mexico (in US dollars) is around $700

average monthly income for the US is around $3000 (again in US dollars[obviously])

fact is, overall Mexico is poorer then the US

doesn't mean all Mexicans are poor and all Americans are rich

    but comparatively that is true

    one last thing

love the new character counter here.

  • We took their best land during the illegal Mexican-American war, which Americans did not support and Thoreau refused to pay taxes for and wrote the famous essay on civil disobedience. Since then we have exploited their workers and now we want them gone. We have made the immigrant a scape goat and forgotten that most of our ancestors were immigrants- many illegal and violent towards the native. The whole immigration debate is a sanctioned excuse for racism.

  • What do you mean with protect the border imigrants come to the united states to work not to cause Chaos imigrants put alot of effort to this country some immigrants can be such dumm asssess but not all immigrants are like that.We came illegal too we killed to be here we killed Native americans to be here Mexicans and other hispanics dont come here to kill they come to work and that supports the country alot belive me.

  • But there are terrorist and worse street gang members such as MS 13 have also come here, this is why we need to secure the borders, not just for mexicans sake, but for american sake.

I Don't hate all mexicans, but this is a huge problem and it has to be solved.

  • what industies they all are in CHINA!

  • american goverment manupulates countrys in southamerica. so to have people flok to were the money is and thats america. its a very smart strategie masked by the saying protect our borders.

  • Not a single illegal should get citizenship until every person already cleared by the INS and waiting for their turn gets citizenship.

I like Gravel, but he's missing this one piece. Don't reward the crime without rewarding the people who did the right thing FIRST.

  • mike you are the best. you speK THE true

  • sounds good!! from 0-------{citizen} wow I hope they do Bcgrnd Chek and all that stuff and deport all the bad mexicans!!

  • immigrants aren't only mexicans...you know that right?...racist

  • So if you're mexican you're a bad person?

  • yes

  • ah well it seems your daughters have a thing for us Latin guys... I'm a BAAAAD MAAAAN ;)

  • reproductive rights in latin america is the US's responsibility? WTF???? How many BILLIONS of dollars would you like to spend on that issue? NO MORE NATION BUILDINGG...of ANY kind. Get the national debt down FIRST, fix education, and then do about 132522323 million other things that pertain to AMERICA and then MAYBE we start giving a fuck about reproductive rights in latin america.

You libs are just batshit crazy sometimes.

  • magnulus said it wrongly. but us should not be responsible for economic developments if united staes did not practically rob latin americas resources through the free trade agreement or nafta...without robin us US would not have money to do many of the things you mention

  • Are you fucking retarded? Robbed because of NAFTA? NAFTA destroyed the lower-middle and middle class in the US. And when the US shipped jobs down there, the CEO's of the Mexi companies outsourced half the work to China. Stay current or stay home. Mexico is a shithole on every level...why do you think so many of its people want to come here?

  • im peruvian...not even mexican...how white can u get?

  • When it comes to Peruvian you can get that stuff real white [rimshot]

  • The national debt is fixed by getting rid of the federal reserve. The national debt is fed every time the federal reserve creates a new debt based note.

Education is broken because it is subsidized by the government. And the government can't have smart people running around questioning their tyrannical whims.

Education should be our first priority. Then we would see less dumbass comments like the ones you seem to make (better spelling too). National debt is easy. Get rid of debt based money.

  • I don't like Ron Paul and I think Mike Gravel or Dennis Kucinich are our best chances at reclaiming America back to the American people. They are our only hope for true progressive change!

  • Not really, ron paul does it even better, no anmesty and both kucinich and paul support the united nations, because the UN is a sinister organization that is working against the interest of the U.S, Look at their gun control policy, they want to repeal the 2nd amendment and that is very, very dangerous concern.

  • I'd only support amnesty for illegals if we have a realistic way of ending the cycle of poverty in Latin America. the US needs to work harder on ensuring reproductive rights and economic developement there.

  • YES TO STEM CELL RESEARCH!

    YES TO Gay Marriage RIGHTS!

YES TO WELFARE ON OUR VETERANS!

    YES TO ANOTHER 9/11 INVESTIGATION!

YES TO MIKE GRAVEL FOR PRESIDENT 2008!

    Gravel 08

  • why do some southern people speak SOOOO SLOW in their daily discourse. I mean the way the world operates, you have a limited time to pitch your ideas. You cant have meaningful discourse without speed and concision because the world moves too fast and people have places to go and not enough time for you. You might just get cut off like that lady who asked the question did. Decadence, perhaps?

  • sorry your time is up....Next?

  • right on gravel

  • He's right about how American Interventionism and international trade policy have screwed people in the 3rd world, but at some point a line has to be drawn in the sand. The best way we can help 3rd world nations is to force them to make reforms, by limiting the amount of people that come here and eliminating off foreign aid corprate welfare. Then the people will rise and take their nations back.

  • With all due respect Secure Border and a path to citizenship do not go together. Get rid of the subsidies to the elist 3rd world governments amd eliminate corprate welfare to companies that outsource jobs. With a lack of foreign aid and corpate influence these countries will have to return to a free market and allow genuine competition.

  • I don't see how how they can't go together. I'm not for allowing tons of illegals here, however, most are good hardworking people that do benefit this country. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to detain and deport so many people back to their countries? Not all come from Mexico you know.

  • Your correct that not all come from Mexico, but it can't cost as much as all the unconstitutional social programs illegals and Americans get

  • My question is. What is he planning to do to stop the problem? I can think of a simple strategy that can fix the problem & help those that really want to be citizens become so. PLUS fix several problems in this country like it's deficit, unemployment, education, health care, homelessness, just to name a few. It would take a three pronged attack, and at 1st be considered un-moral by those that have caused the problem does he have the balls to do it as well?

  • How is that the most moral thing to do??? Mike Gravel should be more worried about the best options for americans and not illegals, plain and simple. By doing what he wants he is encouraging illegals to come here and giving them more incentive... Ron Paul says it best... when you subsidize something you get more of it... at least we agree that NAFTA is hurting US, by US i mean the united states... Mike Gravel should join the Ron Paul campeign in getting him elected...

  • So GRAVEL favors a path to citizenship for illegals.

    NO WAY JOSE.

  • NAFTA has been effective. I am tired ideologues spewing trade rhetoric. It is insulting my intelligence because I have actually taken the time to study trade policy and theory. I believe Gravel is good guy, but his beliefs aren't all that substantive.

  • I dare you to find what the Income tax pays for

  • mike would stand a better chance had he run as a republican....he would have more money than the bismal 31,000 he has now...open secrets. org

  • Go Gravel!

  • When your parents & grandparents came to this country, they where let in this country with know quotas. How can you open our borders to only certain people claiming Political Asylum. But because we where born here we get to pick and choose who may enter. And 1 more thing get rid of the Electoral College so are votes count in the National Election we have plenty of communication and it is not needed any more like it was when they wrote the Constitution.

  • As for the legalization, there are almost certainly many more than 12 million illegal aliens here - including 14% of Mexico's workforce. Perhaps we should pressure the corrupt Mexican government to take their people back and reform their system rather than relying on sending us people. Also, the legalization will be seen as an amnesty around the world, causing millions and millions more to try to come here illegally.

Gravel isn't able to think this through, or something else is going on.

  • "Perhaps we should pressure the corrupt Mexican government to take their people back..."

Or perhaps we should mind our own fucking business for once and stop trying to pressure other countries to do our bidding.

Mexico has problems. Don't you think they're trying to solve them? Instead of trying to "pressure" their government (as if they were some kind of vassal), we ought to be helping them improve their economy so their people don't have to come here for jobs.

  • "Also, the legalization will be seen as an amnesty around the world, causing millions and millions more to try to come here illegally."

Millions of immigrants coming to America? Absolutely unheard of!

How far we've strayed from our path. People in Mexico are impoverished and hungry. They need to be here much more than you need them out.

  • quiIl: please watch your intellectual honesty. Millions of new illegal aliens coming here is greatly different from an orderly flow of legal immigrants. Ask Gravel: I'm sure (or at least I'd hope) he can tell the difference.

Mexico's GDP is right behind Canada and they're home to the world's richest man. If you want to see "impoverished and hungry", there are *billions* of people in worse shape.

  • I don't know about you, but I'm actually pretty proud to live in a coutnry that can say 12% of its population is foreign-born. Diversity has always been America's best quality.

Illegals aren't taking your jobs. They only do the work no one else would do anyway, and while they're here they pay sales taxes on everything they buy. They should be obeying proper channels bus since those don't work very well, my answer is not to close the doors on them, it's to fix the process of citizenship.

  • Solipsism now! Illegal aliens are lowering wages for our fellow Americans; presumably Gravel would represent the interests of low-wage earning Americans and put those ahead of the interests of foreign nationals.

And, you misstated my stat: 14% of Mexico's working age population lives here; 1/7 of their workforce's job is sending money home rather than building up their country and reforming their system.

As for the U.S. making money off illegal immigration, that's what's called "corruption".

  • Just admit it, the basis of your argument is simple xenophobia. Illegal immigrants aren't taking lowering anyone's wages or destroying our economy. They pay sales taxes here, and the money they send home to Mexico gets spent in Mexico and works to better their economy. If you're concerned about the average American's salaries, you should be glad they're working here because if they were actually building decent factories in Mexico, that actually WOULD take jobs away from Americans.

  • while they may pay some sales tax, what about income tax? there are SEVERAL other types of taxes that they don't pay also. what we are importing with illegal immigration is poverty and we export money and jobs. Illegal immigration is just that ILLEGAL. there are LEGAL channels to come through for temporary seasonal migrant workers and for those who wish to permanantly live here.

  • Sales taxes? Are you kidding me? What about INCOME taxes? Sales taxes are much less and don't go to the federal government (which is the big spender).

  • There are over $3 billion from unclaimed immigrant taxes ! Over 70% of immigrants pay income taxes and ger nothing back-it goes to your pocket! And who do you think is paying for baby boomers' retirement? Immigrants. Who's keeping prices low? Immigrants. Who works harder and keeps jobs in US? Immigrants. Or you prefer those same jobs to go to China and India?

  • Amen!

  • exactly what job is it that an American won't do? Illegals ARE taking jobs by undercutting the free market system. it doesn't allow for true competition when someone can undercut theri costs by paying under the table. it makes for an unlevel playing field. Diversity is great, but come here legally. Is it easy to gain citizenship? no, and it shouldn't be either. If you obtain something of value for little/no effort you don't really cherish it for very long.

  • quiIl: Wonderful reply. Let's just allow Mexico to continue to send us people in an attempt to make money, and not say anything about it. Who would be the vassal in that case?

If we wanted to help improve their economy, taking away the easy out (sending us more people) would be a great way to help.

  • Wow, talk about ignorant. Amnesty, as it has been implemented in the past works only for those that can prove that they have been working in this country already.

  • He's blowing smoke. A long-term guest worker program like he's implying wouldn't work: "guests" would have U.S. citizen children and would settle down and would eventually be granted an amnesty. It was a scam when Bush/Kennedy/et al proposed it; what is it when Gravel does the same?

  • Lealizing illegals is AMNESTY. Amnesty rewards law breakers. This plan by the Senator will fail because the next batch of illegal will learn that America will not punish their illegal acts.

  • blah, blah, yadda, yadda, same crap from all politicians. No legalization for illegals, period!

  • You failed to see his point, period.

  • I saw his point and I totally disagree with it.

  • Disagree with it is not really helping economic crisis in Mexico. Want to keep Mexican of your soil? Generate buisness on their soil. Damn That Simple.

  • I agree with Mike's views on this issue completely, but I think there's one component he's missing. Once we've created a path to citizenship, we need to begin cracking down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants. This, along with new trade agreements, will help to remove the incentive for people to immigrate to the country illegally.

  • I like the guy, although I don't agree 100% with him. He could be better president than most other front running candidates. I noticed he's a lot more toned-down now.. makes me wonder...

  • Whilst I disagree with Gravel's solution..because it would be the death of Social Security, but I can certainly see where he's coming from, I have a great deal of respect for the chap. His points about NAFTA and its effects on both jobs here and in Mexico could not be more accurate.

  • KIDiotequeA who's going to provide the population base for Social Security which Gravel will save? ;)

  • I myself do not care about social security. I would rather have my money in my pocket for ME to save. My life is my responsibility, not the governments.

  • You know what is constitutional? Treason against your country and constitution is punishible by death. Bush and all his cronies, people behind the Federal reserve, Members of the Council of Foriegn Relations etc. etc. etc., should all be sentenced to death. A mass hanging at high noon for all to see. For these people are too powerfull to be left alive. Perhaps then, we would be able to restore the vision of America.

  • I wonder what he has to say on the subject of the North American Union? Your constitution is now obsolete people. Federal reserve, unconstitutional. Income tax, unconstitutional. Patriot Act, unconstitutional. Carrying out terrorists attacks against your own country, unconstitutional.

  • Mike has seen Zeitgeist, and had a lot to say. Let me find some quotes.

  • That would be much appreciated. Ive heard him make comments on a few of those topics, however I would love to hear him go a little more in-depth.

  • Jbarisoff it's the MORAL THING TO DO!

Why do the ronpaulspammers continue to spam Gravel's videos like annoying children?

  • "Guest" workers... this is not the American way. This is not how my grandparents got here, nor your parents or grandparents Mike. If there is an underground of people working illegally in this country, and there is, it is the people who employ illegal workers to the detriment of everyone else that must be made to pay the price. If you're in this country working legally... you're on the path to citizenship. Period.

  • I'm with Mike, I think he paints the whole picture accurately and all things considered.

You notice that the first thing he said is that WE NEED TO PROTECT OUR BORDERS and STOP the INFLOW OF IMMIGRANTS into this country.

Okay, so no more of that. That's his first point. Plain and simple.

Then he addresses the other aspects, what about those already here, and what about the NAFTA issue, the root of why their so desperate to get overhere even to the point of breaking the law.

  • Gravel is a true leader addressing the whole issue.

He also is a strong supporter of the Fair Tax which would make it impossible for illegal immigrants here to avoid paying their fair share in taxes.

    He's spot on.

We need solutions for today, more than idealism.

  • people always say its rasist to stop illegals guess what if you were here legally it would be fine

  • people who say is racist are dumb! there a saying look after number one and that's your own right? Not everyone else :)

  • (illegal people)we are a bunch of monkeys that draw imaginary lines in the ground

  • finally someone w/ some sense. Fuck national borders

  • I'm a registered Republican, but I would vote for Gravel, he seems to be the most genuine of the Democrats running for the Pres. Ticket!!...Give em hell, Gravel!

  • Keep fighting Gravel!

i personally want all the illegals deported, and criminalized for illegal re-entry.

  • God damn why cant you be heard why the fuck are people like hillary or obama on top when you have the greatest ideas. WTF

  • fantastic, second!

  • Good video Senator Gravel!

  • Thanks! We've got GREAT supporters, and many are tech savvy. I worked with youtube user mulcahey on this one. It's his work!

  • Mike Gravel is going to be on Bill Maher soon. Watch it if you can.

  • Someone should get that on youtube right? I used to have hbo and such but of course money money money! lol Hopefully I can catch that maher episode on here..

  • yes

  • We're working to get it on Youtube.

  • Yeah Mike Gravel did pretty well on Real Time.

  • I wonder if John Mellencamp (spelling?) would endorse our campaign.
