I love that raw funk sound!  I'm really thinking of getting some of the cd collections of rare funk. Makes you wonder what happened to the bands though.

@jmarcguy Try getting the Kashmere Stage Band album - "Texas Thunder Soul". Blew my mind when i first heard it and my mate has it on first press vinyl! I think most of KSB ended up as recruits for James Brown. I think you can pick the album up off'f Play.com for around a ten - 15quid but it's well worth every penny! Hopefully this will, if you already haven't, set you on your way! If you find any sweet sounds get back to me! Easy.
