  • Espléndido trabajo.

  • Yo creo que el gobierno español debería dar el Premio Principe de Asturias a Georgina Zobel de Ayala

  • ilocanos, kapampangan, visaya dialects and mindanoa dialect dese are minority language.so as tagalog i think. so why the government made it the national language. it wud be nice to bring the old language bak, but soz guys it will not happen and english is something we have to stick to. pitty we have lost a part of our identity.

  • maintaining the spanish language shud have been rescue long tyme ago. cos look at it even tagalog use spanish language to start of and now english to extends our vocabularly. and will continue to do so. the post war government didnt made a good decision. cant blame them though.

  • speaking spanish is not really hard to learn like english. matter of fact similarities in words. so loosing spanish language was completely bad to be honest. our language tagalog hasnt even have enough words, therefore we steal some of the modern language from english and spanish, and even speaking tagalog we use long words and now getting so unfamiliar we cant even understand it . the only downside is if we bring the spanish language back, it will be hard to do and i suggest stick to english.

  • I think its true that instead of sticking of wat filipinoes had during that time, we just have to go back to the dark ages. imagine wat the spanish language can give us as well as speaking english. Business to the whole world and understanding. Wat we inherited during that time shud have been maintained. look at us these days, we dont even know our identity. identity as in a complete identity. we don know wer to put ourselves, cos we are completely lost

  • you know what guys.. sterlingtaste has a point. just widen your horizon

  • Im agreed! (hehehe da inglis en pilipins) Estoy de acuerdo! (mejor dicho)

  • does anyone here have information and pictures of JAZA's daughters..?

  • We should stop trying to separate what is Asian and what is Caucasian; even though we don't speak Spanish, the core values of our culture (and I'm referring to Filipino culture today) still have strong Spanish influences in them. And let's say we do try to separate ourselves or try to live in denial of what happened, it doesn't do us any good either. We have a beautiful country with a rich heritage, and we should appreciate it as it is today and not linger on past pains or grievances.

  • Whether we like it or not, Spanish is an intertwined part of our culture, and we don't have to be Spanish or mestizo to appreciate it; because it's something that is in our culture. Learning another language encourages trade and economy with other countries, namely Spain and Latin America, and allows us to read the documents from the Independence movement ("Lupang Hinirang" is actually a Tagalog translation of the original anthem adopted from the poem "Filipinas" by José Palma).

  • The thing that I don't understand the most is how many Filipinos hate the Spanish yet patronize the Americans, even though the Americans also colonized us and were sometimes just as racist against the Filipinos as the Spanish were. We really should be more open-minded and should judge a person not by what country they are from or what their country represents or used to represent, but by what they believe in and what they did.

  • Very true, not to mention that the americans actually killed more filipinos than the spaniards. Spanish culture is embedded in the philippines whether we like it or not. i think our spanish culture should be celebrated

  • I agree. We need to stop focusing on race. NO race is pure anymore; one can claim that Caucasians (Spanish and American) did wrong to us, but they also did wrong to each other (Greeks and Romans to native peoples of Europe, Asians to Europeans and the peoples of the Middle East through the Mongolian conquests, etc.), so technically ALL are at fault - everyone's ancestors has more or less done wrong to each other throughout history.

  • It is ridiculous and pointless to try and hold grudges against the ancestors of people who have done nothing wrong today, because if we continue the hate then the cycle will never end and we will keep having wars and genocide. I agree that we should not forget about the bad things that were done to us, but we should also learn how to forgive and to celebrate the cultural contributions that make our heritage as rich as it is today.

  • Whether we are of Austronesian, Han Chinese, Caucasian, African, or some mixture of the above, if we are raised by our parents in the culture that we know and feel to be that of a Filipino, then we are ALL Filipinos inside, regardless of how we look on the outside.

  • Generally those filipinos who justify their hate for spaniards because of what their ancestors did in the past really just have their own insecurities about themselves and inability to accept their own race. This is typical among many groups of people in other parts of the world. Many filipinos celebrate their spanish influenced heritage because they see it for the contribution it has made for our people, and how filipinos have taken these cntributions and shaped it to fit their own culture.

  • Jose Rizal, our national hero, was more native Filipino and Chinese than Spanish, but he also mastered the Spanish language and used it to raise awareness of the injustices the Spanish clergy against the native populations in the Philippines. And our rich cuisine, we have both the Fukien Chinese and the Spanish to thank for that.

  • My point is that it is not right to claim that all the Spanish mestizos were bad people; my grandmother's father was also Spanish-mestizo and was the first civil governor of Zambales and he provided for all the people in his province, using his status to care for the villagers, taking them to the hospital himself and paying for their health care.

  • When the Japanese occupied the Philippines in WWII, my grandmother's first husband, a Fil-Mestizo, sacrificed his life to free Filipino and American guerilla fighters that were POW's of the Japanese, and eventually ended up getting captured and killed.

  • However, on the other hand, it is also true that many of the Filipinos that fought for our independence against Spain AND the Americans (when they would not let us have independence right away) WERE Fil-Hispanic mestizos. Many of them died for their country feeling as Filipino as any other, and merely used their "higher position" to their advantage in overthrowing the colonial establishments.

  • I think it's quite unfortunate that some of us cannot take the good things out of past events and keep focusing on the bad. It is true that the Philippines, albeit a Spanish colony for 333 or so years, had a unique situation compared to Latin America, in that the Spaniards did not come in large waves, did not intermix with very much of the population, and instead forbade teaching Spanish to them after realizing that natives from different language groups could not talk to each other.

  • sounds like european spanish accent...

  • You just farted in front of the whole world, you stinky bitch! Filipina women are demure & don't fart in public - they fart only in the privacy of their own bedrooms or inside the toilet. They don't even fart in front of their husbands and children. Wala kang delikadesa, bruha! Go to your beloved Spain and have a farting contest with your fellow Spaniard women there, you cheap slut!

  • is that Gloria Arroyo at 4:45?

  • anger and regrets would only drag our country down. that's history and we just have to accept and value our 333 years of hispanic heritage. look at the brighter side, learn from the past and build from it.

  • Our hero, Rizal, wrote his novels in Spanish. The same novels that sparked the revolution. The revolution that helped our country achieve independence. Even during the last minutes of Rizal, he wrote his farewell poem in Spanish.

  • Remember that the Americans were also our colonizers. They also oppressed the Filipinos, but they stayed only for 48 years. If they stayed for 333 years in the Philippines, I guess Filipinos would also hate them as much as many Filipinos hate the Spaniards. Honestly, I'd rather be a Spaniard than be an American. We have so much Hispanic heritage in our country. It's only fitting that we also give credits to Spain.

  • Remember that during those times, the Spaniards did not want the Filipinos to learn Spanish because they wanted the "Indios" to be ignorant forever - that way they would be easier to enslave & control. And now here you are putting Spain on a pedestal and giving them credit(!) for this so-called Spanish heritage. Do you have any self-respect? I think the only reason you want to speak & write Spanish is so you can feel superior to the average Filipino. Why don't you to immigrate to Spain?

  • actually, im a filipino living in spain and id suggest any filipino to come here. they have rich culture and they are interested in hispanic culture in the philippines. sorry to say it, but the philippines is such a shithole because of its government.

  • you idiot, you have no idea what the hell a siesta is. a "siesta" occured in the 1970s because many people had to have two jobs in order to support their families. the siesta was the break between two jobs. stop trashing spanish people AND filipino people, you moron. filipino people are extremely hard working.

  • once again, you poor piece of trash, youre wrong. i'm here for a semester learning spanish and im from the states (also my father is american, and damn proud of it). and am i wrong about the siesta? prove it. last time i checked spain has one of the fastest growing economies in spain and the average gsdp is about 30,000+ plus a year. i hardly consider that lazy.

  • You needed 2 postings to respond to 1 of mine? Stupid idiot! You just insulted millions of Filipinos. The indigenous Aetas -- dark, short and flat-nosed they may be, took up arms in the 1800s & helped the Filipino revolutionaries kick out Spain & liberate their motherland. They should be revered -- they don't deserve to be insulted especially by a depraved bastard like you who has a pedophile serial-killer Caucasoid for a father & a brown slut fucking-machine for a mother. You are fecal matter!!

  • hahha still jealous of us? funny thing is you need places like youtube to talk trash, because any american or spaniard would kick your short, brown ass in a heartbeat. it´s filipinos like you who the world laughs at because you have no sense of culture, just hate for people who you wish you could be. now shut up and go clean my kitchen, jungle boy.

  • Why would anyone want to be a filthy bastard like you? And don't insult your mother: she may be short, dark, flat-nosed, kinky-haired & lived in the forest, but her ancestors fought valiantly against Spain. Respect her: you look very much like her. It's your savage Caucasoid father who should be hanged: he came from a long line of murderers, child-rapists, serial killers & Satanists; he's got those evil genes & passed them on to you. You're lower than my feces & I'd flush you down the toilet.

  • stiiiil jealous. by the way, my mom is quite tall... unfortunately for you, my grandfather is mixed. its pretty obvious too because she could probably squash your short ass. stop hating us, please. i we get more attention and glory then you hateful, jealous, ugly midgets who resemble cat shit, but it's not our faults, ok? stop hating white people, you're only hurting yourself with something you cant help :).

  • At 5'7", I'm 1 inch taller than Tom Cruise, you fugly idiot! I have lighter skin than you do & my eyes aren't chinky, you stinky cretin! You hate Asians bec. they're 1000x smarter than you! Do you know why you look like shit? Bec. your mother is a Philippine aborigine & your father is a Caucasoid Neanderthal! BTW I have seen your video here & you are obviously a flaming faggot! I bet you're AIDS-infected. My 6-yr. old nephew who's taking karate can kick your & your father's ass anytime, moron!

  • ah poor boy, you're one of those "i hate spaniards!" filipinos, because you are, apparently, insecure with your midget like features, dark brown skin, and flat face. see the thing is, many filipinos are beautiful and comfortable in their own skin, but it's filipinos like you who trash anyone who thinks a cultural heritage is worth preserving.

  • YOu know what the Philippines needs,? Another war. Lets fight China for the spratlys, and malaysia for sabah, lets invade singapore since those guys there annoy me, and taiwan while were at it. If we don't end up dead after all that fighting, we'd be the most powerful country in the world. Godd idea, I know.

  • wow. get out of the internet cafe and get a fuckin life, you loser. the philippines needs a war? what you need to do is shut the hell up and learn a little about filipino culture. when a filipino is proud of his/her heritage, idiots like you say they´re enviosu of whites. no, we´re not. YOU ARE. and by the way, my kitchen is still waiting to be cleaned. bilis!

  • @misabellem yea we are the only meztiso in asia!! %65 MEZTISO - %35 indio/malay

  • anong drama mo hija? hala sige, dwell on the past. every elementary-educated pinoys know your point pero may magagawa ka ba? despise and kill all spaniards? haha! is that what you want. grow up hija.

  • look who's talking. you have the tongue of a hissing snake. if i'm dog, you're a big PIG baskin' in your american master's crap. 'yan ang totoo. you'll eat your words you bitter narrow-minded self-righteous freak. go cringe in shame because of your own shame.

  • No, I did not insult Filipinos working overseas - you did: you automatically assumed all Filipinos in the U.S. have American masters. You have no reasoning power at all. And no, I don't make you fart; what makes you fart is your constant diet of rotten camote coupled with your extreme talkativeness. Maybe when you were younger, you ate a lot of pig's vagina.

  • Hope that the Filipino Hispanic Heritage continues in the Philippines,It's sad if this will disipate. And people should not think that this is elitist. No, it's not, it's our Heritage as Filipinos.Viva Las Filipinas!!!

  • impressive! kudos to premio zobel and filnet!
