"It's a mad house, a mad house!!!" In those days, Chuck was a pro gun-control advocate, and someone who had marched with Dr. King for civil rights. It must have been the Soylent Green that changed him. Seriously though, does anyone know why Heston's political views changed? Was it one or a few events, or an evolution of views over time? I disagreed with Heston's politics later in life, but one thing I can say is that I thought Heston became a better actor when he went to the right.
Not to mention Ronald Reagan as well. I would guess the reason is because (1) most thoughtful, reflective peoples views change over time anyways (whether to the right or left.) and (2) The democratic party changed in the 60's. JFK in the early 60's sounded a lot like Reagan in the 80's in terms of anti-communism and militarism. However by the late 60's the democratic party had become the home of the counter-culture.
The democrat were always liberal, they didn't change in the 1960's. The Republican party was always conservative, you claim that the GOP were liberal prior to 1960's is completely false. You're just saying that becuase of the embassment you have for supporting the party of JIm crow and opposition to women rights.
mike moore should rot in hell for what he does to people to further his "I hate America" agenda. Libertains are not racist, in fact, they're the least racist people out there. Those most likely to be racist are far-left wackos like Mike Moore, they just are masters at lying about their endless bigoted hypocrisy. Granted far-right wackos are also racist, but they are truthful and non-hypocritical about it.
Michael "Moore" fries, cheeseburgers, carbs, shakes, pizzas, bull, hate, fat, calories, pork rinds... Hey Mike, how long do you think it would have taken Ted Kennedy to have his emergency tumor operation if he lived in a country with socialized medicine like Cuba???? Oh yeah, he would have had of come to America for the operation......
John "Three Checks" McCain claims to be fit enough to be president, but gets a disability check from the NAVY.
He also gets a government check from the SENATE, although he has the worst attendance record in the senate.

GJ guys, and I'm sorry every one of your videos turn into a political or constitutional debate, but maybe it's not as terrible as I once thought. It certainly keeps things interesting (not that your videos need it lol).
A well regulated militia is necessary to secure a "free state". AND the right of the people to keep arms shal not be infringed. AND the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed.
I believe that this covers more than one area in regards to gun ownership. The "state" should have a well regulated militia in order to protect it's citizens. Also, I may keep (own) and bear (carry) my .45. What part of "Shall NOT be infringed" is so hard to understand?
Up north . They have more space. It's colder too. To keep cool and not as many go off the deep end to murder each other like down here. Let us have our guns. We will need them when the NUKES come.
Are you stupid? That's in reference to Planet of the Apes...the movie?! The man marched for civil rights. I won't defend him on any other count beyond that.
I think what the song said was if the civil right marchers had been carrying guns the police would not have turned the hoses on them. If you think that police brutality was a good thing and helped the civil rights movement then the song is anti-civil rights. However, if you think police use of firehoses to break up the marches was bad then the song is pro-civil rights. The NRA contends that it is defending the civil rights of the people to own guns. You decide.
The Civil Rights movement occured over 40 years ago... the righteous side won there as well.

Heston lived life with his passion on his sleeve! Working each day towards what he believed was right. How many of us can say that we succeeded in making our dreams our passion and making our passion our lives. Nice work! Blessings... E!
The man is a legend from his work in film and all anyone has to talk about is his views on gun control. You need to go back and watch planet of the apes and remember why he is a legend in the first place.
They say lizard Michael Moore was not fit to lace up Charlton Hestons shoe laces! That pathetic excuse for a human being can't even bend over and tie up his own God damn laces! M.R Heston and the likes of ole'Duke Wayne were just actors, despite what those who hate them and us think, we never thought for a second that they could do in real life what they did in their movies they were our"imaginary" heroes, yet they lived their real lives with dignity and weren't afraid to say, I love my country.
Easily one of the absolute best RedStateUpdates yet!! Can't say I ever liked Heston much at all, but even if I had, I still think I would this video hilarious. You guys greatly deserve all of your accolades; this is pure comic genious. Keep up the amazing work!!
Hey, get with the times. Many liberal politicians are now in support of gun rights. I find myself on the left of most social issues (like civil rights, reproductive rights, freedom of speech, separation of state and church). But I also believe in gun rights - only if to keep the long nosed republicans off my porch. There's a new breed of liberals in America - the kind that will shoot conservatives in the head (with our constitutionally protected firearms).
It's scary how liberals see the conservatives as the enemy and want to shoot them. Save your ammunition for the real threat, those who want to take away the AMERICAN way of life, and your life. Bye. No more of this nonsense for me. You can have the final say because you know what they say arguing with a fool
Hopefully you'd only do that in a self-defense situation, as opposed to an "oh noes, the paperboy is a 'long-nosed Republican,' better shoot him!" type of situation.
He was a great man. And while I don't really support the NRA and don't think guns should be easily accessible to the general population, I figured while the Republican party exists, we should keep our guns to protect ourselves & our civil rights should the time come when the republicans would like to take even more of our freedoms away. Liberals gotta remember that freedom & civil rights are worth defending, even with a gun if we have to.
Yeah, the REPUBLICANS are taking away your freedoms. Keep an eye on the Middle East and who really wants to take away your freedom and your LIFE. I'm sure the liberals are going to protect us from that threat.
And why exactly do they want to do that? Have you ever questioned why? Why do the terrorists "hate America".
Probably has nothing to do with our involvement over there for the last couple of decades, and probably even less to do with our support of Israel, which has forced many Palestinians out of their homes.
I am a republican's worst nightmare . . . a liberal with a gun! You don't have to be afraid of the liberals taking away your 2cd amendment right to bare arms. The question should be are you mentally capable of owning a fire arm without the risk of doing others harm? But I think I answered my own question, republicans aren't mentally capable of much.
edanmilner - two things. First, I don't care what middle eastern fanatics believe - they have no power to take away my liberties, and will never be a greater threat to my life than traffic or every day local murder. Second, you have to look at the bigger picture - if you do believe they are a threat, the Republican policies are making them an even greater threat by giving them more reason to act and swelling their numbers.
Sigh. You -- and Angus McFlash and others -- need to stop buying into the media myth that we are the instigators. The Middle Eastern world (notice, I did NOT say terrorists) are a threat to our way of life. Read some books, such as: 1) Christianity and Islam: The Final Clash, 2) The Truth About Mohammed, Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion, 3) Infidel. Even though our involvement in the Middle East is largely misguided, we didn't start it. Get educated.
That said - I never said "we started it." The point I attempted to make is we need to consider how our actions create reactions. In my view, the actions of the current administration have made things dramatically worse. It's not about being an "instigator," it's about basic cause and affect and chosing a course of action that best suits our self-interest. Bush has done the opposite (except with regard to corporate revenue).
Wow, hold up a sec there cowboy. If you believe, even for a min, that the entire region of the planet is a threat to our way of live, you need to move to the moon. We're strong enough to prevail against any threat, terrorist or cultural - and do so without sacrificing our civil rights or the human rights of others. And the middle east (the source of wealth for the Bush/Cheney & the Reps). They're in bed with the enemy, according to you. According to me, reps are just dumb & dems have to step up.
Yes, and what happens when we try to prevail against a threat? We are accused of being instigators and occupiers. You're trying to argue both sides and I'm not going to buy it. I'm just going to BYE it. So ... bye.
what? im sure hes a nice guy, but dont give the man credit for the first amendment. 'people like him' are just people who have an opinion one way or another on the right to bear arms. come on now, have some sense.
edanmilner - just how is being anti-Heston being anti-American? I disagree with his views on the Second Amendment, and, frankly, don't know what his other views were. I liked his movies. How does any of that speak to my patriotism?
The Second Amendment reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." From a Founding Father perspective, if you are not in the stae militia, the Second Amendment has nothing to do with you. It was now about hunting, or home defense. It is a "no-brainer" to you only because you do not seem to know the facts.
Even if I am wrong, how does that make me un-American?
By the way, it's interesting that I'm out of my league with someone who doesn't know the definition of "militia" ... anyway, I thought I answered the un-American question. Charlton Heston was a champion for our American rights; you are against Heston; ergo ... well, if I have to spell it out for you, go back to Logics class.
i still agree with the other guy. i have nothing against heston as a person, but the idea of having to be for or against a person to be considered a proper american seems like the exact opposite of what our country is about. heston was definitely a controversial figure. he had a lot of people who supported him as well as were against him, and there are proud americans on both sides of this coin.
I love how anti-gun people like to believe the 2nd Amendment is the only part of the Constitution that limits the rights of the people, rather than the power of the government. It was written to assure nothing like the power structure of England would happen here. No aristocracy that ordered the people around, thus the people would be similarly armed as the military. Actually, that would imply law-abiding people deserve access to military armament, not hunting rifles, shotguns, and pistols.
Who said the Second Amendment limits the rights of the people? The question is whether it give people the unlimited right to keep weapons (and the real question posed above, and never answered, is how believing that it does not makes one un-American). The Second Amendment was very carefully worded. It contains the words "well regulated" militia. A bunch of individuals with guns do not make up a "well regulated" militia. Again, say I got it wrong, I'm now un-American?
sidiggy1-The Second Amendment: "well regulated"...who is going to do the regulating?...The Federal government? Where is our national guard...IRAQ and Afghanistan. Did we the people have any say in that? NO, Geo. Bush did and still does. The second amendment means the individual citizen has the right to keep and bear arms.
Townclowns - "well regulated" would be regulated by the state, given that the amendment refers to a "state militia."
Again, the point of my original post was not to debate the second amendment - I think reasoned minds can (and do) differ. My original post was in response to edanmiller saying "To be anti-Charlton Heston is to be anti-American." So, again, I ask, how does disagreeing with Heston's view of the Second Amendmant equate to being "anti-American"?
sidiggy1- My point being that a "well regulated militia" is not "the people", because ultimately it is controlled by the Federal government as demonstrated be the activation and deployment of our Natl. Guard. Your disagreement with Charlton Heston's views doesnt make you anti-American. I believe the 2nd Amendment means the individual law abiding citizen has the right to possess firearms, and that it does not mean that a government, no matter what level, has the authority to restrict that right.
So... What you're saying is that the people need to be kept unarmed UNTIL they need guns to protect themselves from the government. At which point, I'm sure the government will issue all of us arms, so we can fight back against an oppressive regime. The 2nd Amendment is about protecting ourselves from the government; not hunting, self-defense, or gun collecting. It's to keep the government aware that some semblance of "of the people, for the people, by the people" still exists.
I think we lost another of the Hollywood greats when Heston died. I for one loved him in Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments. I think he would've laughed at this video. I think he was a good person.

The man is a legend from his work in film and all anyone has to talk about is his views on gun control. You need to go back and watch planet of the apes and remember why he is a legend in the first place.

It's a shame that his aggressive stance on the Second Amendment became the focal point of his life (from the eye of the public).

They say lizard Michael Moore was not fit to lace up Charlton Hestons shoe laces! That pathetic excuse for a human being can't even bend over and tie up his own God damn laces! M.R Heston and the likes of ole'Duke Wayne were just actors, despite what those who hate them and us think, we never thought for a second that they could do in real life what they did in their movies they were our"imaginary" heroes, yet they lived their real lives with dignity and weren't afraid to say, I love my country.

get your gun control away from me you damn stinkin' liberal ape.
geargemartin 3 years ago 2
Hey, get with the times. Many liberal politicians are now in support of gun rights. I find myself on the left of most social issues (like civil rights, reproductive rights, freedom of speech, separation of state and church). But I also believe in gun rights - only if to keep the long nosed republicans off my porch. There's a new breed of liberals in America - the kind that will shoot conservatives in the head (with our constitutionally protected firearms).
dollaresque 3 years ago
It's scary how liberals see the conservatives as the enemy and want to shoot them. Save your ammunition for the real threat, those who want to take away the AMERICAN way of life, and your life. Bye. No more of this nonsense for me. You can have the final say because you know what they say arguing with a fool
edanmilner 3 years ago
I wouldn't shoot all conservatives, just a few dozen I can think of
casadyrocks 3 years ago
I'd have to reload several times, or use a specially adapted clip. But I'd get by with just the one gun.
IncredibleGoliath 3 years ago
Hopefully you'd only do that in a self-defense situation, as opposed to an "oh noes, the paperboy is a 'long-nosed Republican,' better shoot him!" type of situation.

Guns are OUR Right! The Right to bear arms...In the Constitution.
Scottishwench 3 years ago 4
He was a great man. And while I don't really support the NRA and don't think guns should be easily accessible to the general population, I figured while the Republican party exists, we should keep our guns to protect ourselves & our civil rights should the time come when the republicans would like to take even more of our freedoms away. Liberals gotta remember that freedom & civil rights are worth defending, even with a gun if we have to.
dollaresque 3 years ago
Yeah, the REPUBLICANS are taking away your freedoms. Keep an eye on the Middle East and who really wants to take away your freedom and your LIFE. I'm sure the liberals are going to protect us from that threat.
edanmilner 3 years ago
And why exactly do they want to do that? Have you ever questioned why? Why do the terrorists "hate America".
Probably has nothing to do with our involvement over there for the last couple of decades, and probably even less to do with our support of Israel, which has forced many Palestinians out of their homes.
AngusMcFlash 3 years ago
I am a republican's worst nightmare . . . a liberal with a gun! You don't have to be afraid of the liberals taking away your 2cd amendment right to bare arms. The question should be are you mentally capable of owning a fire arm without the risk of doing others harm? But I think I answered my own question, republicans aren't mentally capable of much.
wtfoof 3 years ago
edanmilner - two things. First, I don't care what middle eastern fanatics believe - they have no power to take away my liberties, and will never be a greater threat to my life than traffic or every day local murder. Second, you have to look at the bigger picture - if you do believe they are a threat, the Republican policies are making them an even greater threat by giving them more reason to act and swelling their numbers.
sidiggy1 3 years ago
Get educated.
edanmilner 3 years ago 2
You have a scary reading list.
That said - I never said "we started it." The point I attempted to make is we need to consider how our actions create reactions. In my view, the actions of the current administration have made things dramatically worse. It's not about being an "instigator," it's about basic cause and affect and chosing a course of action that best suits our self-interest. Bush has done the opposite (except with regard to corporate revenue).
sidiggy1 3 years ago
Wow, hold up a sec there cowboy. If you believe, even for a min, that the entire region of the planet is a threat to our way of live, you need to move to the moon. We're strong enough to prevail against any threat, terrorist or cultural - and do so without sacrificing our civil rights or the human rights of others. And the middle east (the source of wealth for the Bush/Cheney & the Reps). They're in bed with the enemy, according to you. According to me, reps are just dumb & dems have to step up.
dollaresque 3 years ago
Yes, and what happens when we try to prevail against a threat? We are accused of being instigators and occupiers. You're trying to argue both sides and I'm not going to buy it. I'm just going to BYE it. So ... bye.

To be anti-Charlton Heston is to be anti-American ... but at least people like him gave you the right to say whatever you want.
edanmilner 3 years ago 2
what? im sure hes a nice guy, but dont give the man credit for the first amendment. 'people like him' are just people who have an opinion one way or another on the right to bear arms. come on now, have some sense.
zoabeh 3 years ago
I'm not giving him any particular credit, just people who share his views about the basic rights on which this country was founded.
edanmilner 3 years ago
edanmilner - just how is being anti-Heston being anti-American? I disagree with his views on the Second Amendment, and, frankly, don't know what his other views were. I liked his movies. How does any of that speak to my patriotism?
sidiggy1 3 years ago
Heston was in favor of supporting the basic rights on which this country was founded. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
edanmilner 3 years ago 3
The Second Amendment reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." From a Founding Father perspective, if you are not in the stae militia, the Second Amendment has nothing to do with you. It was now about hunting, or home defense. It is a "no-brainer" to you only because you do not seem to know the facts.
Even if I am wrong, how does that make me un-American?
sidiggy1 3 years ago
Where do you think the militia comes from? Er, that would be me ... and you.
edanmilner 3 years ago
You are a member of the state militia? Really, which state? How often do you meet and train? What is your rank?
Please, don't debate the Second Amendment with me. You are out of your league.
But please do come back to my original question - how does my difference of opinion with you on this make me un-American?
sidiggy1 3 years ago
Yeah, you win. You know what they say about arguing with a fool.
edanmilner 3 years ago
By the way, it's interesting that I'm out of my league with someone who doesn't know the definition of "militia" ... anyway, I thought I answered the un-American question. Charlton Heston was a champion for our American rights; you are against Heston; ergo ... well, if I have to spell it out for you, go back to Logics class.
edanmilner 3 years ago
i still agree with the other guy. i have nothing against heston as a person, but the idea of having to be for or against a person to be considered a proper american seems like the exact opposite of what our country is about. heston was definitely a controversial figure. he had a lot of people who supported him as well as were against him, and there are proud americans on both sides of this coin.
zoabeh 3 years ago
I love how anti-gun people like to believe the 2nd Amendment is the only part of the Constitution that limits the rights of the people, rather than the power of the government. It was written to assure nothing like the power structure of England would happen here. No aristocracy that ordered the people around, thus the people would be similarly armed as the military. Actually, that would imply law-abiding people deserve access to military armament, not hunting rifles, shotguns, and pistols.
Karaokephile 3 years ago 3
Who said the Second Amendment limits the rights of the people? The question is whether it give people the unlimited right to keep weapons (and the real question posed above, and never answered, is how believing that it does not makes one un-American). The Second Amendment was very carefully worded. It contains the words "well regulated" militia. A bunch of individuals with guns do not make up a "well regulated" militia. Again, say I got it wrong, I'm now un-American?
sidiggy1 3 years ago
sidiggy1-The Second Amendment: "well regulated"...who is going to do the regulating?...The Federal government? Where is our national guard...IRAQ and Afghanistan. Did we the people have any say in that? NO, Geo. Bush did and still does. The second amendment means the individual citizen has the right to keep and bear arms.
Townclownsunite 3 years ago
Townclowns - "well regulated" would be regulated by the state, given that the amendment refers to a "state militia."
Again, the point of my original post was not to debate the second amendment - I think reasoned minds can (and do) differ. My original post was in response to edanmiller saying "To be anti-Charlton Heston is to be anti-American." So, again, I ask, how does disagreeing with Heston's view of the Second Amendmant equate to being "anti-American"?
sidiggy1 3 years ago
sidiggy1- My point being that a "well regulated militia" is not "the people", because ultimately it is controlled by the Federal government as demonstrated be the activation and deployment of our Natl. Guard. Your disagreement with Charlton Heston's views doesnt make you anti-American. I believe the 2nd Amendment means the individual law abiding citizen has the right to possess firearms, and that it does not mean that a government, no matter what level, has the authority to restrict that right.
Townclownsunite 3 years ago
