Frusciante is by far one of today's most innovative guitar players out there, He's constantly exploring new sounds and technics and I honestly can name one other guitar player throughout history who masters so many different technics as he does. In my opinion he is a very mediocre guitar player that shouldn't be compared to greats like Clapton or SRV. But I guess in today's world of music he is great cause the music of today (for the most part) sucks. But I'm going give "Slow Dancing In A burning Room" a listen and get back to you.
@awkelly I just listened to "Slow Dancing In a Burning Room" and come to the same conclusion. I don't care for his technique. It's stiff and doesn't flow, basically what I love about Clapton. Also doesn't have the Fire of Clapton, SRV and Santana. I've played with and seen many guitarist in the copy circuit that is much better than John, just my opinion.
please watch this and tell me he's a mediocre guitarist... the solo in particular but for his tone even when singing pretty challenging vocals. Just because it's new doesn't make it worse, and I believe that John Mayer represents music for the future. I couldn't agree more that most of the mainstream music is absolute dross, though... but take a listen!

@BigAl004 Thanks for the compliment Big Al. I was talking to my wife about it who happens to be a killer songwriter and she loves John Mayer. When she listens to a song it's the songwriting she listens to. When I listen to a song with a guitar player, I listen to the guitar, but if she says he's a great songwriter, he must be.
@BigAl004 But the fact of the matter is you don't have to be a "Hot" guitar player to be great. One of my all time favorite guitar players is George Harrison and he is very mediocre as far as technique. But especially with the Beatles, he came up with some great stuff. One of the pieces that made them great.

@Frijol42092 Well practice allot and you can, I can't play half as good as John but after hours of practicing his songs I get close. Anybody can be that good at guitar if they want it bad enough!
John Mayer went himself in Corona, California to select all the parts from that guitar. The "Big Dipper" have been designed for him, and you can find some on his signature strat. He also prefered a "relic" body, not so much for the way it looks, but for the sounds it gives. Hope i've answered at your question.

What the song is saying is "Believe is a beautiful armor and makes for the heaviest sword, like punching under water you never could hit who you're trying for." And then goes "We're never gonna win the world, we're never gonna stop the world...if believe is what we're fighting for." The song means that believe although beautiful cannot be accomplished in the same sense throughout the world. Different people have different believes. We can't go to war or fight with people because of believes

John Mayer went himself in Corona, California to select all the parts from that guitar. The "Big Dipper" have been designed for him, and you can find some on his signature strat. He also prefered a "relic" body, not so much for the way it looks, but for the sounds it gives. Hope i've answered at your question.
