there is never, ever any reason to kill honeybees, I am a beekeeper from the east coast. Your county "agent " was incompetant not to call in a removal service.
@HazeyModss Well if there were no bees then how would all that pollinating to provide your food get done, the answer is it wouldn't. Bees can have a hard time with all the pesticides used in agriculture and flaky seasonal weather.
@TheRiceowlex its cool if you like bees but i personaly dont care about them at all haha but yeah they do help us out alot but i would still kill them if they fucked my house up like that soo pritty much i would have torched the fuckers.
Your local county agent is an idiot. You should have called a real beekeeper who could have saved the bees. Just because he couldn't see the one queen among thousands of other bees is no reason to kill them. He had no idea what he was doing, and just made an excuse so he could take the easy way out. The queen isn't going to just leave the brood. so chances are 9 times out of 10 if he carefully took out all the comb and brood he would have the queen too.
At school we do this thing called doggy-pile where all of us go down the slidee at once and yaa I don't think I could survive being pushed and shoved by over 6k of kids going down a slide....
This is not good.....why kill the bees at all? He could not locate the queen and the hive, you should have told the exterminator to leave and then call (877)224-4880. They couldn't find it the first time, so they killed the bees? If they were covered in honey....common sense tells me that there is honeycomb nearby. In CA, These guys find the honey first time, every time and they refuse to kill bee.
@kingnick53 You can always tell when someone knows little-to-nothing about the story. The queen was found the next day; the hive was behind two layers of brick on each side; they had to be killed bc they were a danger to kids; and this, mercifully, isn't California. Californians always wish to project their beliefs and traditions onto others (when we don't do that to them)....whilst, at once, having absolutely NO interest, tolerance or respect for the beliefs and traditions of others.
@xtexred I am not from CA, I am from MA, and Kingnick is absolutely right. This video has nothing to do with tradition. It has to do with lack of knowledge and respect they honeybees, which are slowly dying off, and are required for our food supply and the survival of the human race. Have you ever heard of Colony Collapse Disorder? Never call an exterminator for honeybees, call a beekeeper
porthings if it were hornits or wasps BOOM killem all but i had a masive beesnest at our old house masiv we had a huge garden and was thick with bees but we left theme alone they left us alone never got stung once (but i dont think they could sting) we got a guy to smoke em and gave em to a bee keper (but as i sead thees ones couldent sting)
The beekeeper got it out later when he retrieved the whole hive -- he just got rid of the bees on this visit. They came back tenfold -- he ended up removing 200 pounds of bees, honey and hive. T'was awesome -- and, yes -- yummy! :)
Nothing was wasted. The exterminator you hear speaking came back teh next day to retrieve the cone and honey. The cone was almost 6 feet long (across) and about 20" tall. It was awesome. I guess I should have filmed that, too.
They got in our back yard wall right near my toilet, been there for 2 years now. When its hot they all hang outside right near there entrance. I got thousands too.
That's a real, real shame. I understand you couldn't get to the queen (which I gather is essential), but sad nevertheless, especially with honey bees disappearing at the rate they are.
NO, he ended up getting the queen. He also returned teh next day to retrieve teh cone and honey. The cone was about 6 feet by 20 inches -- it was huge.
OK, so the queen survived - I guess that's something. Judging by the fact you can film them (perhaps it's 'cause they're dying), the resulting bees may hopefully a non-aggressive and manageable strain. Is it really possible to eat the honey after using a chemical spray on the workers?
I have this... "ornament" so to speak in my backyard; it's like a portable fireplace; it's made entirely of bronze, hollow, and when the lid is on, an ideal nest.
As I was helping my dad outside, I noticed 5-10 bees had started construction of a nest inside. Naturally I kept this a secret lest my parents destroy it.
My curiosity led me to youtube bees and hives; but sadly, most videos involve morons breaking/burning them. =(
If you like watching/have sympathy with bees, why not consider encouraging solitary bees especially mason bees (search on this site). They are not aggressive and are easy to provide habitats for.
Stupid people.
