  • Hailing from Columbus I hail all great music from the Buckeye State. Cleveland is a true hellhole and only place that could have spawned The Dead Boys. Stiv,RIP.

  • I heard that a member of RFTT was in the Dead Boys- is that true?

  • Dude playing drums looks like Ted Danson

  • @theguitarczar dont know ted danson but that dude is johnny blitz

  • Ahhhh, Cheetah Chrome... living the good life now down South...

  • I think Pere Ubu is the best of the three. Just my opinion though.

  • Rocket From The Tombs is one of the best bands ever to exist. And therefore its children are too: Dead Boys and Pere Ubu.

  • Ah some of the comments are sure funny. GnR version better 'cos it's more 'refined'!? A bit sad if you have to take the edges of something like this. I think the DB's version is too 'studio', but this version cuts it, despite the vox recording. You notice the singer's not synced; must'v been for television i.e. pre-record the vocals, singer can't be fucked acting it - all respect to him. Check out the RFTT's version (better again), but this has lifted my opinion of Dead Boys no end

  • FUCKIN GREAT SONG DEAD BOYS 4EVA

  • So, how come Morrissey wrote these mysterious lines:

"The queen is DEAD BOYS, And it's so lonely on a limb." -?

-The Queen is Dead (The Smiths).

Is that pansy Mos calling Dead Boys poufs or somethin' ?!

    What's up with that?

  • @BadassMMA I couldn't disagree more. I've listened to both and this is more raw and gritty than GNRs version. Also, this isn't the original.

  • @misterE2012 Ok sorry for my ignorance. I guess Rocket from the tombs made the original. Well we agree to disagree on that.

  • @BadassMMA No worries, its pretty easy to mistake this one for the original. Two members of the Dead Boys were apart of the original line up of Rockets from the Tombs( Cheetah Chrome still plays with them).

  • @misterE2012 Yeah and we can't all have the same taste in music. I was just stating my opinion so it's all good :)

  • @BadassMMA I agree, music taste is subjective. I think it's pretty dumb to get in a fight(specially over the internet) over music. The world would be fairly boring if we all liked the same thing.

  • @misterE2012 Yeah we all dress different and have different jobs and have different opinions of things. Peace :)

  • @BadassMMA youre a fuckin tool mate

  • Is the singer gay?

  • Great thing about GNR is that they are the first to say how great the origonal is. Axl even says in the linar notes in the spagetti incident to do yourself a favour and go buy the origonals!!!!! GNR forever!!!

  • All these years and I never realized that Ted Danson was the drummer for the Dead Boys.

  • Ain't it fun when the connection's so slow, you can't hear what's sung

    Such fun Such fun

  • this comment has recieved too many negative votes

  • Who are originals ? GUns n Roses or this guys ?

  • @TheVilligo neither, check out rocket from the tombs ORIGINAL version her on you tube

  • Fucking right the Dead boys goin down in flames!

  • check out rocket from the tombs ORIGINAL version here on you tube.

  • @robin195959 im glad someone else knows about that

  • holy shit! ted dansen on drums.

  • @ddog49712 Right! LOL My God it looks like him!!

  • CLEVELAND BOYS!!!

  • I dunno what the argument is all about, but you have to be really retard to underestimate this band. Without them, gnr wouldn't have ever been, no matter which lineup you're talkin' about. The Dead Boys are all time classics, and a loved band to Axl and Duff.

  • lol fuck GNR r bettr thn dis shit

  • i was first introduced to this song through guns and roses greatest hits as much as i enjoy listening to that album, fuck it the original is better this tune kicks raw ass! coming from a 16 year old from london but i cant ever get enough of the dead boys they are extreme punk at its best they kick lady gagas ass!

  • Stiv Bators! Yeah!

  • wow, the red head almost has his guitar as low as slash

  • axl is a piece of shit fuckbag, the dead boys rock the shit out of gnr, gnr are a bloody vaginal belch compared to the dead boys-fuck gnr

  • @MrRobTyner grow up, dork.

  • @MrRobTyner urjust pissed because evry1 knows who GnR is but no1 knows who the fuck the dead boys are, wonder why that is :P

  • OMG!!! Dosent any of you GNR "haters" know what "Spaghetti Incident " was all about????? It was their tribute to "the old school" , and band that inspirate them!

Axl is a geni , but faggots dont get it.

  • @zimsen123 the spaghetti incident was all about axl's megalomania. It's a good record, but it sucks because they couldn't write together anymore. It's okay to like but it isn't for the purist gnr fan.

  • @TheFarnation what the fuck! it was a tribute record to there roots my roots maybe yours if your old enough. infact if it wasnt for that record bands like the dead boys, fear, and more would have dissapeared. purist GNR fan lets see what is that nothing after lies or maybe the demo tracks that steven and izzy played on for UYI1/2. dude bands evolve and grow, break up reform its like a nirvana purist not accept that little mexican guy as a member even though kurt said he was on MTV live

  • amazing how stiv went from this to lords of the new church?! he was the real fame monster-rip

  • both versions are great .

    ---

thats what i really love about old school rock, just do whatever the fuck you want

get drunk, take drugs, have sex, cover your favorite songs, rock world now is

exact the opposite, cops everywhere, and they arrested you for every little shit you do, theres' no fun like before ..

  • its fake vieo

  • @mulumbator its not, its extremely out of sync. but be thankful since this is the only live version i can find

  • it is FAKE video.

  • great

  • omg he looks so young here!

  • This song, believe it or not, is a cover. Rocket From The Tombs (Cleveland, OH band) did this song originally. Cheetah Chrome was in RFTT before starting Dead Boys with Stiv. RFTT would play this song at local shows, but Stiv made the song a hit. Why? Because he pretty much lived the lyrics, much more so that Peter Laughner (singer/songwriter for RFTT). Side note... Dead Boys original band name was Frankenstein. They changed the name 2 weeks after opening up for Ramones at Kent State.

  • @misfitsphreek watch?v=PExEDuGKDo4

  • @misfitsphreek

Peter Laughner died from acute pancreatitis, a condition associated with over imbibing in speed and alcohol, at age 24. He, unfortunately, embodied the very notion of the song.

Stiv Bator was hit and killed by a taxi at age 40.

  • @misfitsphreek I wouldn't really call it a cover. Cheetah wrote it and took it with him. I've done that with quite a few songs from my first band. Rocket from the Tombs were strictly a live band and never released an album til years after the Dead Boys broke up, so only Cleavland locals had ever heard the RTFT play it until 2002 when The Day the Earth Met RFTT came out.

  • @rjfait Pete Laughner wrote it and RFTT easily kills the Dead Boys.

  • Comment removed

  • @rjfait who cares about you and your band!!! RFTT did it first peter laughner wrote it with cheetah so this IS a cover even if RFTT only played in their bedroom.

  • @robin195959

    F*** u , pleaz. I was there.

  • @limasierradelta666 WTF are you talkin about?

  • fuck yea, i love g n r's version and now this one 2!

  • ugh. I had to listen to the real thing for a few seconds after sufferin my way through that guns and posers version.

  • Some geezer just HAD to talk in the middle of the tune.

  • me caga que hasta hoy supe que guns toca esta rola haora se la verdad!!!

  • How about instead of telling everyone else which bands suck you all listen to the fucking song.

  • Excellent!

  • r.i.p Stiv.

  • DOST DOBREJ SONG MILUJU HO

  • fuggin hate gunsnroses! miss stiv and todd crew! rest in peace my friends...

  • If you can't see the influence Cheetah Chrome (and Stiv) had in Gun's n Roses, you're just merely a "listener" don't have a fuckin' clue.+ Next clue - Johnny Thunders

  • Hey its all about one band inspiring the other! My guess is ole Axl & them were doing a musical TRIBUTE! 2 THE DEAD BOYS!

  • Best band in the whole fucking world.

  • GnR did a great cover of this...RIP Stiv...Check out The Lords of The New Church...Bator all the way.

  • @Smythcycle Guns and roses are the worst fucking band out there. but i agree lords of the new church kick ass.

  • FUCK GUNS N ROSES. THIS BELONGS TO THE DEAD BOYS YOU STUPID FUCKING HAIR METAL STYLE/SONG BITING CUNTS. theyr, i think ive explained my point.

  • @6Goat6Skrote6

belongs to the dead boys?? nobody in the dead boys even wrote it. now go listen to "it's so easy" or "my michelle" and tell me guns n roses suck....

  • @belsen89 Guns and Roses does suck. Axle Roses voice sounds like a cat drowning in the shit thats the rest of the bands music.

  • @belsen89 uhhh cheetah chrome wrote this version, and yeah....gnr still getting their knees dirty ; ]

  • don't you get it, GNR on Spaghetti Incident wanted you to find about bands they like

  • @Ugot2WhyMe Nice......exactly.

  • Rocket from the Tombs wrote this masterpiece. GnR can suck it

  • its good but GNR owns it

  • @GosHUPandaren even though GNR is my favourite band ive gotta back up the dead boys on this

the rawness of it is just awesome

  • GNR fucked up. This isn't a "version" It's the real deal. GNR covered it, and fucked it up.

  • @GO77AMA No, GNR didn't even sing it on their CD, it was Michael Monroe from Hanoi rocks so ha

  • @GO77AMA WTF¡ hey kids¡ AWW¡ LOVE IS IN THE AIR?

  • it is good

  • I cannot think of a sadder sounding guitar....the song is a sad one and the guitar work Cheetah Chrome does conveys the agony of self destruction. I wish there was a better copy of this performance

  • thats a classic punk rock right there man...

thats real old good music.. SEND IT!!!

  • All respect to these guys for writing such a cracking tune. I rarely enjoy covers more than an original version, but I am I the only one who thought this track was the stand out on The Spaghetti Incident. I find the GN'R version very sensitive and even darker in tone than the original. Also how many of us looked this up only because we heard and enjoyed the cover version first. Be honest, thumbs up if you agree.

  • @Nabou1 i am 15 and being brought up on richard hell dead boys iggy the stooges, bad brains new york dolls. everyone. thumbs up if 70s punk was the shit

  • @Nabou1

i was a major guns and roses fan. i never had this album, but i loved this song, i always thought it was one of their best. Great intro single-line playing by Slash, and the solo is mega, as are the lead lines during the last verse. i listen to g and r only occasionally now, but at least a few of their tunes have stood the test of time

  • fuck GNR and fuck the late 80's

  • @KRS1LEGEND more like late 90's when the guns n roses wrote it

  • id like to see the jonas bros. in the same room as these guys, stiv would beat the fuck out of tham

  • @bryjag1965 I'd pay to watch that! :0)!!!

  • there are no rules. do what you want, even if you're a ginger. fuck all the cunts.

  • @TheDouchesupreme pfffsh, ESPECIALLY if you're a fuckin' ginger!!

  • @TheDouchesupreme EVEN if you're ginger, you make it sound like a disability. May I remind you Dave Mustane is Ginger.

  • Another by Paul Tschinkel from his NYC cable show Paul Tschinkel's Inner-Tube. Taped at CBGB's in 1979. Give credit or take it off. Not cool!

Look for a better quality coming soon from Paul Tschinkel plus a rare interview with Stiv.

  • NO ME GUSTA.... (N)

  • Rule No1: If you're ginger, leave your shirt on

  • @srot77 Somehow I don't think Cheetah gives a good fuck about any rules.

  • @srot77 Somehow I don't think Cheetah gives a good fuck about any rules.

  • @lobotomyboy666 Cheetah? Cheeeetaaah? what a knob. Sorry, I just never got in to that borrowed attitude thing unless done with irony and a touch of humour. Tryimg far too hard for me.

  • @srot77 In the foreword to Cheetah's new autobiography (A Dead Boy's Tale), Legs McNeil writes that what he most liked about the Dead Boys was their sense of humor and that Cheetah was the funniest one of the bunch. After finishing the book I can see what he meant--Cheetah was one funny mother fucker. As for borrowed attitude, I think if anything Cheetah had the opposite problem. Most of the trouble he found was the result of keeping it too real.

  • @srot77 Rule No2: Punk is doing, saying and feeling whatever you want

  • Is that Ted Danson on the drums?

  • @everyone - thanks, I have been corrected multiple times - I now know they did not write it.

  • Guns is Dogshit!

  • @lemonsqueezermunich you're dogshit!

  • to BuccaneerDave, I agree,

I love GNR, but this version of song is greatest!

  • @splab123 hahahahah why wouldnt they exist >?

  • @hardrinker1989 no shit it was more "refined" this is live dipshit

  • SOMEONE PUT ROUTE 66 UP BY THEM

  • @MeanGreenMovies green day should quit...

  • i cant tell what year this is from, it looks like really old footage but the style of the song just couldnt have been 60s could it?

  • Respect for the The Dead Boys, but the Guns version is a WAY better!

  • Funny to know, that Joey ramone how helpt dead boys to make a record, its whas joey how came up whit that stiv should sing in a band, on their first album stiv wonted joey to prouduce the album but it diden't happend.

plus Rotten got hes look from mr Richard Hell and not stiv bators.

  • well aint it fun when you get so high well that you just cant come, that lyric describes me very very well, aint it fun when you know taht you gonna die young..

  • Супер!

  • Every wersion of this song is amazing. I don't really know what is in this song that make me very fucking excited, haah ;D Intro was made by God. Thank you God.

  • roll it back. Stiv. Don't be a muppet and talk about GnR, although plaudits for covering. this disjoint of audio and visual is perfect. I remember these days. It was part brilliance, part bravado and part stupdity. It was a joke. It was genius. It was fake and so very real. Nothing like today.

Chewing gum while singing. Classic, Stiv. Rotten didn't do as well.

  • Peter Laughner wrote this song in 30 seconds at a Rocket from the Tombs rehersal - cool huh?

  • @flakatak76 you don't need a rough sound to show turmoil idiot.

  • I only know this song because of GNR.

  • ....Ain't it fun when u'R taking care of number 1....

  • Stiv lives !!!

  • Comment removed

  • who gives a fuck about GNR?

  • @youknowwhatsupdudes

OMG! GNR are Fuckng Awesome, really?

  • who gives a fuck about GNR?

  • i like the gnr version

  • @rockgod1987

    hell yea!

  • The best Oio band ever!!!

  • wish the vid wasn't so out of sync. great song and fuck gnr :)

  • Refined music,,,, no thanks. I want to feel a bands pain and turmoil that transcends in its rough sound. GNR are pretty plastic but hey to each his own. I prefer the Stiv Bators, GG Allins, Darby Crashes over the Axle Roses any day.

  • @Flakatak76 haha cmon stiv is so much closer to axl than to gg allin. All the cool ones like stiv, thunders, ramone, monroe, or iggy, loved gnr back in the day. Yeah they played their instruments "cleaner", but that raw feeling and the honesty that makes a band great was there in every word and note. If you don't see that at least in that Live like a suicide demo, or the first album then you don't know much about that transcendental pain you're talking about.

  • @crlumberjack Saw them open for Metalica, *yawn* "stiv, thunders, ramone, monroe, or iggy, loved gnr back in the day. " were do you get these facts? Sorry in my opinion Axle was all show.

  • @Flakatak76 just look it up he wasn't all show the guy really had it tough and had real reasons to right the lyrics he wrote. Stiv was Michael Monre's best friend, michael suggested the ain't it fun cover to axl, and sung in it, its on the album's booklet. Joey and Iggy have said in many interviews how much they like gnr, 'cause they were great band they were what they played. I personally prefer the Dead Boys and even more Lords of the New Church, but I can't say gnr weren't a great band .

  • this song f'king rocks!

  • Dead boys wrote the song and gnr made it sound decent. /argument

  • @8Eriquo8 False! Rocket from the Tombs wrote the song in the early 70's. Then they broke up and some former "Rocket from the Tombs" - Members founded/joined "Dead Boys"

  • @mamananau ok whatever, replace the dead boys with the other name then

  • Stiv Bator wuz liv tylers step dad!

  • ...and if you think slash just got into music for the money then you sir are mistaken. Read his book and get some facts before you talk about him. He was all about the music.

  • @thestrangesound Guns n Roses was just a better band in every way and you know somewhat of what your talking about about gnr and their early days but you make it sound like a bad thing being that its coming from a point of view of someone who doesn't like gnr. Gnr did not live an exactly "happy life" as you put it. They were livin on the streets as well and did what ever they could to play the music they loved. They went from nothing to being the biggest band in the world.

  • ok so who made aint it fun???

  • @Explosivecork Dead Boys. From the album "We Have Come For Your Children" in 1978. Their debut "Young Loud & Snotty" in '77 is a punk classic.

  • @Explosivecork Rocket from the Tombs =)

  • written by Peter Laughner R.I.P

  • Cameras have traveled long journey from these days...

  • good songs, both this and gnr's cover. stiv bators teached for example Michael Monroe (Hanoi Rocks) to hang himself with a mic and many other tricks.

  • good song, good cover by gnr. fuck facts, theyre both good
