@TomKrolMusic Thanks so much Tom! wow Keith Emerson very cool! I love ELP! I have enjoyed your classical guitar performances my friend! Keep up the good work!
@newton4prez Thanks so much! great to meet you! I was wanting that haunting Broon's Bane quality, and Alex's solo in La Villa also has a similar feel as the theme, it's in 7/4 time :) It was because of that solo( and Xanadu) that I learned volume swells on an electric, and that solo is a great lesson in dynamics and building a solo up to a climax. A Lerxst in Wonderland alright!
@BMDguitar I remember learning Broon's Bane a while back. I'll have to relearn it. I remember how Lifeson blended the end of Broon's Bane with the intro to The Trees on Exit Stage Left.
As a Canadian, there was no way I could have grown up here without listening to Rush. But then, that's the way it is for all great bands. But Rush is different somehow....they go beyond great. And I have to say your tribute to Mr. Lifeson here is really wonderful. Thanks very much for sharing your talent with us out here. Peace :)
@GravediggersPlace Thanks so much! means a lot! And I might add I love Canada! I have been to Toronto and Montreal. Both great cities! I know what you mean about RUSH! I think it's the freedom in the music, and you can never put the music into a box! I love listening to a RUSH song the first time and saying wow they went there and it worked! :) I have learned a bunch of lessons as a guitarist from Alex! Each album you can learn a different lesson about guitar playing. thanks!
Hey Brandon, I wouldn't call myself a bass player :) I tried as a teen but found that I could hit Geddy's vocal high notes bettter than I could slap his low ones... but alas I tried. Now I just sing. That's funny, Grace is my favorite album as well. fav song for me is a toss up between AfterImage and between the wheels. I'm a rare lover of "A show of hands" over the other 2 prev live albums :) and I also love Vapor Trails despite other poo pooing it :) I just love all of it!!!
@3libras1971 I love Afterimage too I am working on a solo guitar arrangement of it! There's not a Rush album I don't like! Every album has it's own formula to to it! :)
I wanted to be a bassist like Geddy when I was 15 so I started lessons and rented this gorgeous black Fender but alas my hands were too small and I turned out to be a way better singer so now I just sing everything RUSH. LOL! I envy you, I'm just not coordinated enough. All my friends were into new wave and I was the token geek!! The music is lifes inspiration and This band means so much to me :) Some of the best stuff was post "Grace Under Pressure" ya know?
@3libras1971 cool you play bass! :) I am a huge Grace Under Pressure fan! such a great album! I love all the tracks on it! my favorite one would be Between the Wheels! Alex's solo in that tune has so much feel, and I love the rhythm ideas and vocal melodies!
@3libras1971 Thanks Brandie! I appreciate you posting the video on your channel! Every dream I have had since I was young was inspired by an Alex Lifeson solo at one point or another.

@MsMilkytheclown thanks a lot! I play electric too, I started on that first when i was 13. I grew up skateboarding and playing guitar in Seminole, Fl I would go to school listening to RUSH on my walkman ( remember those thing! :) ) , and then skateboard after school for hours! Come home and do my homework playing as many RUSH tapes as possible :) Best of luck to your son on the guitar!
Ricky4395 Thanks Ricky! means a lot! One of the most important things anyone can learn from Alex's playing is feel! :) and music has a way of helping you express things that words can't! :)

@MrTommYYZ Awesome! sounds good Tell Tony he is welcome to look me up in Greenville, SC in June. I would be more than happy to meet everyone for a meal! :)

@WARLOCK70 thanks so much for the kind words! keep doing what you love man! that's all that matters! play the music that you want to play, and people will catch on to what you are doing! :) CHEERS
Rush is also my all time favorite band. I don't play guitar so I have no idea what you're talking about in your description but the music does remind me of some guitar work in Rush. This piece builds in intensity and explodes at the end much like a typical Rush song would do. I took a listen just now to Tears so I can definitely here the similarity in the type of the guitar used. Tears is one of my least inspirational Rush songs so it's interesting that it moved you. I appreciate it more now.
@patcoston Hey thanks so much for your positive feedback! I was inspired by every RUSH song really :)!, and really celebrating Alex's guitar work in RUSH too! I simply just used the opening chord position from the song TEARS ( Alex made that chord famous) in the middle of the piece. Your description of SON OF LIFE was right on! thanks for noticing! Very nice to meet you.
@4BellaGuitar no problem! I love music, and Alex is such an underrated guitarist who should get more credit! :) Great to meet you and I hope all is well in Germany!
@neonskyline1 thanks so much! Alex certainly is one of the most unique guitarists around, and he is such a team player too! always writing the perfect part for the tune! nice to meet you and have a Merry Christmas!
Absolutely wonderful piece. I think Alex would like it a lot. I hate to correct someone, because I don't want to be rude, but being a HUGE Rush fan myself, I thought I should tell you that the song 'Trees' is from Hemisphers not 2112.
@whoopiman Hey thanks so much :) nice to meet you. I can tell you are a true Rush fan defending the details :) read my description again and you will see that I did list the Fmaj 9 voicing from "Tears" on 2112 :) no problem at all though Cheers!
@BMDguitar Oh man, I am such a dweeb. That's what I get for reading too fast. I was wondering why no one else hadn't corrected you. It was because they are not delusional like me. LOL. Tears was one of the first Rush songs I learned on guitar. It's also one of the few songs that wasn't written by Neil Peart.
@whoopiman no worries at all man! If your standing up for the best band in the world you are definitely not a a dweeb :) I think every guitarist learned to move that c major chord to 6th fret from Alex, and also the HEMISPHERES chord ( which is also featured in FAR CRY ) F#7add4 ( 11). I actually also hint a chord progression from FREEWILL in SON OF LIFE, Alex plays bm7b5 to Bbmaj7 in the pre-chorus of FREEWILL. In SON OF LIFE i play bm7b5, G7/B, Bbmaj7, gm7/Bb. that was accidental
@compman67 thanks! I actually am going to record another version with the solo guitar piece as a background and then add electric guitar leads, volume swells, art harmonics, and ebos. I also may add cello too!
Great playing and composing. I also am a big fan of Lifeson, I feel he is like a modern mozart with his great classical compositions which are critically ignored.
@twhitak thanks a bunch! I agree Alex is a great composer ( not just classically) , and is very creative and innovative. I am sure he would probably make Mozart crack up too! Alex is such a funny guy!
...stunning !!

I also am a big fan of Lifeson, I feel he is like a modern mozart with his great classical compositions which are critically ignored.
twhitak 1 year ago
@twhitak thanks a bunch! I agree Alex is a great composer ( not just classically) , and is very creative and innovative. I am sure he would probably make Mozart crack up too! Alex is such a funny guy!
