it always irritates me that fans of rock and heavy metal like myself can't appreciate (or simply don't know) where many of the melodies originally came from.
My favourite performance of this wonderful piece of music is by The Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Lorin Maazel. I have it on vinyl, just a shame i dont have a turntable to play it on lol.
Andrameda666, Scientists have proved, that man has a soul. Intuition and common sense also suggests that the person may not be the only body without a soul.
@NewtonBlog Its a Harpsichord by the way, and that was traditional at the time. The player would 'realise' the chords of the piece from the baseline the cellos are playing and the numbers written above their music. As its music for small(ish) rooms you'd have a more intimate experience listening to it and they don't have the ability to play different volumes so they often sound like they're in the background in recordings.
But as a violinist I'm biased and I agree with your point :D
This classical masterpiece was played last year in Manila, Philippines during the entrance and exit of former President Corazon Aquino's casket at the Manila Cathedral during her wake and funeral last August 3-5, 2009.
I have come to appreciate JSBach as I have gotten older (now 45). My father was largely into Bach, Beethoven, Strauss, Mozart, Vivaldi, etc... From Bob Dylan and Neil Young, the Sex Pistols and X, Marc Cohn and Elton John, Ledbelly and John Lee Hooker, I find this music my choice when stressed, nervous, needing peace, and/or just needing "think time" to ponder questions or work.....God bless JSB and all like him. Fritz
@KittinaHungary Like other kinds of music, classical takes time to fully appreciate the greatness of classical music. It is the influence for the music of today.Everyone should realize that.Yes,not everyone can like all the kinds of music, but by listening with an open mind, you can appreciate them with full understanding. It's up to you if you can like the music or not.If you like it,good for you and keep listening to it;if not,it's otherwise but it is okay to dislike it,but don't hate it...
@KittinaHungary It's also a good thing back in my music class in high school,my music teacher showed me classical music. We even watched movies based on such great composers, like Mozart and Beethoven.
moves me to tears every time i hear it!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not particularly care for the "transitioning" and staccato in this "variation." I also do not like the guitar or mandolin or whatever @ 1:34
