That's cool you let em go the right way. Instead of breaking his beak off or tying a stick in his mouth or just simply throwing it up on the bank. Most people don't know but far fish can still breathe out if water so it takes a long while for them to die like that. I like seeing people that look like they care about nature. personally, to catch gar, i put a minnow on a small hook, i cast him in front of the gar, i wait so that the gar can gulp the entire bait, then i set the hook and it works all the time

@bsm91 just take a bobber and a steele leader and a treble hook put the treble hook at the bottom of it and put a bobber at the top then tie it too ur line the put a small or large creek chub on it and cast it out in front of them and when they take it just let them run

Looks like a yellow hookless lure, not sure were they sell 'em, but they are easy to make. Look up "how to make hookless lure" and I'm sure you'll find it.

its a rope lure, just a freyed out piece of rope that they dye different colors. Point is to let them have the lure long enough to get it tangled in their teeth
