  • hey make a tutorial to get it please

  • Why ubuntu look so crapy? I mean, it looks like Windows 2000 or 98. I love the way windows 7 looks, with all the windows that look like cristal windows and when you put the mouse on top of the button it glows etc. They should try to make their os more elegant and more friendly because using wine is ok but having to type the adress of the file every single time you want to open something that's not for Linux like Photoshop. It's better to just doble click and done.

  • @bvjorge

It's the Ubuntu default theme, it's not that complicated to change it.

Also Ubuntu has a lot of older users, that don't want some flashy hot eye-candy interface. It will only slow down there pc.

When you know your way a bit, you can make Ubuntu look way better then Windows7 though!

  • i feel sorry for those old users that have mediocre lives and can't afford a new PC or can afford to upgrade.

  • Thanks alot for this video. Is it possible to provide some tutorial on how to get virtualbox and get usb support working for virtual box, etc? Also, would wine work the same as virtualbox? what's the difference?

  • @Juilkca

WINE is software that's made to run windows programs in linux distro's itself.

Virtualbox is an OS-emulator, so you run an OS in a Linux OS.

  • another beauty of linux... Linux rocks

  • on real linux like mine its called rhythm box and its already on ubuntu

  • What is chrome? as in Google Chrome?

  • how did you get that background plz tell me

  • He probably spent a year hacking the OS, seeing as it's impossible to do anything in Ubuntu otherwise.

  • lol I love your sarcasm....

  • lol, that's the stupidest thing I've EVER heard.

  • And if you try to tell me that I'm completely wrong, that will have been the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

  • Seriously, if you can't figure anything in Ubuntu out, you need to rethink ever being on a computer again. It's insanely easy.

  • Talk out your ass more please. I know how to use Ubuntu now, but it took a while to learn it. When I first installed it and knew absolutely nothing about it, I spent quite a lot of time on Google figuring out how to install programs etc. To you it might be sudo apt-get install, but how the fuck would a new user know that?

Also I wanted to install a Mac OS X theme for fun, I had to go through a THREE-PAGE guide with specific commands and to-dos. In Windows, you double-click and done.

  • LOL, you complain too much. Linux is easy. Ubuntu 8.10 was the first time I had used it and it didn't get any simpler.

  • I complain just enough in my opinion. Almost anyone that's not a Linux zealot will tell you that it's not as easy as advertised, and takes a significantly higher learning curve then Windows or Mac. Simply put, it's not as easy as you arrogantly try to make it out to be.

  • I'm not being arrogant. You are. It's insanely easy. YES, you have to learn how to use it, read a little etc. You sound like you just wanna open an OS and just know how to use it. No dice. It takes learning, but its NOT even close to hard. Get over yourself, you're just mildly retarded.

  • Lol, look up what arrogant means. You're one of those people that learned it a while ago and now it's easy for you so you smirk at people who say it's harder or that don't have experience with it yet.

And I don't expect to open it and know it, but I don't expect to be required to be a high-end computer user to master it either. You know what it takes to use it, so quit denying it.

P.S. Your egocentric logic skews your perception of reality in these matters, apparently.

  • @PoliticalHell

M8, It is easy to install, the guide is meant for users who don't know there way around Linux OS distro's.

Ubuntu takes some time to figure out, but once you've been trough it, it's so easy.

  • I've been using it for a while now, I know my way around it, but if I want to do something new (like that time I wanted to change my theme to a custom one) it still takes a lot of Google searches.

  • How did you install XP in virtual box?

  • dude i need alot ofhelp how can ido this itunes secifically how??

  • godness this is what I've been waiting for!! itunes + chrome on ubuntu, now i need photoshop :D

  • hi umm im new to linux and i just installed it, but i have trouble getting itunes to work... i downloaded wine and opened it with wine but it says the installer ran into an error... and whats sun xvm virtualbox? plz help

  • Hi. I pretty sure iTunes won't run under wine. Virtualbox is basically a computer emulator, you can install pretty much any operating system you want and it will run at the same time as Ubuntu. I installed XP and ran it in seemless mode so it sits on my desktop. So really I am running windows in order to get iTunes to work.

Oh and I picked up an iPhone this week. I had no problems hooking up my iPhone and adding media using this method.

  • thanx but i tried to download virtual box and i couldnt get a few files... and idea how to fix that?

  • Google "virtualbox" and goto the first result for Sun's virtualbox site. Then download the deb file for ubuntu and install it. When you get virtualbox setup install XP.

  • thanks, but im totally new to linux and i dont know how to even install things on linux.. help?

  • Just goto the virtualbox website and download links. When you click on it you should get an option to "open with GDebu Package Installer". It will install the program just like windows. You should get a menu option under applications for Systems Tools. If not try rebooting your machine.

  • hey thanks i got it to work but.. when i try to load an windows XP OS i get this screen that says no bootable medium found! System Aborted. Any help with that?

  • do i have to have a cd for this? because no bootable medium means that i think

  • or you can open a terminal and type:

    $sudo apt-get install virtualbox

    and thats it ;)

    cheerz from Argentina

  • hey thanks for the help so far, but im totall new to linux and dont even know how to install downloaded software! help me?

  • lol sorry for double post :P

  • is there a way to get itunes on windown 2000? cause thats what i have, and i cant seem to find a video that answers my question

  • Yes. Goto the itunes website and click on download itunes. Down at the bottem of the page there is a link that says "Windows 2000 users". Click on that and it will take you to a version of iTunes for Windows 2000.

  • thanks a bunch man :D

  • hey. I have an iPhone and I need to sync it with iTunes (of course).

I have alredy done this (install Windows XP under VirtualBox on Ubuntu) but its toooooooooooooo lagyyyyyyyyyyyyy, it is too laggy that i cant hear a song without micro-stops, I hate it, I think that my problem is my pc, I have only 512 of RAM and 3ghz (Pentium 4) Pro, what are your system specs?

    ty!

  • Yeah I have an AMD 4800+ and 2 gigs of ram. I'm giving the VM 512 megs of ram to run XP.A speedier machine might help but I don't have an iphone or itouch so I can't be sure.

  • Ok, thats a great PC. Mine sucks.

I know that you can sync your iPod/iPhone with iTunes using VirtualBox, but the problem that I had (now I decided to use another PC running Windows natively) was that I dont have enought RAM for run Windows XP alone, now I doing Virtual Machine I have less than before!

  • nice vid but theres no point in installing ubuntu and then putting windows programs on it!

you shouldnt bother putting ubuntu on if u want windows.

but its a nice vid well done :D

  • Lol, yeah thats true. It was just fun to do. Thanks.

  • Hey, im new to linux. And i was wondering how do you run windows inside ubuntu like AND what is this virtualbox you guys are talkin about??? Also can you run windows office inside this virtualbox??? Which is the only reason i want windows at all aside from itunes. Please Respond...

  • Hi sorry I didn't get back to you right away. Just google virtualbox, it's easy to install. And it is running a full version of windows so any windows program will run.

  • Nice fish background :D

  • Thanks. Thats Dream Aquarium for Windows running under Wine.

  • Hey, how do you get the start menu to stand above the bottom gnome bar? Last time I tried XP in virtualbox, it just sat on top of it rather than above.

  • Actually this is the first time I ever ran virtualbox in seamless mode. I'm running the latest version which is 2.0.6. I got the Sun version and not the OSE version. Then installed the guest editions and it worked by default. The only other thing I did was uncheck "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" in the Taskbar and Start Menu properties. Hope that helps.
