sally gunnell looks like a young pretty feminine jarmila kratochvilova,doesnt she?must be the curly hair.tatyana ledovskaya looks very butch,bless her.
Deb, one of the all-time greats. Not quite Cathy Freeman, but extraordinary nonetheless. Onya Deb! Should've won more. She was competing against Russian and East German cheats all her career, just like Raelene Boyle.
I remember reading a story about how Flintoff-King put a note into her shoes about her sister who passed away. The note said that Debbie was running in rememberance for her sister.
What a performance beating all the drug cheats from East Europe (not their fault) and North America (was their fault). Excellent performance - forgot how close this race was.
@metsdudenj Yeah - course she was. Like all US athletes were clean such as Carl 'Stimulants in Toothpaste' Lewis, Flo Jo, Harry Butch Reynolds. Same way years later Gatlin, Jones, CJ Hunter, Montgomery et al... None of them drug cheats. My mistake they must have been representing another country.
wow that would have to be the most amazing rce i ever witnessed , i to remember watching it as an 11 yr old from my home in sydney and to see it again sends chills up my spine , well done DFK
Thank you so much. I watched this race as a kid but hadn't seen it for almost 20 years. I was an Australia fan those days, and I kept dreaming of making it to Australia one day, so I was glad for Flintoff-King. Pity she retired shortly afterwards, with Ledovskaya winning the European and World Champs in 1990 and 1991 only to retire at a relatively young age as well.
Have always wanted to see this, thanks for sharing it. Wonder if Ledovskaya knew she had lost before it was announced, she didn't seem that happy when others were congratulating her?
I remember that, when she was getting called to the starting blocks in the 4x400 final in Seoul, she looked bored, yawned and had a "what am I doing here?" expression in her face. She didn't look too excited when she won the European and World Championships either. Maybe she didn't enjoy her running and that's why she retired early.
Thanks very much for this video. I have been waiting to see it again for almost 20 years!
The day that the Aussies flew out to Seoul Debbie Flintoff-King had to attend the funeral of her sister who died suddenly. She gompeted with swollen glands and an infection and used meditation and yoga to help in her preparation.

@zim83
Not bored or disinterested, very focused yet very shy of media and public attention. She is a very nice, friendly person.
