I can understand the controversy with Aikidoa, thinking this isnt following O Sensei's beliefs of love thy enemy and the 'spirit of aikido'. However in the spirit of Aikido unity.. Aikido for the most part gets no respect from the majority of MMA juiceheads..So in that aspect i say turn this beast loose upon the MMA population and watch it crumble..Id be curious to see if MMA lifted the no 'small joint manipulation' rule and allowed this fella to compete..There would be mad crazy injuries..
@piaten I disagree. Most arguments against "do no harm" are that it is simply too difficult in a combat situation. Agreed...very difficult. But if a bullfighter can get out of the way of a bull, control is possible. Its not fantasy. Just very difficult. Most attackers will not be Systema-trained KGB agents anyway. If you really need to go hard, carry a pistol.
When you first learn martial arts, the most important concept at first is: knowing how to break your fall. This guy got up easily because he was taught properly how to fall. This was very important in Hapkido!
cool vid... why does the attacker in aikido demos always look like he's running blindly with an out stretch arm toward the guy he knows is going to grab the arm and throw him?
This are very good moves, and flashy too. But this is doable if your opponent is just about the same size as you. I still prefer wing chun so I can take on larger opponents.
Very good and impressive aikido. (To all 'esoterics' and fighters for the true spirit: Also a simple Sankyo in classical aikido will harm the oponent... - so pls.come down)
Very good and impressive aikido. (To all 'esoterics' and fighters for the true spirit Also a simple Sankyo in classical aikido will harm the oponent... - so pls.come down)
O Sensei made it very clear the goal is to do NO HARM. You move well, but the aiki spirit is missing. Aiki is not philosophy. Its a practice. Its MORE difficult than downing people and injuring them. If you're still doing these techniques in 10 years that'd be a shame. Imagine being skilled and powerful enough to do NO harm, and yet still overwhelm. Its quite a challenge, and it transforms you into a different kind of warrior....not a loser. Cheers buddy.
@jhaduvala You live in a MA fantasy. O'sensei taught to PREFERABLY not inflict serious harm, and at least TRY not to KILL the attacker. Do you see anyone getting killed or hurt in this vid BTW? It's just training, man! But the streets -or battlefield- can be so incredibly dangerous and violent that no one could be able to defend themselves without hurting the aggressor! Love your enemy, but if you have to defend yourself or loved ones, do it properly! Speak softly, and carry a big stick!
This isn't really aikido. It contains far more than just balance and motion. You can just about see the aikido heritage, but its clearly morphed into a variant of ju jitsu (and nothing like the precursor to Aikdio - Daito Ryu Ju Jitsu).
That said, these techniques are impressively executed, even for Ju Jitsu.
what you are doing is not defending! its attacking! because you throw your opponent on the floor he stand up he doesn't even yet stand up and you ATTACK HIM! i don't say that you will attack someone at any time, but this give more the idea you learn to attack in stead to defend!
I like the part where the attacker ran towards him with his arms out. The last time I got into a streetfight the guy did the same thing - He ran right thru me- I didn't stand a chance.
the one problem i have with this video is that it is illegal to put your foot behind your opponents and trip them. im trying to decide if it was early or placed during the attack.
@21526001270528 WTF? Illegal to sweep?! Whatever do you mean? Are you referring to criminal law, or to Aikido principles? Might I remind you that O'sensei put forth some Aiki principles, not strict formalized techinques. In fact, strict focus on superficial technical details will forever keep the Aikidoka from understanding the deeper principles of the art! So what's wrong with putting your leg behind uke's while executing an Irimi movement?! Nothing!
@piaten lol i guess i should have made it clearer on what i meant. in a rondori match sweeping is illegal. its not the original style of aikido of morihei ueshiba, but from a student who became a teacher (taught tanaka sensei 8th dan) wanted to make it a competitive sport so he he formed an aikido style that uses rondori as a competitive match and in rondori its illegal to sweep. this aikido style focuses on 17 basic moves and branches out from there. lol shoulda been more clear

@xsliimshadyxful sport is football, basketball, volleyball, MMA, UFC, Aikido is art (Martial art)there is a big difference between sport and art. we are clear now ?
Sorry but I think you're wrong. Don't forget that the origin of aikido aikikai is aikijujitsu and other jujitsu styles focused on real martial principles and not just a philosophy as the orientation of modern aikido. Just a question: "modern aikido (aikikai style) is it still a martial art?"
In the Japanese language, any martial art that ends in "Jitsu" was used in warfare, such as Jujitsu (Japanese grappling) and Kenjitsu (Japanese sword fighting) were used in real life, born on the battle fields of feudal Japan. Any martial art ending in "do" such as AikiDO, or JuDO was not used in war and is not exactally proven useful through actual warfare. Just because you take a martial art from real warfare and create a DO style of it, doesn't mean it's good (or bad)
@DCSAmimd Actually I practise Aikikai style and I recognise most ofthe moves and the speed is similar to my dojo. So its hardly a corruption. Looks like Aikikai with a bit of Daito Ryu to me....
In those tournaments attacks are not made with full force, tht's why you don't get your tendons ripped off. Tournaments are not the real thing.
Training against resistance begins after 1st Dan.
This is an art that is mastered over a long time. A 1 year WT practitioner will probably beat a 1 year Aikidoka. This does not mean that Aikido is ineffective, and it does not mean that you can't defend yourself. You don't get attacked by experienced MArtists everyday do you?
@abdjms At my dojo Resistance training starts when you can handle it. For some people thats yonkyu, for others that's shodan, it depends on the practitioner, I started it at nikyu.
@frankgon4 OK... OK... I'm sorry... I don't understand AIKIDO... can you explain why in TOMIKI AIKIDO tournaments, people are able to resist without getting their tendons snapped off? Why don't we see people being thrown around like little ragdolls? What's the deal?
@frankgon4 WAIT... you mean in training there is actually some practice with REAL WORLD resistance? SHIT MAN... What does it look like? Does it look anything like TOMIKI AIKIDO? Because Tomiki Aikido doesn't look anything like a demonstration... why do you show guys flipping about like ragdolls when in REAL PRACTICE that doesn't happen? Is it to beef up enrollment at the gym? I mean... is it a business decision to do that with all of Aikido as a whole?
@frankgon4 really my friend, your example of 50 inmates is quite disappointing... you should have said what about just 1 guy with a gun standing at 5 meters... don't you think that would be more REALISTIC... REALISM is the crux of my argument... Your example is RIDICULOUS. When are you ever going to run into 50 prison inmates on the street? Also... when are you ever going to run into a guy who will just GIVE HIS WRIST to you? See where I'm going with this? TOMIKI AIKIDO TOURNAMENTS. WATCH!
@frankgon4 Seriously my friend... what you probably meant to say was that from your experience, when you give your wrist to the defender and let him establish a secure grip and apply the technique, your tendons are torn if you don't go with the throw. Of course man... of course if you just give your wrist to the guy and let him SECURE the lock, of course your tendons are going to be torn... at that point, he's got tremendous leverage... he's going to wrip your wrist right off your arm!
@lillymill so you are saying that because in tomiki tournaments, that since the defender is not allowed to strike the attacker, then that is the reason we don't see any ragdoll throws? do i understand you correctly? why do you believe that just because you are allowed to strike, that your strikes will be 100% effective or that you will be able to ragdoll your opponent?
@lillymill what if in a real situation, the attacker is not a complete idiot? what if he has a bit of experience... so that he was not in a "hurry" to grab you or punch you? what if the attacker was a black belt in Judo? what if the attacker was a world champion boxer and also outweighs you by 15-20 kilos? what if the attacker was a professional wrestler like Hulk Hogan and he had 20 inch biceps? Can you even imagine how thick Hulk Hogan's wrists must be? Could you even grab them?
I would give this man $50,000 in cash if he can do these moves on George St. Pierre. Just one not all of them. I'd love to see you flip GSP on his ass. Wait, actually no one can. This is not what Aikido is about. He is doing it fast and looks like if this was a street self-defense he is breaking rule number 1 and that is peace and harmony. O'Sensei never taught this to any of his students what is shown on this video is what I am reffering to.
@foxybrown2 can you explain why in tomiki aikido tournaments, when the attacker is allowed to resist against the aikidoka, that we don't see anything remotely similar to the demonstration seen above? we don't see the attacker getting tossed around like a ragdoll... why is that?
Because tomiki grappling vs. grappling idea kind of misses the point.
If they are not allowed to strike each other and both of them are set on grappling tactics, then the match is passive and robbed of any dynamics necessary to perform techniques like those in the video.
In a real situation, attacker is aware that he can be punched or kicked so he is in a hurry to grab you or punch you so he has to charge forward in order to attack which makes him a potential ragdoll.
@foxybrown2 you act as if it's everyone else's fault for not believing that aikido works in real life... when in fact it's aikido's fault... you guys never train with real resistance... only against training partners that attack mindlessly... you guys don't even teach your students counters to those wristlocks... why not? you do realize that there are counters to virtually all those locks. why don't you teach them? is it because it is against the way of aikido?
@aikidoisthebombyeah Your funny. Sounds like you only know the video side. Those wrist locks tear tendons when actually performed and yes there is even practice with real world resistance. This is done in training and not in demonstration. Your question should be why don't they show this in demonstrations.
@foxybrown2 in fact, when he couldn't throw me around like a little girl, he got very upset at me and told me that i didn't understand the principles of aikido and that i had to give way to him in order to not be hurt... problem was that even though i resisted, he still could not "hurt me" or throw me around like a little girl. then when i asked him to give me resistance, he asked me to leave the dojo. watch tomiki aikido to see what happens when people are allowed to resist...
@foxybrown2 the first 2 aikido dojos i went to told me that i was not allowed to train with them if i was going to "resist" in class. the 3rd aikido dojo i went to, i did not tell them i was going to resist. i cooperated the whole entire class. then at the end, i asked their instructor a question about technique. then when he asked me grab his wrist... i did so... and when he tried to wrist lock me... I RESISTED... he was not able to execute his technique. i am a judo player of 10 years.
I think people believe aikido isnt real because of all the flipping around. Let me inform you, they do that so they dont get their arms snapped. In a real life situation, bones would break. The flipping is so the students dont meet with an emergency room visit.
I think in hand to hand, martial arts wins, just about hands down, but nothing can save you from any kind of gun if you aren't within reach of the gun.
@dennyufc Every student of any art needs to put his own expression into the craft, find his own way of making it work, or else it will be truly dead.. I find realaikiboy's version very true to traditional Aikido, and a good expression of the art. But in fact, I can't really see any significant difference between this and other versions of Aikido -for better or worse..
@okebasoccerplayer His technique is good but I agree that it seems very aggressive. But, would it work on the street for survival, well hell yes! Still, he uses a lot of energy dancing around. I don't believe in the bad ass image and that he could demonstrate true ki by doing the techniques as easily as he would walk around, as the founder of the art would have wanted. But what the hell do I know? I just studied aikido for 15 years, that's all.
In the mid 1980s I watched a 2nd dan woman BB in aikido take on three large men in a demonstration. She weighed no more than 150 and was 5'5". What happened in 4 minutes made me quit tae kwon do and promise myself I'd never mess with an aikido chick if I wanted to see my next birthday. I met Bill Wallace at a demo and he was unbelievable. But this woman was Miyamoto Musashi reborn!
qbest aikido demo ever. you actual make aikido look like a martial art. not that steven seagal horse shit. respect. that shit would break your arm in alot too many places.
im doing aikido and i feel that is really effective. But a lot people dont know that the techniques that see on vids are pacifics, the reals technique are punches o beats on deadly zones. For example: Ryotetori Tenchinage , if you see that technique is with the hands opens but the real technique is a punch.
4th Kuy Aikido student here. Recently started practicing Krav Maga and I should say a lot of stuff they teach in Krav Maga class feels more effective if I apply what I know form Aikido, the most important being the ability to feel the direction of the attack and adopt to it, feel the flow of the opponent and redirect properly.
dis isn't even relevant to self-defence :D dis is more of a technique demo not street fightin...I wanna see dis guy attacked on da street for real see if he'll have the time to spin somebody around like dat...
@RottweilerForce I assume you're better then? Aikido works very well. Gozo Shioda went to downtown Tokio often to look for fights with Yakuza (Japanese mafia). Sometimes he had a fight with 5 people at the same time. Try that yourselves.
@FearThisChannel Im not saying Aikido is bad!!! All im saying is that this video is not good enough to show proper street defence :) offcourse it all depens all the fighter...a great aikidoka can fight a random street fighter and still loose, its not just up to the martial art .
if somebody want to lear aikido just to break somebody's bone or to beat someone then they shouldn't take this martial art. Because aikido teach not to harm opponent but to defense yourself and practice to have a peaceful mind.
True, it does take many years to move in such an instinctive way. When I was 21 about to start grad school ( after many years of studying striking arts ). I began studying Judo ( and competing ) and also started working part time as a bouncer in some very rough places.. After a few months I began to stay for the Aikido class ( to use less muscle and more technique in Judo ) . I found when I was "working" that in Aikido "close enough" works just fine !
Awesome...in so many ways but.......someone looking to be able to defend themselves will hav to work for so many ...many years before being able to move in such an instinctive / trained way.
I have practised aikido for about 6 months (a few years ago) and after i stopped I started muay thai, which i've been practicing for 3 years now.. I must say muay thai is so much more effective than aikido is..
@MCDDTracks Its difficult When you practice in 6 month's..... but if you had a 3th dan you can feel the way of aikido.... I practice aikido like 2 years...
Beeing touched in any way possible equals a knockout in less than 3 seconds, if thats not self defense..... Aikido IS one of the best martial arts out there, very hard to master like this man though, And the *victim* rolls and everything because he doesnt want his ARM broke, look closely, he is LIFTED in the air often !
why in the world do people think that aikido does not work. tell you what why don't you none believing people go to a aikido dojo and try your luck and sign the waver just in case they break something on you LoL
@foxybrown2 i agree with you, cause i train it, and everybody that i talk to is sceptacle, but what is this aikido??? i train yoshinkan, and the principles in aikido are a little bit different than this aikido..
@foxybrown2 I've been in aikido dojos, including one with one of Morihei Ueshiba's students as the instructor (Tri Sensei); I was impressed with Mr. Tri, thought he was legit (he was highly skilled in various martial arts, including competetive judo), but his students didn't seem to have a clue as to what a real fight would be like. There were some nice folks there but they seemed to think cooperative dancing like the stuff seen here would prepare them to defend theirselves. Wishful thinking.
@foxybrown2 i thumbed you up. anybody that takes on an aikido practicioner will get killed if they have no knowledge, or even if they have some.
by the way, rickson gracie would never get thrown by an aikido practicioner, or a judoka, or a sambo black belt. it only happened once, to a judoka, on the judoka home turf, (ok city). he never lost a bjj match either. rickson gracie is the best MMA fighter of all time (minus strikes)
@foxybrown2 Same reason they think that other systems do not work. Either they have never trained in the art and are making an ignorant uneducated observation or they were not skilled or knowledgable enough to make it work and so instead of trying harder and getting better, they went to look for something easier.
@foxybrown2 i personally wouldnt way it doesnt work, its just that it takes a very long time to master enough of it to be usefull compared to other styles. so people with no patience or will to dedicate a part of their life in training would quit early and claim it doesnt work at all and dismiss it as worthless. some people need to learn how to defend themselfes as soon as possible and aikido being a long-term infestment just wouldnt cut it for them. so some of them end up dissing the style
If you did then you would know why there was no challenge.
You are correct in that it takes precision and timing and practice. You have to attend Aikido like a Golf Pro approaches the game. You have to put your heart and soul into it and it takes years and even then you may not be that good at it when compared to others. Many Golf players pour their heart into golf and while they are better than average, they are not good enough for pro.
@travismccullough1938 Aikido is a very precise Art. IF mastered, then it is dominating. That is where the Hype comes from - Those that have mastered. I studied for 7 years. I also took Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu was much better for the short term. FYI: I have a CCW and Conceal Carry a .357 on top of my training. Hand to hand is a last resort for me - even though I fought competition in Jiu Jitsu.
@travismccullough1938 Your choice, I am also a veteran. I also hold a Secret Clearance. I have also submitted my fingerprints and background to the FBI. My background is super clean. Don't know about you. The freedoms you enjoy were paid for by the blood of others. Just a fact. There are truly evil people in the world that like the fact that you are scared. Be safe.
FYI: Not much Oxygen on other planets. Good luck with that.

@frankgon4 OK... OK... I'm sorry... I don't understand AIKIDO... can you explain why in TOMIKI AIKIDO tournaments, people are able to resist without getting their tendons snapped off? Why don't we see people being thrown around like little ragdolls? What's the deal?
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago
@frankgon4 WAIT... you mean in training there is actually some practice with REAL WORLD resistance? SHIT MAN... What does it look like? Does it look anything like TOMIKI AIKIDO? Because Tomiki Aikido doesn't look anything like a demonstration... why do you show guys flipping about like ragdolls when in REAL PRACTICE that doesn't happen? Is it to beef up enrollment at the gym? I mean... is it a business decision to do that with all of Aikido as a whole?
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago
@frankgon4 really my friend, your example of 50 inmates is quite disappointing... you should have said what about just 1 guy with a gun standing at 5 meters... don't you think that would be more REALISTIC... REALISM is the crux of my argument... Your example is RIDICULOUS. When are you ever going to run into 50 prison inmates on the street? Also... when are you ever going to run into a guy who will just GIVE HIS WRIST to you? See where I'm going with this? TOMIKI AIKIDO TOURNAMENTS. WATCH!
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago
@frankgon4 Seriously my friend... what you probably meant to say was that from your experience, when you give your wrist to the defender and let him establish a secure grip and apply the technique, your tendons are torn if you don't go with the throw. Of course man... of course if you just give your wrist to the guy and let him SECURE the lock, of course your tendons are going to be torn... at that point, he's got tremendous leverage... he's going to wrip your wrist right off your arm!

@lillymill so you are saying that because in tomiki tournaments, that since the defender is not allowed to strike the attacker, then that is the reason we don't see any ragdoll throws? do i understand you correctly? why do you believe that just because you are allowed to strike, that your strikes will be 100% effective or that you will be able to ragdoll your opponent?
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago
@lillymill what if in a real situation, the attacker is not a complete idiot? what if he has a bit of experience... so that he was not in a "hurry" to grab you or punch you? what if the attacker was a black belt in Judo? what if the attacker was a world champion boxer and also outweighs you by 15-20 kilos? what if the attacker was a professional wrestler like Hulk Hogan and he had 20 inch biceps? Can you even imagine how thick Hulk Hogan's wrists must be? Could you even grab them?
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago
@aikidoisthebombyeah From my experience, if you don't go with the throw - Tendons are torn.
The what if's are funny. We can do lot's of what if's. What if Mike Tyson was jumped by 50 prison inmates, what if.... and on and on.
frankgon4 1 year ago
I would give this man $50,000 in cash if he can do these moves on George St. Pierre. Just one not all of them. I'd love to see you flip GSP on his ass. Wait, actually no one can. This is not what Aikido is about. He is doing it fast and looks like if this was a street self-defense he is breaking rule number 1 and that is peace and harmony. O'Sensei never taught this to any of his students what is shown on this video is what I am reffering to.
tomgunc 1 year ago
@tomgunc While GSP is a great fighter, he is not undefeated and I have seen him thrown on his arrse.
O'Sensei did teach this. I have actual black and white video footage of him throwing people around. He is very old in the video.
frankgon4 1 year ago
@foxybrown2 can you explain why in tomiki aikido tournaments, when the attacker is allowed to resist against the aikidoka, that we don't see anything remotely similar to the demonstration seen above? we don't see the attacker getting tossed around like a ragdoll... why is that?
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago
@aikidoisthebombyeah
Lillymill 1 year ago
@foxybrown2 you act as if it's everyone else's fault for not believing that aikido works in real life... when in fact it's aikido's fault... you guys never train with real resistance... only against training partners that attack mindlessly... you guys don't even teach your students counters to those wristlocks... why not? you do realize that there are counters to virtually all those locks. why don't you teach them? is it because it is against the way of aikido?
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago
@aikidoisthebombyeah Your funny. Sounds like you only know the video side. Those wrist locks tear tendons when actually performed and yes there is even practice with real world resistance. This is done in training and not in demonstration. Your question should be why don't they show this in demonstrations.
frankgon4 1 year ago
@foxybrown2 in fact, when he couldn't throw me around like a little girl, he got very upset at me and told me that i didn't understand the principles of aikido and that i had to give way to him in order to not be hurt... problem was that even though i resisted, he still could not "hurt me" or throw me around like a little girl. then when i asked him to give me resistance, he asked me to leave the dojo. watch tomiki aikido to see what happens when people are allowed to resist...
aikidoisthebombyeah 1 year ago

The flipping is so the students dont meet with an emergency room visit.

dennyufc 1 year ago 23

What happened in 4 minutes made me quit tae kwon do and promise myself I'd never mess with an aikido chick if I wanted to see my next birthday. I met Bill Wallace at a demo and he was unbelievable.

@FearThisChannel Im not saying Aikido is bad!!! All im saying is that this video is not good enough to show proper street defence :) offcourse it all depens all the fighter...a great aikidoka can fight a random street fighter and still loose, its not just up to the martial art .

DandDskeeto 1 year ago
Awesome...in so many ways but.......someone looking to be able to defend themselves will hav to work for so many ...many years before being able to move in such an instinctive / trained way.

srennug2009 1 year ago
@foxybrown2 I've been in aikido dojos, including one with one of Morihei Ueshiba's students as the instructor (Tri Sensei); I was impressed with Mr. Tri, thought he was legit (he was highly skilled in various martial arts, including competetive judo), but his students didn't seem to have a clue as to what a real fight would be like. There were some nice folks there but they seemed to think cooperative dancing like the stuff seen here would prepare them to defend theirselves. Wishful thinking.
Brucemee 1 year ago

@foxybrown2 every martial art works, but this is clearly footage of a non resisting opponent! the result wouldn't look so pretty if he wasn't
singhakabuttar 1 year ago
@foxybrown2 i personally wouldnt way it doesnt work, its just that it takes a very long time to master enough of it to be usefull compared to other styles. so people with no patience or will to dedicate a part of their life in training would quit early and claim it doesnt work at all and dismiss it as worthless. some people need to learn how to defend themselfes as soon as possible and aikido being a long-term infestment just wouldnt cut it for them. so some of them end up dissing the style

@travismccullough1938 I thought you took Aikido??
