  • Whenever I see the coin toss scene, I always think one thing... What would Edgar have done if, after having tosses that coin so damn high into the air, he fumbled the catch and it went into the desert? I kinda doubt he has another one of that coin just lying around.

  • Sparta had 2 Kings, but those where still different families.

  • Splitting power, one lifts the sun, the other lifts the moon.

  • 9:46

    >"REVIVIFY"

    ....the fuck?

  • HC that is the name for bigfoot.

  • It may not be good to be king, but it just feels great. 10 respect points for getting the reference

  • Splitting power happened. The Roman empire was eventually split into an East and West empire, and each had two co-emperors. Of course, this was one of the things that eventually led to their downfall...

  • Of course you don't like seafood; you live in Chicago, there's no ocean for thousands of miles. God only knows what you're getting out there.

  • The Hunnic Empire was ruled by bothers Attila and Bleda they were so-called "Co-Kings" they appeared to rule together instead of dividing the nation like other rulers of course Attila and Bleda weren't as close as Edgar and Sabin Attila later murdered his older bother Bleda to rule the Huns alone

  • How ironic... Sabin "Ran Off" with the sprinting shoes, i think his steal rate is better than Locke's XD

  • HCBailly @ 3:59, thats what she said

  • "I don't refer to myself as a grownup" lol you're playing Final Fantasy and showing strangers online, I doubt you would! lol

Although I can't really talk since I'm watching it! haha! Great videos!

  • HC, to answer question about the sasquatch, it's just another name for Bigfoot.

  • thanks alot HC this lp is helping alot on my first playthrough of this game

  • So Figaro Castle is essentially the Technodrome??

  • I always thought the cut scene wasn't optional. I thought you had to go through it for the guy to pull the switch.

  • a sasquatch is supposedly bigfoot.

  • A sasquatch is essentially the same as Bigfoot.

  • wait wait so does the empire use poision to kill people ???

    thats anyway kinda stupid...

  • Going to your statment, there were many examples of kingdoms splitting up. Rome eventualy became two areas.

  • Hah, I first misread this title as a straight Mel Brooks reference, instead of a parody of one

"But that #@%!* Empire won't listen..." - wow some profanity that they just plain censored instead of awkwardly rewriting around it

"Aw Sabin! You took my Sprint Shoes!" - lol, I hate when that happens

Charlemane split the Roman Empire among his three sons, and look how that turned out (badly)

Edgar, and likely Sabin, knew how the coin toss would turn out

I liked Flash just for damage

  • The song during the cutscene is called "Coin of Fate"

  • sasquach is bigfoot

  • In Europe, when twins were the heirs for the throne, it was decided on who came out first. Wow, history actually helped me for once!

  • Man this game is long its reminding me of watching FF7 from start to finish.

  • it's easy, and was relatively common historically for rulers who controlled huge domains to give a partial inheritance to more than one heir, if they thought a single one wouldn't be able to handle the load. This was traditional in many cultures.

It was also possible to have two rulers. The most important example is the Roman empire, where sometimes up to four monarchs ruled different parts with roughly equal status before Constantine's division became "complete" after lasting generations.

  • Mostly I enjoy your commentary. However, you were kind of obnoxious during this tender scene.

  • SASquaTCH stands for Special Action Squadron Team of Cryptid Hunters. Bet you didn't know that.

This comment was brought to you by: Irregular Webcomic!. Read it, it's awesome. ;)

  • There was a system in ancient Sparta - two kings form different dynasties. They had different duties and it worked :)

  • There is nothing mythological about sasquatch, which is aka the bigfoot (or gigantepethicus) of America

There use to be bigfoots during the ice age

  • Most monarchies give all their fortune to the first son and give the left overs to the other issues. But having a nation split apart for two kings has never been done. That's unless you make the two their own Principalities within a kingdom and let one rule as king or emperor for a set number of years and let the other do the same or two city-states. But that's rare because children of royal dynasties are really spoiled. Just look at the English Civil War.

  • "You make an interesting proposition there, Edgar...Therefore heads, we accept. Tails, WE BLOW YOUR DAMN HEAD OFF"

    Nice evil voice btw.

  • "Wait - ah crap Sabin you took my sprint shoes!"

    That made me mega lol.

HCBailly you are indeed, as GaaraFredNorrisPro said, the King of LPs! x)

  • "oh thanks, I already helped myself to that" lol

  • we love hearing you get excited about that unknown free bed every time.

  • Technically, the only way to effectively have two kings is to change the government from a kingdom to an oligarchy. A system of government where there are two or more rulers. A prime example of an oligarchy would be in FFIV. I forget the name of the town, but it had the maidens governing it. It was the place that had its crystal stolen by that imp in the magnetic cave.

  • Generally speaking to divide the kingdom between them they'd probably just pick opposite halves to rule, subkingdoms essentially. But I don't really know either.

  • I think the way they would divide an empire between two kings would be basically, to pass a law they both have to agree, or it would be like Sparta and have one king for the army and one for the church. Having two kings is seen as a more stable form of government, because both kings must agree.

  • Which movie was he talking about?

  • Batman Forever, I think.

  • No Country for Old Men

  • Lol at Sabin stealing your Sprint Shoes.

And whats with you and 6 year olds?

  • Sasquatch is the correct name for big foot.

big foot is a "mythical" creature

    hope that clears it up.

  • HCbaily u are the king of ff

  • HCBailly, i just checked your channel and you have 9,485 subscribers. What suprise are you going to do once you hit 10,000? Cause with your growing popularity, it might happen this year!

  • More likely, I'll do something when I hit 1000 videos, which will probably be at about the same time. Ironically, I just hit 1,000,000 views too.

  • congrats, you are now the true king of LP's

Rise, Lord HCBailly! and you get a free Youtube Kingdom, free guards, your fiance is your queen, and you get secret treasure!! Sure hope it's not full of potions. *Checks the treasure* DAMMIT!!

your queen gets treasure too. *Checks treasure* Fire arrows, ice arrows, tis one better not contain lighting arrows, DAMMIT!!

  • But the only way to get the SECRET TREASUUUURE is if he can find the SECRET PATHHHAGE!!!! Being king isnt all fun and games! HAHAHA

  • @HCBailly two years later and youre over 2000 videos 8,000,000+ views and 50,000+ subs id say BRAVO SIR!!

  • sasquatch = bigfoot

  • Dividing the lands among the sons was common at one point. Charlemagne's empire was split into three parts when his son died, essentially forming what we know today as France and Germany as separate entities.

In Figaro's case, it makes even less sense because there's only one caste. What, Edgar gets Figaro Castle and Sabin gets South Figaro?

Even is Sabin hadn't inherited the throne, he'd still be well off as a Prince, likely titled as a Duke as well. No need to be a drama queen and run away.

  • I was thinking about that today. Although they never even infer it, might Kohlingen and Jidoor be part of the Figaro kingdom, since they're practically right next to it when it's on that side of the mountains? Maybe they would divide it that.

"To my youngest son Sabin, you get the eastern half of the kingdom: the one with the crappy equipment shops."

  • @HCBailly Well, at least it allowed the awesome irony that Edgar (a king who likes flirting and is a machine nut in combat) and Sabin (a monk) are twin brothers!

  • I always assumed that Flash was the equivalent of a free Bolt 2 spell; it seemed like enemies that were weak to Bolt took the greatest damage. I never even thought to try it with Earrings. But that being the case, I'm not so sure it's non-elemental. Maybe.

  • Wait, did you just try to open a chest...with a lockpicker...only to be told it's LOCKED?

  • He's a TREASURE HUNTER! Sheesh!

He's not a thief until... later.

  • Wow HC, way to ruin such a emotion cutscene. :p

  • Portable castle.

    Badass!

  • usally one would kill the other before that happend....otherwise rule of sucession the oldest gets put onto the throne unless they die....so usally the youngest get put somewhere else and trained for other things...twins are the same first one out is the heir....otherwise power can be distrubuted right down the middle...lil complicated but can be done...there ya go HC a lil history lesson for ya.

  • i like batman for ever as well

  • If the enemies there aren't immune to Darkness, it's useful all the way to there, yes.

I've yet to test which monsters are susceptible to Darkness, and which are not.

I think they did decrease the damage output just a little bit, though.

  • In the Advance version, because Darkness isn't bugged, the Flash is almost obscenely over-powered.

  • Lol, wouldn't having the castle go underground and go to a place a whole mountain range away be a major inconvience for everyone else?

    Just a thought. :]

  • I never even noticed that Flash dealt damage!

  • Same here.

  • sasquatch = BigFoot :D

  • pizza>seafood any day

  • Coin song, i thought i heard this somewhere else, i don't remember playing the game, but i remember the song, wtf?

I have to quote you "Oh crap sabin you took my spring shoes!"

  • 4:11 That's why I always carry a spare pair of Sprint Shoes in my inventory.

  • To quote Rydia: "You´re a man aren´t you? A grown-up!"

That pretty much settles it for this vid.

  • Huh; for some reason I never got Flash and Drill. So Flash is Magic-based? All of his other Tools are physical attacks, correct?

  • Bioblaster is also magic-based.

  • 5:49 I always just assumed that Edgard would be in charge of Figaro castle proper and Sabin would be in charge of South Figaro, then again I think that would make Sabin a Duke, Lord or Baron or something.

Oh and a Sasquatch is a Cryptid an animal that has yet to be proven to exist like Mothman and the Jersey Devil most are (clearly) myths but some like Megalodon and the Japanese wolf have been proven to at one point exist.

  • Yay, free inn! :D lol. You said VI all excited. XD VI and VII are the two best FF's imo. I think VI might be better but I'm not sure. I never played VII but it looks amazing, and I had a lot of good times with VII. X is also good.

  • I think VI is better, heck I even think IV is.

  • I think Sabin and Edgar's father wanted to split the Kingdom in two. What they meant is the Realm to be split in two, not the Power. Think of the Roman Empire when it became the Western Roman Empire (The Actual Rome) and the Eastern Roman Empire (that would live on until 1453).

  • Good point - I was also thinking of the split of the Habsburg dynasty in the 16th Century into the Spanish and Austrian branches.

  • I didn't know Narshe is worth exploring now.

I like the flashback to Figaro brothers, too.

  • dude i know its going to be awhile but im so excited for ff8 its the first one i can play with you its going to be awesome oh and a sasquatch is a like bigfoot

  • I think the thing in this game was a yeti rather than a sasquatch (the difference, as far as I know, is that yetis are white and Tibetan, while sasquatches are brown and American).

And I think Yetis and Sasquatches are - like gods, ghosts, greys (the aliens with big eyes that farmers claim to have been anally probed by), and the three personages of the Freudian psyche - projections of ourselves onto nature. See an indeterminate shape in the woods? Hey, it must be something like a man!

  • I liked the dark knight too HC, no doubt... the problem is tho is that they strayed from the story line and it makes a whole different feeling to watching batman...

comparing 90's batman to dark knight batman is like comparing bruce lee to jackie chan.

  • Sasquatch is like bigfoot. All the evidence (or lack thereof) points to it not existing.

  • Will the drill you buy be the one that pierces the heavens HCBailly?

  • TENGEN TOPPA!! GURREN...LARGANN!!

    ORETACHI WO..DARE DATTO OMOTTE YAGARU!!!

All caps 'cause those guys are always shouting lol. Great anime -classic.

  • Sasquatch is Bigfoot.

  • "sabin u took my spring shoes"xD

  • Nice Simpsons reference reference with the Simba Kimba thing.

  • Indeed... "Luke, I'm your father" "This is CNN"

God, the Simpsons was a really great show ten years ago...

  • Add another ten to that, and I'll agree with you. ;-)

  • HC! love the videos and love the reference

haha! bonus geek points if you can name what the episode was about!

yeah season 3 to season 13 was great... after that then it became Dragonball GT i mean Simpsons GT. At least Dragonball GT was mildly interesting... sort of.

  • nice lion king reference. really good movie.

great sad song. the best part about this game is that the music will only get better from here on, especially very soon in the game if u know what i mean =).

  • It's a Simpsons reference as well.

  • I always pronounced it [Co-Ling-In]

  • Long "o" does make the most sense, since it's (literally - Japanese vowels are extended in terms of number of beats) a long "o" in Japanese as well.

  • I'v noticed that in your older LPs you sound a bit bored unlike your current LPs where you talk with more energy.

  • If you think Figaro is talented, then you should play dragon quest V. Flying castle=win.

  • I'm actually considering it, since they recently released the DS version.

  • Then you are full of just as much win.

  • Theres a flying castle in 4 and 6 aswell.

  • Funny how you almost said Figaro correctly then you "correct" yourself to say it wrong. Hahaha :-P (around 1:35)

  • But the question is, what do you think of Batman and Robin?

  • You are very honest HCBailly, and of course thats good.

And when i played the game recently, i used the thief knife on Locke, and it stole nearly every time, so i kinda like it.

  • I don't know why I use that expression so much, I'll be honest with you. :)

  • What's this benefit of having Edgar at the bottom? Does it make him more likely to get the first time?

  • During a pre-emptive strike, the bottom character goes first. Since Edgar can basically wipe out anything in one turn, I like him to be able to go first. Of course, it's not critical, because it doesn't happen very often.

  • Dude dude dadoo doo dude doodadadoodoodude! That should be HCBailey's themesong everytime he uploads videos. That themesong comes from Soul Blazer by the way!

  • Sasquatch is yeti is Bigfoot and are all fake.

  • or are they...?

  • no, they're about as real as astrology or the Loch Ness monster or giant man eating bugs living on the moon.

  • Isn't that last one a reference to a Jules Verne novel?

  • It wasn't intended as such. or maybe I heard it somewhere and don't remember the source. Couldn't tell you which.

  • ....why did you heal at the healing pot when you already slept in the bed in the weapon shop?

  • Sasquatche = Bigfoot

That what they are, like human monkey being, basically made up

  • Well what the hell is Tom Selleck then?

  • ....i was so shallow,i didnt even try flash,i never even knew that :(

  • Thats your third time saying you dont like seafood. Meh I rant about seafood everytime I see fish, except shrimp and tuna.

  • I didn't think you needed to heal up at the healing pot, you had already used that bed.

  • Now this is funny...My guide says that you can't get the Flash and Drill Tool at this moment, you get them later...the funny thing about this is that not only did HC buy them, but I did as well...LOL...I'm sure many of you other people playing along with HC have done the same thing...what a joke...LOL...

Sabin finally got up to level 15...I thought I could pull it off during the battle at Narshe, but I was wrong...and he leveled up fighting a weak enemy (1 leafer).

  • 6:00... idk mabie if twins were born the first one out would be the future king.... :)

    love your vids

  • next video is going to be a tear jerker. yay, i love that rachel's theme.

  • the Thief Knife allows Shadow to use steal, pretty good if you want another chance to have someone steal items from monsters until a certain character comes into play

  • You know, in medieval times Polish kingdom was divided into 5 districts, but it came out pretty bad... I just had to say that. Sorry for bad english. Oh, another great episode btw.

  • I think Edgar and Sabin are in their late 20's, so they probably wouldn't look much different for a game sprite. I don't know.

  • Sasquatch is the technical term for Big Foot: it's the real name for a fake thing.

  • This is Figaro the Desert Castle

  • yeti are Mitchael creatures the live in the mountains of greenland. They are like bigfoot.

  • I heard that HCBailly has a "secret passage" to his kingdom through his closet.

  • You forgot about how fast they went through the sand also. That distance would be an insane amount to travel that fast.

  • what do tinctures do?

  • Heals 50 MP, it's your basic ether potion in most other FF games.

  • Splitting a kingdom up amongst heirs used to be a fairly common practice. It usually ended up being a stupid decision since it left both places weaker, but people did it.

  • Even after playing this game repeatedly, I always made it a point to have Edgar and Sabin in my party so I could watch this scene..and to get a nice discount on Flash and Drill, which are almost game-breaking at this point.

  • I love how you got pissed at Sabin for him having the sprint shoes relic equipped. I liked Batman Forever too.

  • 1:39 = Insta-win

    I'm surprised you missed that.

  • 1:39 Censored F-bomb. XD

  • 8:43 - A-Team reference :D (well, at least a reference to B.A ^_^)

  • I like that scene with Edgar & Sabin, it's pretty touching, although I agree, they probably could've altered their sprites to at least make them look younger. But, the song that plays, "Coin Song," is just an amazing version of the Figaro theme. Of course, there is another part to this "scene" a little later on, after meeting a certain character.

  • Yeah, the sasquatch isn't real; it's like a bigfoot/yeti-like creature. I think the word comes from one of the languages of the native peoples around here (here being Vancouver, Canada). Actually, one of the Olympic mascots for the 2010 Olympics here is Quatchi the Sasquatch.

There are historical incidents of partition of a kingdom or empire amongst a monach's sons, although often it didn't turn out too well. Primogeniture is more effective, or in some cases, election from an elite group.

  • what about mog? I thought you could visit him now. This is a great game. 2 kings does not work well. wow people don't want to be king because freedoms better.

Edgar sat on his ass for 10 years and messed with women XD!

Flash is magic based and owns.

  • With the 2 kings bit. In the olden days, kingdoms were split into counties (or, atleast in England). A knight would own the county and the king would own the knight. If there were two kings, they would probably split the counties 50/50

  • 6:56 Batman forever. LOL! i like the scene the best ever.

  • Ahh so this is the first Final Fantasy Games With Moving Buildings wow thats awesome

  • Nope. In FF2, the Cyclone held a fortress inside, making that a moving building

  • And then there's the Flying Fortress in FF1. I'd guess that's moving.

  • that scene with sabin as you're walking in the castle was hilarious, HC.

    great work as always, too.

  • I always loved that cutscene because Sabin is my favorite character while Edgar is one of my favorite characters.

  • Ancient Sparta had two kings at once, but I don't think they were usually brothers.

  • HCBailly, are you going to return to Veldt to learn new Rages any time soon? I realize that right now, the path to get there and back is pretty convoluted, but do you think it's worth it in the long run?

  • If you have, say, the Marshal Rage, that's all you'll really need for now. It's not worth the trip right now. Soon enough you'll have a reason to take such a path if you choose so, and if not, there's an easier way to go anywhere soon enough.

  • I think it's worth it if you're playing an emulated version and can fast forward your way to the Veldt and back, but I think Aspik is the only rage worth getting at this point if you choose to go that route.

  • I'll be going back there later. Not right now.

  • Sabin is the most powerful character in the game. why? Because HE CAN SUPLEX A TRAIN!

  • While it's chasing him!

  • Sasquash is Tenacious D's drummer!?

  • Sasquatches in lores are giant hairless Yeti type Beings decended from them.

How I know this I havent a clue xD.

  • that is a puzzler

  • knowing is half the battle!!!

  • wats the other half

  • G.I.Joe!

  • your voice sounds different in this one.

  • free beds everywhere o.o"

  • We learn something new everyday!

  • exactly and a sasquash is like bigfoot
