  • Das, Have you tried Arch linux? What do you think about that distribution?

  • I tried to install their latest beta the other day, and it failed. I recently bought a hp dv8t and am testing Kubuntu, Gentoo, Fedora, and Suse. Gentoo and Kubuntu have been the most stable so far, but am battling with the fact that my wireless only works with kernel 2.6.32 and better. It's hard to find distro's that let you build with the latest kernel without having to create a custom kernel. I may give Arch another chance.

  • Well, I think you may like Arch. I've been using Arch for almost a year and I can say only good things about it. Imagine Gentoos performance without compiling time. Its Arch in short terms. Ofcourse, you also have option to compile with abs system. There is also arch user repository with thousands of tarballs free to compile and put on your box. In my opinion, Arch gives you many options to choose without forcing you to anything.

Where did it hang up with installation? Maybe I can give a hint.

  • Just checked uname -a and Arch is using 2.6.32 as a standard version of kernel. Your wireless may very well work with Arch.

  • I was using the netboot latest img file when the install blew up... so I have gotten the latest stable, and will install that today as soon as I fix my partitioning. Thanks for checking.

  • No problem Das.

  • C'mon DasGregor... When u gonna make another Linux Video??? :) hehehe

    kaddy.

  • Yes... I need to.

  • hello from germany :D ^^ ,

your videos are alltime great !

Can you make a video over germany :) ?

how you find it :D ?

  • Hardy Heron seems to be really buggy. Just yesterday my package manager stopped working properly. It gives me an error message everytime I try to install something. I might have to downgrade or move to a different os.

  • I'm looking to install Gentoo on this EeePC, but want to make sure I can restore Xandros just in case...

  • Hey, I bought an Eeepc recently too. I bought the 2g surf though, which doesn't come with a webcam. :( I installed arch linux on my Eeepc, which is also what I use on my desktop. I actually bought my Eeepc to help me install gentoo. XD

  • Welcome back. :)

  • Thanks!! I hope to be a little better at my posts now that I have something a little more portable to do my videos on.
