  • This Band Suck , , And it slowed it down Get up With JACKSON STATE or GRAMBLING Or SOUTHERN SMH

  • And Definently Not Better Than Southern at All

  • They Might Have Better Control Cuz LSU Dragss The Shitt off Everything. But They Still Have A Good Sound

  • LSU has much better tone and control than SU. Obviously. But...I'd much rather listen to SU play it. Yea, "Cranking" isn't a very good display of musicianship, but it much better fulfills the purpose of a stand tune (in my opinion), which is to pump up the crowd and the football players. Of course, SU probably does it better because their players need it more...You don't see their football team winning championships...

  • I still go to High scool and play for the band in Cypress, Texas and I am definitely going to lsu for the program. Own'em LSU!

  • All I know is that Katy stricktland have EAHS LSU's neck and we play their version!!

  • can anyone tell me who originally wrote this song? is it an LSU original or is it by a hip-hop artist?

    - a white Arizona State student

  • @kvnftzsmmns The song is from a group called Cameo...LSU got it from Southern University...which is a show style HBCU band in Baton Rouge also..when LSU and Southern did an event downtown baton rouge and LSU director liked asked for the music and when he got it he put his own lil twist on it

  • @225carter Do you have any facts behind that? I know exactly what you're talking about. It was at that parade of champions after the 2003 national championships. I'm sure SU played Neck and I'm sure some people at LSU liked it and started thinking about playing it one day. But I don't think the rest went down like that. The directors didn't ask them for the music. Anyone one with a music degree should be able to arrange either version. Plus, LSU didn't start playing it for another 3 years.

  • THIS IS SLOW BORING ASS SHIT!

  • while i do think they played this very well, SCSU sounds better because they gave it way more feeling, LSU looks like they are having fun, but you won't know if you aren't looking at the video.

  • Sounds better this way than the

    Disrespectful way they chant now!!!

  • They stole that from Grambling who was playing it twenty years ago. . . . . . . . . but it does sound good, after all, they are TIGERS..........!!

  • @1stbase3 sorry, that is wrong...Not totally directed at you but people should do a little research before they comment. IN 1984, Texas Southern University Marching Band "The Ocean of Soul" played this against Jackson State University in Jackson, MS. From that point on, All SWAC bands started to emulate their idea of arranging this song for football game enjoyment. Surely, LSU heard their neighboring SWAC school Southern University "Human Juke Box" play this tune and ran with it.

  • Personally Southern has this beat to me, that's just how i feel

  • this would make Cameo pride a college band playing there song talking out the side of your neck

  • this bored me....... the arrangment has no color to it and dosent reflect the name i mean it is just plane boring.....while i admin they play it well the crowd wont be appreciative this

  • @DagamonEx this must be the only clip you had seen. from the oregon game to arkansas, the crowd is waayy into this!

  • My eyes must be playing tricks on me, you could not have possible said FAMU was better than Southern University. I enjoy both bands but hands down JSU & Southern kill FAMU in every aspect. LSU is the best SEC band by far tho, Alabama's MILLION DOLLAR BAND is horrible. GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!! I'm from Alabama by the way and I marched in an HBCU band

  • Tempo isn't right. I am in HS and we play it with the right tempo. Would sound nice at the right tempo.

  • @ClarinetplayerERHS It is being played at the same tempo as the original. Go and listen. Everyone is just used to hearing it played much faster than it actually is. Almost every band plays it different.

  • @ClarinetplayerERHS The actual song is this tempo although most marching bands speed it up

  • Ouachita is better than that

  • I'm in the band at Texas Southern and I like this version of neck as much as ours... lol

  • dat boy funky..lol

  • ►Obvious "Broken nEck" here!

  • @snellebrater ►Where is LSU's Band Director Grammy?

  • @Southern70805 where is ur band director's PhD in Music?

  • @tblade92 I think Roy King (LSU band director) has only a Masters degree (no Ph.D.)

  • This was adorable.

  • leave it alone please!

  • terrible

  • Where is this band from?

  • What's the "swac"? ... and if I catch it ... will penicillin get rid of it?

  • @swampwatch Ask your mom and sister!

  • TheDraqonmaster18 everybody might play it now but the HBCU school were playing it first

  • they stole it from the swac shcools

  • @jsutigers601 dude everyone plays this song wether they in the SWAC or not

  • And when you're winning....Neck is the...Hypest. Song. Ever.

  • And let’s be really, real folks…bands bite all the time. ;o)

  • Now that a bigger, more recognizable university, to most Americans has started playing it in the last 5-8 years, it has made it into the mainstream and become even more popular outside of the HBCU community. And the fact is….EVERYONE seems to love it! Now I am partial to and LOVE all my HBCU marching bands, but I am also proud of LSU (or any school for that matter) for taking it on and making it their own (all bands-HBCU or not-have their own versions of a variety of songs).

  • I see the posts where some HBCUs’ bands and fans (ex. Southern and Grambling) are taken aback and seem sensitive when they hear it and get all upset. I think the issue is that it is a classic HBCU marching band cover since it came out in the 80s (which is when HBCUs initially started playing it….it’s like a staple in most HBCUs marching band playbooks).

  • LSU has an awesome version of “Neck” and the sound is phenomenal, however, while the band members are more than likely educated on the origin of the song (Cameo – Talkin’ Out the Side of Your Neck ©1984), could someone please let the majority of the LSU fans in on the background reasons of the song being played…or at least the accurate lyrics to the chorus line? LOL! (I have heard some CRAZY mess shouted out by the crowd when it’s played! LMBO!)

  • im a lsu fan but i like the sound and jazz of the jukebox of southern

  • im a lsu fan but i like the sound and jazz of the jukebox of southern

  • you can tell they are white lmfao, but still ok.

  • This shyt is slow......in the words of next friday. "I can't get jiggy with this shit"

  • this shit sucks

  • Some fuckin pussies copycat bitches

  • talk about slow :D

  • If LSU played that at Southern not only would it sound better than Southern's Marching band, but LSU would also be beating the shit out of the Southern football team so badly the Southern Marching band would never have a reason to play Neck anyway.

  • @michmarchese hells nawww southern dnt giv a fuk bout d football game dey gone play it anyway n blow d fuk outta LSU mann r guys even serious comparing lsu corny ass band against d best band in the world literally. I agree about d football part though cus i like lsu football team but d band dey aight but we kno der not dat entertainment type band shit SU can take wat lsu do n make it sound ten times better bro c'mon mann i cnt believe u think lsu neck sound better dan SU's errbody kno SU better

  • @patboy07 Best band in the world my ass! Ever heard of FAMU? Blasting or "cranking" as they say it, as loud as one can on their horn hardly makes a band better. I personally like SU's arrangment of Neck more but they play it horribly. I don't like the LSU version but they know not to play outside of their control and sound like crap. That's the difference. Control (LSU) vs. no control (SU).

  • @sousa07ful Reallly I do not like SU arrangement I really prefer GSU arrangemeant and I am a full flegde tuba girl. I love FAMU but GSU is still a great band hands down

  • bring it like yall going lose tomorrow bad out of bcs and i like lsu

  • @michmarchese .... What is southern?

  • @swampwatch Southern University

  • @michmarchese YES LSU FOOTBALL WOULD WIN BUT, SOUTHERN WOUD TEAR A WHOLE IN LSU'S ASS WITH THEIR BAND! I MEAN NO COMPETITION. LSU HAS NOWHERE NEAR THE POWER OF SOUTHERN. LSU'S BAND CONTAINS WEAK HORN HOLDERS THAT ARE USED TO MAKE THE BAND LARGER. IF THEY WERE THE SAME SIZE AS SOUTHERN, AND WENT HEAD TO HAED WITH THEM, LSU WOULD NEED 2,000 LBS. OF KLEENEX BECAUSE THEIR FEELINGS WOULD BE HURT! I'M JUST SAYING. SOUTHERN WOULD BLOW THE MESS OUT OF Y'ALL WITH "NECK" OR ANY OTHER POWER SONG. SMH @LSU!

  • @michmarchese LOL. You are dreaming too freaking hard. But, that is good. If that is what they are teaching you. Anyways, back to reality. Yes, LSU football would easily beat SU. You are wrong about LSU's "Neck" sounding better than SU's. Southern would so easily annihilate LSU's band with "Neck"! LSU's band contains weak horn holders that are used to make their band larger. That is why LSU sounds so weak. LSU would need 2,000 lbs. of Kleenex when SU finishes them off. LSU would be SU's bitch!

  • @BOBEAUX5 Omg lol overkill at the end xD

  • @michmarchese Two words: Noooo Sir

  • Comment removed

  • that was cute.. lets see them try to play that at Southern haha

  • @musictpt1 they scared..

SU would get in dat ass

  • umm not as good as the real bands that play it #teamRSOS

  • Boring

  • your wrong @sousa07ful lsu bwnd sucks just shits theyvdint wabt tobput newvmusic new feeling like su jsu they just ild wackb

  • This is really boooooring!! I don't know what they thought they were doing.

  • @mrspeed48 If only you knew what the chant was to this song. lol

  • @obamasuxdick2992

suck that tiger......!!!! hahahaha i heard it

  • Lsu can't touch Su or jsu they have real music it looks like these white band not play at all it just show I wish tht Su jsu txsu morris brown was playing in the standing of big college lsu band is waste of talent I play mello and I bet if I went to lsu band is be the coolest one in it

  • @Ruakrio What the hell are you trying to say? If you were in LSU's band, you'd be the most ignorant. Read a book or something.

  • Fuck all of you lsu

  • @Ruakrio Lol U mad bro

  • @Ruakrio LOL U MAD BRO

  • im in high school and we play tht and we speed it up and it sounds good tht way but yall is good

  • The first time I ever heard "neck" was in 1984 by the Howard University Band in DC. That was the year Cameo released the song.

  • For all of you "musicians" out there...while this may seem a little boring to you...you have to consider the audience that they were playing it for...I love HBCU bands, but I elected to go to a "white" school and march in the band...a different experience from high school where we marched corp style for my first three years and my last two we were a show band (i started in 8th grade, lol)...I can truly appreciate both...Once again...consider the audience...

  • @psibertiger agreed!

  • LSU has aboring marchin band ever they sound like shit..

  • This band sound sorry ass fuck..try playing against south Carolina state marching band y'all will get y'all ass cutting......lol

  • This is real music all the other schools like SU, GSU, FAMU etc...they play their instruments too loud sounds like somebody is screaming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is real music all the other schools like SU, GSU, FAMU etc...they play their instruments too loud sounds like somebody is screaming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LSU is the best at playing neck and LSU is way better than LA Tech!!!!!!

  • @MrTaylor6422 that's a negative ghostrider this is puttin me to sleep

  • LSU is the best at playing this song! better that LA Tech!!! way betterthan Tech!!!!!!

  • su is a copycat....GSU...check your stats....the real trend setters.....

  • I feel for SU, LSU's band is never original, talented yes, but original no...They took Hey Babby from Penn St. too.

  • like i said people stop playing this sing with it was made over in like 2005. i bet LSU is gonna start playing Phill Collins 'In the air tonight" like my high school (Istrouma) and SU

  • i play the clarinet. can't wait to hit lsu band they go hard

  • This song was so great too bad lsu banned it. I can see why they banned it if the student section kept on saying that stupid chant. I mean im in college too(and in da band) but there are still over 50,000 non college people in da stands who im pretty sure dont want to hear dat shit. I kno for LSU fans its a bummer, but there's no place for it. However, I wouldn't mind if they said talking out the side of your neck bitch, but u didn't have to include that other shit

  • Wow Cameo!, Marching Bands, high school and college have been playing this song for over twenty years!

  • Does any realize how powerful and articulate Lsu's band is? Don't get me wrong, I love SU's version and FAMU's version. I enjoy it better from an entertainment perspective. But I go to LSU for entertainment and musicianship.

  • @nigelholland3 If a white person made a comment like this, black people would be SCREAMING racism... That's what makes me laugh. BTW, this version has the same tempo as the original Cameo song. HBCU's play it way too fast. LSU has it right.

  • I JUST LOVE THIS

  • just 2 let yall know lsu started playing that song when Southren University and my high school started playing that now everybody is playing it

  • @bowlegz13 Sorry bro. Grambling State starting playing neck years before Southern University. Just ask any SU alum who was in the band in 1995 or 1994 and they will tell you who the truth. In fact SU fans used to get tired of Grambling playing the song every other sond at the football games. Yes, Grambling started it.

  • @MrRealandreal what r u talking about the song came out in like 05-06 sooo what song r u talkin bout

  • @bowlegz13 05-06? boy wth u talkin bout. neck came out in the 80's

  • @MrRealandreal mybad wrong song but still SU started first

  • @bowlegz13 yea, except SU sounds like a bunch of truck drivers blowing their horns on the freeway, i listened to Southern's version it sounded like shit.

  • Of course LSU's version isn't as good as a HBCU, they're too busy putting an elite football team on the field!

  • say "eh oh, talking out of your side of your neck

  • Not bad, but it just ain't got soul.

  • @SoulfulBrutha5805 by soul, do you mean since their band isn't black? That's a lame argument.

  • Comment removed

  • @bull864 Anyone can have soul, my friend. Nujabes had soul and he was Japanese.

This song lacks soul. It doesn't make me get hype from listening to it. That's what Neck is supposed to do. Pump up the crowd.

  • to slow!

  • Ha white folks playing some ''Neck''.Gone head LSU.

  • @TipToe1995 yeah I was in a high school that had more white folks then anything and well we played it better then most.. of course not as slow and dull as LSU but yeah.. I like southern's version of the the best.

  • yes HBCU's are influencing bands all over this is a great thing...and they sound good would love to hear them crank it up!

  • @Tj23851 please note that lsu is not trying to copy a black school just because black schools are playing neck they play it because it gets the fans excited about the football games and because they enjoy playing it they are not trying to copy a black school they are corps style marching band not show style

  • I'm sorry. UAPB has this beat.

  • @Schizo42 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • Although I think that uapb's version of neck is the best, I find that this version of neck is pretty darn good.

  • In the words of Chuck D from Public Enemy...

    "Who stole the soul?"

  • If they could speed this song up, they would be a really, really, really awesome band

  • @12ppb I hear you about the "soul", but I put some thought into it. We listen to SU's version and it sounds so blown out and run together. LSU's version sounds the same whether you're sitting in front of them or accross the field.

  • i just heard southerns version and its nothing like this....THIS IS SOOO MUCH BETTER....LSU LSU LSU

  • i like lsu's...but i wish it was a bit faster and had more soul put into it

  • Haha band nerds fighting! Truth is no one else gives a shit about the bands and you are dedicating your time to something totally worthless.

  • @sw2467 I dont kno where in da fucking country your from but in the SEC we love our football teams and our bands!

  • @sw2467

Please tell me you are kidding?

"truth is no one else gives a shit about the bands"

Marching Band is ... you know what? Why defend it against such an ignoramus.

  • LSU obviously has excellent musicians. We may not have the dance moves of SU, but we are clearly better musicians. I would rather listen to better musicians than to watch a bunch of dancers butcher a song.

  • What's with all the musical piety? Be it Southern or LSU music is universal no one style is law. Keep it simple stupid and enjoy the song, no matter who plays it Cameo's tune is jamming, let that be it. This band is doing what ALL bands were created to do entertain (especially at a football game) .

  • for sum white folks they can play

  • they need some black snare drummers in there. white people just aint gettin it. (and this is coming from a white person. no offense awesome white people drummers!)

  • SU has a more soulful arrangement, but they're too busy blasting and dancing to actually play it right. LSU's arrangement may be relatively bland, but at least they play it properly. I personally enjoy LSU's version much more than SU's, though SU's version is more fun to sing to myself (where the arrangement is not butchered by boisterous excuses for musicians).

  • @MrMertakhai This version would make me stay in my seat. Other versions would have me jumping up spilling my beer.

  • @bmoreed (Very hyperbolic comparison here) People don't jump up out there seats for Beethoven, but it's pretty obvious that he's a far better musician than, say, T. Pain.

Point being, noise that gets you amped up is not comparable to legitimate music, though I agree that a lot of what show bands play can be pretty exciting (kind of the point of a football game, but meh...). Still, I prefer quality musicianship to loud noise.

  • @MrMertakhai well when u put it that way. Of course Beethoven is a better musician than TPain (not that I like either). I'm no musician, by any stretch, but I dont know if I would call either bands music noise. But doesnt excellent sound leads to excitement. But I understand your perspective and thank you for being so cool about it.

  • @bmoreed And I you *somewhat creepy smiley-face*

  • blah...

  • i like both LSU and Southern band. The two bands are doing a great job as musicians and what they do in the band.!!!! HBCU or not all bands sound great!

  • @TheTIGER2710 Once again some bands out there are horrible like LSU is when the play this song!

  • it sounds like a high school version of neck

  • @SCORPIOASU Yep!

  • HBCUs know no how to play this song they don't what is the matter with yall?!

  • lol wheres the real tuba break down..geez

  • Man I hate to see this division between Hbcu and D1 schools when they have two different styles. Most people saying Southern sucks and blah blah don't understand the history and the soul those students have. Either is bad, but when people make ignorant comments saying one is worse just shows that they have their heads stuck up their own ass. Some people think schools are divided into color when both types of schools play both sides of this made up Bullshit race spectrum. GET A LIFE!!!

  • jazz, blues, rock n roll, lets just be real this isnt the first time that white people have "adopted" an art form created or made popular by another ethnic group without giving that group any credit and it wont be the last. Hbcu bands like southern and others have been playing this song for almost 25 yrs. and now when lsu "catches on" they suddenly do it better? I dont think its a problem to play whatever it is you want to play but give respect where its due. Thats the only problem I see.

  • @Pasfinets I so totally agree with you!

  • @THEDICK4050 ok dumbass this is the 07 sugar bowl where lsu owned notre dame 41-14 for the championship. This has nothing to do with Texas

  • Much more controlled, LSU that is. I honestly can't tell what Southern's beat is. It just sounds like 100+ Brass Instruments blasting their horns to see if they can be louder than the other person.

  • @lw42 and wat video were you watching where you couldn't tell where a beat was? because i can put a 5th grader infront of SU and they can catch the beat. surely you can.

  • worst version of neck by far

  • Every marching band is different. LSU is not a show band. They don't play or march like a show band. They aren't going to play Neck like a show band either, they're going to play it like LSU. From what I see, they are not really corps style either, but whatever. Neck is one of the best stand tunes ever, everyone plays it.

  • they need to loosen up their bass drums

  • fOR SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY NECK VID THERE ARE OVER 500,00 VEIWERS!

  • neck for retards

  • Yes we all know that hbcu band are the best. For corp bands to always be talking trash they sure did jock one of our songs. Its sounds ok if your just going to play it around other corp style bands. But dont come around no showtime band playing this song cause ya'll would get blow the fuck back. lol JSU ALL DAY HBCU!

  • @showtimeband85 That's a matter of opinion. Corp style bands simply emphasize tone over dynamics. You're comparing apples and oranges.

  • every hbcu band will blow you guys away on this song

  • who wants to listen to that shi

  • it just seem dead to me......yall should speed it up a little

  • TEXAS LONGHORNS 35 LSU 20 final score...remember that ass whoopin! DONT MESS WITH TEXAS! hook em

  • well this sounds gud a lil.. jus speed it up a bit

  • I think it's a good arrangement but the speed is slow. I would suggest the tempo for this song to be at about...lively. I also believe that it needs a bit more feeling. Some more sound. Maybe.... forteforte

  • @CoolJoshBaby u mean fortissimo?

  • Nothing against both bands but has anyone given credit to Grambling??? Just saying

  • its is sad because, most of lsu's fans adminis. band staff, do not show a respect for what hbcu's bands do; yet they want to copy it in the stands to improve their mass appeal. this reminds me of what happened to jazz and the blues; started for us by us, yet not respected by others until they steal it and try to make it their own, then they show all types of praise upon themselves for being innovative for copying someone else. by the way to me that version is just plain boring.

  • Who's "us" and "them?" Sounds like you're stuck in the past. Music is for everyone. I can pick up a horn and play what i want to play just like the next person.

  • I like the way they slowed it down a bit...kinda jazzy. For a band that is not known for playing this type of music, they did a nice job!!!

  • when does lsu and southern play in football?

  • It sounds like neck, but there's no FEELING.

  • norfolk state has the best version of this song
