  • This is the proof that music never gets old.

  • OMG this make me wan 2 play Assassin's Creed!!! xD

    Thumbs up for irony.

  • love medieval music! makes me feel im at home :)

  • Medieval Viols are very beautiful, what a shame they are archaic! Imagine how real 13th c. musicians would have extended this ductia for about 10-20 minutes with improvisation!

  • What? oneof those fucking video game producers uses this as "background music"? what blasphemy. Screw "assassins creed."

  • c'est une musique qui me parle au plus profond de moi ! ça ne s'explique pas!!

  • merci, bonne journée

  • pues está chido no?

  • Due to the fact that in contemporary culture are a lot of elements of ancient times, more people are somehow beginning to nostalgia for those days. I wonder what this is?

  • I'm not saying there's no fun allowed, but I HATE how EVERY video with medieval or classical music has comments like "OMG this make me wan 2 play Assassin's Creed!!! xD".

I hope people can see this as more than "video game background music".

  • @BestCoolGuy22

    I totally agree with you

  • @BestCoolGuy22 Yes, Assassin's Creed is wonderful, but I grew up with all kinds of music, including medieval, so I naturally adore this music already. <3

  • Hmm,.. beautiful ;)

  • thanks

  • Bitte!

  • What type of mollenhauer is that? Is it the Kynseker "C"? I know in the medieval/early renaissance the recorders were keyless...

  • Kynseker soprano yes indeed

  • Is this composition a contrapunct, polyphony or something else?

  • no not really contrapunct

  • This may be classified as homophonic. The parts are played relatively the same with regard to rythm (with some minor embelishments) with the 2nd viol applying dyadic structure within varying intervals. Counterpoint is often heard more in Baroque era compoisitons (think Bachs Fuga no 17) where the voices all have independent rythmic structures, although it did exsist in the Renaissance period around 1400 Anno and earlier. This is a Baroque Viol played alongside a ren.(cylindrical) recorder.

  • @StringedStrumpet Ok, thanks a lot :-)

  • Medieval music is better and more demanding than any classical piece. Comparing this to Lady Gaga should be a crime.

  • @PTR131 Even mentioning this name is disgusting. Maybe next time say Lady G. but anyway such comparison is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned

  • @PTR131 well, i think even a Lady Gaga has a purpose in this world. such "artists" show us clearly the difference between genuine, good music that touches the heart - and superficial unauthentic commercial bullshit

it´s up to everyone which kind of music they want. ppl who are really interested about music, listen to genres like classic music, medieval music, world music, jazz, blues, etc.

if ppl are not interested in good music, Lady Gaga is all they´ll get. and that´s all they deserve

  • This is music in its own right - that game composers have ripped off such pure and colourful work is more the pity.

  • @uberaschung

Which game composers have ripped this off? :O

  • I like medieval music in that it is able to very serious and dramatic, yet still be uplifting.

  • what kind of flute was used? It sounds really nice

  • It's probably me, but I think it should have a better flow - don't get me wrong, this is bloody fascinating, but I don't think I like it how it flows...

  • Lovely , i like it .. it could be suitable in a medieval movie as an intro or music in the back ground of a movie scene.. :-)

  • yes sure, I think so too

  • :)

I enjoy hearing this kind of music. :D It makes me thinks of Legend of Zelda and Lord of the Rings. :D

  • yes sure, me too

  • @NeoWaraNingyo It absolutely DOES NOT make me think of a video game. You need to think deeper than Japanese video games.

  • @omgdudeitsjavi3 Oh, okay then. Good for you. I don't really care if it does not make you think of a Video Game. That's you that was me. Whetever, who cares? I surely don't. That's why I said: "It makes me THINK of Legend of Zelda"- That doesn't necesarily mean that it is LIKE LoZ. Damn. People have diffrent thoughts. Jeez.

  • @NeoWaraNingyo good for you but there is a lot of more in world's history than Hollywood movies. Have you ever been to Europe? i.e. there are over 2000 castles in Spain alone, add the ones in France, Italy, Germany, England etc... :)

  • Very well done! Wonderful!

  • Thanks!

  • This is really very beautiful, there's something 'soothing' about this piece and how you have presented it. Lovely!

  • This and Lady Gaga are very different. XD

  • think so too

  • i saw a carving of a royal court, (possibly Charlemaignes father), and there were about 40 violin players! and holding the violins like in the picture! all sitting in two big semi circles on either side of the ruler. im sure instrument this was adopted from the Moors!

  • the viol comes from the arabic rebab ...

  • Awesome music!

  • This old music is very beautiful . *****J.C.

  • yes sure, I love it too!

  • Thanks, Danke!

  • Wou whats that instrument! I've never seen violin played like that and with 6 strings! What a giant gap in my general knowledge... Very nice music.

  • nice instrument, isn't it?

  • Great music.

I think the group Ars Musica, under Noah Greenberg, played this piece in their rendition (1960?) of the 12th- or 13th-century "Ludus Danielis" (Play of Daniel, in Latin from the OT Book of Daniel). I think this music was the introit or prelude.

  • @f5procopius another version: watch?v=wa0IN02qoJI

  • Wonderful!! I played treble and tenor viols for a time back in the 70's as well as the recorders and crumhorns. Great post!

  • Thanks (also for subscribing!)

  • Beautiful music

  • thanks, I like this music too, I have to look for some similar work soon

  • thy has pleaseth me

  • I thank thee

  • It is, "Thou hast pleased me" lol :) Thou dost indeed play well Ernststolz!

  • Great music. The kind I like. No comparison with the rap of today.

  • @heniek67 not rap more like crap

  • @dasgilde Rap=retards attempting poetry ;P

  • @Atamv You're an idiot. This man possible is Brasilian, here what you call Hip-Hop we call Rap.

  • @luizfcavalcanti Whats ur point? Why am i an idiot?

  • @heniek67 - rap is uninspired rubbish for the most part. Few rap songs will survive the ages like Classical music...or even Jazz and Blues and Rock.

  • @heniek67 haha i love how you compare the medieval music to one genre of today, as if theres no such thing as good rap, or no other genres of today that are terrible

  • awsome i am greatful that you download this music video thansk and cheers mate

  • I am glad you like it!

  • super!

  • thanx!

  • Wow.

  • Thanks!

  • Amazing

  • Thanks!

  • Amazing!!!!

  • Thanks, perhaps I should play more of this music...

  • Yes, you should!

  • Spectaculair!

  • name of the flute?

  • im looking for this one song its liike war

  • Musica bellisima! gracias por mostrarla!

Realmente nos transporta al siglo XIII

  • I've been listening to this non stop for the past week since ive found it. It says so much for medieval times. It is entirely graceful and haunting, with echos of the mind they held in those days gone by. It really speaks to me. It helps me concentrate and tune into myself.

10/10 for putting this up! Thankyou.

  • Thanks for this nice comment!

  • Very nice music! Thank you!!!

I've heard it in a disk many years ago... But it was not short piece of music like here, but this melody was included in big medieval opera about prophet Daniel. lt was in first part. I think if you listened to it you would like.... I remember I was impressed :))

  • Where can i listen to the opera about the prophet daniel?

  • i don't know... in my home maybe :D ? i have an old disk. it was recorded in 1970s.

i haven't seen it on youtube.

  • great!

  • Thanks!

  • is it holland original medieval composition or your own one?

  • It is medieval, but not Dutch.

  • transcendental...

  • EPIC ! thanks man ^^

  • ethereal, magical

  • Makes me feel happy!

  • Life can be quite uncomplicated sometimes!

  • @recorderdevoix makes me happy + nostalgic ;)

  • Happy holidays, as always, thank you for giving us your generous videos.

  • You're welcome!

  • Wasn't this piece performed by Alia Musica or Ensemble P.A.N. on one of their disks?

  • Mediaeval music is interesting. Do you find it harder to perform though?

  • Not harder then music of any other period. It is not the age of the music what makes it difficult.

  • Bravo !

Best whishes for this feast period !

    Friendly,

    Val

  • Je suis toujours enchanté avec un commentaire de toi, merci!
