what ever happend to the quality VW used to have? Back in the 60's a bug was recalled for a blemish on a trim peice on the glove box door. Ever since Heinz Nordoff (can't spell) died VW had taken a down turn. It was right after he died that they had to go and change the look of the bug and put on the differant fenders bumpers etc... No one liked it much any more and sales went way down. Heinz must be rolling in his grave :,(

What are you talking about? They dont keep the the same designs of cars forever you know. Of coarse they changed the Beetle because it was getting outdated and it needed a change. And sorry your wrong, the Beetle actually did ever well even after Nordoff died. VW cars are virtually bullet proof, yes they have some problems, as do with other automakers. VW's are very reliable cars. I have a 2005 1.8T Beetle with over 90K and its still running strong.

That is Exactly what they do have. they own them 100% therefore own them. Volkswagens are well built and solidly build, hence the "Volkswagen clunk" this refers to the sound the door makes wen it shuts if u werent aware of this. the interior materials are also alot better than Toyota, for example. and you get what you pay for. and i would always buy a quality car over a cheaper one. I like the feel of quality, and average reliabilty doesn't bother me.

The feel of quality is not a VW strong point, if you call brittle and roughly moulded plastics, and premature rusting on hingles etc quality then you need to see a doctor... dont quote what youve heard, actually look at the these cars with your own eyes and see what we mean, compare a Toyota to the likes of a VW instead of saying what your father/mother/friend as told you!!

You know when youve shut the door on a VW product cause the trim panel falls off! Quality is a mis-nomer on german cars, people (understandably) see heavy gauge and clunky materials as being good quality, it isnt. All German (and european for that matter) Products in my large experience are badly made and suffer lots of inexcusable problems, my 2001 BMW 7 series is a pure joke, Ive given up trying to repair the growing list of electrical and trims issues that are become more evident everyday!!!

I was starting to think the problems were affecting few people until I tried a brand new Rabbit with the 6-speed. Transmission was broken with only 15 miles on the ODO.

VW is only good when it comes to features-for-price and interior quality, aside from that, reliability has been disastrous for the past decade and more.

I had plenty of vw's mainly rabbits and a cabriolet. They do give problems but only common sense should tell you not to keep your fingers when folding down anything if you cant see where your finger is going. Get a leash with a clip and pull on it when folding the seat up or down. The problems I had with my vw's were cv joints, alternator, wheel cylinders. Other then that they always ran. I drove a cabriolet for 2 years needing a head gasket and it never broke down on me.
