if thats the most intelligent thing you can come up with then you are an asshole too cuvillier94. takes one to know one :).
if you have no prior knowledge on something then ask your mom first maybe she knows a thing or two in aviation(but i doubt it,if you are a moron then your mom is most probably a moron too).
How is it wasted? That's a beautiful piece of machinery right there! Test pilots died, yes.. that's why test pilots have such prestige. They put their lives on the line, testing aircraft that no one has ever flown before, and learning how to react to situations that no engineer could dream up.
Don't feel sad for the marines.. they get to play with the coolest toys, and they're damn happy to do so.
try 30 dead marines. because of this the usmc is still stuck with the old hueys and quickly tiring CH-53s. they are forced to pull retired units from AMARC just for them to support the present fleet.
i understand your awe when you see a new bird but sorry theres a reason why USN pays to hide finish v22 unit in hangars to avoid the cameras.
all the billions and it doesnt even have a side machine gun to cover marines during landings :P.

when are you born yesterday? do me a favor google v-22 :P.
How quick you are to speak of things you don't know. To date, over four times as many people have died from CH-53 accidents. Plus, compared to the CH-53, the Osprey can travel twice the distance at twice the speed. I understand that you're unwilling to accept new technology, which is why you may feel I was born yesterday. How sad for you, the osprey is here, and in operational use.
things i dont know and i already correct you once :P. how dare you compare the CH-53 on a V-22! how many mission/tonnage have the ch53 done?how about the V-22? get it?
BTW. im a great admirer of human achievement thats why i know things you dont :P
next time do your homework first before blindly worshiping something.
heck thats the reason why guys are stuck in iraq! hehehe.
You're quite pleased with yourself, aren't you. I'm not sure how you've corrected me, as apparently you didn't object to a single thing I said.. I guess we're both right. Fancy that.
And please, don't drag everyone who speaks English into the "you guys are stuck in iraq!" schtick. Blaming western civilization for that would be like blaming all of Europe for facism. Don't turn our discussion of this awesome aircraft into a political debate.
yeah i corrected you.. this flying machine had already killed marines,30 of them, you said some test pilot :P. no,im right, again, because i do my home work :P.
I see.. so you don't consider test pilots to be real servicemen. Well, that will come as a shock to them. I'm sorry you don't understand what the phrase "test pilots" means.
And no, I was born in Toronto, thanks.. not that it matters. A person's views and opinions shouldn't be cast aside because of where they're from.. But I wouldn't expect someone from your side of the world to understand that (get it?).
Exactly. You're saying marines and test pilots are mutually exclusive. Look up VMX-22, which consists of marine test pilots for the ospreys. Test pilots, marines, neither of us are wrong, you're just thicker headed and love trolling.
I'm not sure why you're so satisfied with your own "education".. shouldn't someone be constantly learning, in a state of perpetual education? One can't, "get an education," as you put it. We are constantly being educated.
I'm.. astonished that you don't think marines can be test pilots. Are you really that thick, or are you just trying to lure me into arguing some more?
There have only been four crash's in the entire 18 years worth of flight testing, three of the four crash's have taken human life. This is a small price to pay for the development of an aircraft that can do the job of the over half a dozen aircraft it is replacing, and do it faster. This system will no doubt save many lives in combat. The Osprey has performed flawlessly for over 5 months in Iraq as of right now (Jan 08).
elaborate how this bird could save more lives? sounds like a sales pitch :D !!
it doesnt even have a forward, side, rear gun to cover the marines during landings!!!!
hint: it has a BIG discs(rotating rotor blades) on the side, so side mounted machine guns are out of the question. hahaha after all the billions of dollars!! hey its your money :P
It can and will save lives (on our side anyway) by getting our Marines to their landing zone faster and with more equipment and supplies than the CH-46D it is replacing. 150 MPH faster, 4 times the distance without refuel, 12000 ft higher max alt, carries 6000 lbs more! No door guns are needed, the USMC's A/H-1 Super Cobra and the new A/H-1Z Viper and UH-1Y Venom provide all the fire support the Ospreys need.
Something I could not fit into that paragraph was, you can not put door guns on such a fast aircraft. The shear noise and speed makes it impossible to have an open hatch or port hole in the side of an aircraft, it would create suction and drag making it very unstable... not to mention very windy and cold (below freezing at high altitudes) for the Marines in the back.
you cant fit guns in ospray because of the two HUGE rotor disc. that makes it vulnerable. usually choppers have guns to cover and protect marines during the most dangerous part of it's mission..landing them behind enemy lines.
sorry but this bird cant and doesnt have one.
all the time and money the usmc and tax payers had lost on this bird and its a dodo.
What are you talking about? The size of the rotors have nothing to do with the ability of mountin a weapons system in a port, the barrels only stick out a half a foot if even that, they would not be hit by the props at all. When you are looking at 5 degrees parallel to the nacelle props they hardly cover any more area than smaller a prop systems. They had them on B-25's, B-17's, and B-29's because no fighter aircraft of the time could fly as far or as high as them!
you cant(and the engineers didnt)put a gun on the side when it is in direct line of fire of the engines/transmission/rotors. thats why it doesnt have a gun :(.not because of speed, etc. aircrafts faster than V22 have guns.
if they solve this,i agree, the V-22 is an amazing aircraft.
but as of now,it's next to suicide for those poor USMC guys.
You CAN put a pintle mounted weapon in the forward hatch's of the Osprey, it would have a 75 degree field of fire which is nearly the same as any helicopter. No aircraft ever in use that is faster or could fly higher than the V-22 (315 MPH/26000 ft) has gun ports which expose men inside to the ellements. Gun ports on high altitude aircraft went out in the mid 1940's. It is not suicide, it has been in Iraq for 5 months now with zero problems.
so whats the point of inventing and wasting so much of uncle sams money making a machine that flies as fast as an airplane yet it has to slow down to wait for the slower flying helicopter cover it needs.
you are a genius BigJohn762mm your mom should be proud of you hahahaha :P. moron.
You obviously dont know anything about the AH-1Z Viper or UH-1Y Venom, they fly much faster than the current AH-1W Super Cobra and UH-1N Huey and can keep up with the MV-22B Osprey. It would be quite simple to have the gunship helicopters leave a few minutes before the transport helicopters even if they were slower. Over the horizon assault is impossible with the current fleet of helicopters and amphibious assault vehicles, this is why these new vehicles and aircraft are being adopted.
The AH-1Z Viper's MAX-OUT speed 255 MPH. The MV-22B's cruising speed is 245 MPH. These aircraft have been specifically designed to work together for over the horizon amphibious assault's. The Osprey does not slow down for its escort, you obviously dont know how these insertions work. The attack helicopters go in first, take out obsticles on the beach for the amphibious assault craft, then clear and patrol the landing zone just as the transport aircraft are arriving.
you still miss the point the V-22 was built to be an airplane and a chopper(thus a tilt-rotor.duh!) so it will replace what the marines have now and it didnt.
the ah-1z can fly 220kts max but only 155kts cruise.
get this to your thick head. the reason they approved the budget on V-22 so it can have a higher cruise speed that any chopper moron. ok? jeez what are you 12yrs old?
You dont even know the specs of the aircraft but you criticize it?! You dont even know how assault maneuvers are conducted but you seem to think you know why this aircraft will supposedly be a failure?! You need to learn what the hell your talking about before opening your mouth, dont call me a kid either, you are the one resorting to childish insults.
People will see it. I mean just look at it! That thing is amazing - word will spread fast. I just saw a report on this aircraft on FOXNEWS yesterday and its getting glowing reviews.
Thank God for you Americans. The world would really be fukt without you.
it is soooo true i just posted a comment on the same video stating my husband is a crew chief on this aircraft. he just spent a month in iraq with the squadron for fleet support and said the aircraft is doing some phenomenal things out there. it sure is nice to hear the positive for once.
I really like it, but I'd love to see them mount some weapons on that thing. At least a nose cannon. It'd be pretty hard to clear an LZ without some heat... Maybe in the future...
A nose cannon won't actually be that much use during an LZ because of its limited field of fire. It's probably one of the reasons they got rid of it, see as a nose cannon is only really useful on attack craft (which the Osprey is not).
I hear they are working on a belly-mounted cannon, though, which would have an omni-directional field of fire. Don't know if there are any hard plans to actually equip MV-22s with them, though.
