  • Mike Love dressed for a beheading.

  • It wouldn't hurt for Mike to brush up on his French a bit, considering his utter failure at the start of "Do It Again".

  • What an awsome live version of breakaway. To get the full harmonies from just Carl, Al, Bruce and Mike was amazing. How the Beach Boys were able to pull off complex harmonies and leads live will always make them a unique rock band.

  • typical charisma-free perf. from a--hole Mike Love.

  • From his actions here it is easy to understand why so many people dislike Mike Love. Doe he think he is actually funny?? How embarressing!!

  • mike love would show later in the early 70's that he could be a capable speaker for the group, but here he just makes me roll my eyes, what a social backwards person he was

  • This is SO up there with some of the very best footage. Could watch again and again.

  • at 833 you can hear al yell" ill sing the high" and carls fingers telling him to wait or something

  • wow breakaway live so underated and amazing vocals one of the best

  • Capitol Records should put out stuff like this, lost live performances. Late 60's early 70's there is plenty of material.

  • Absolutely perfect live "Break Away".

  • Amazing footage - great to see what the "Live In London" sets looked like live. Thanks for posting this - great stuff!

Hopefully some footage from the '72-73 tours will emerge - the other great Beach Boys live lineup with Ricky Fataar and Blondie Chaplin.

  • @mysteron09 i second this. I've often wondered why so few video's remain of Blondie and Rickie.

  • Why didn't they let ed carter play bass on EVERY song?(sorry bruce)

  • @gittahfiend why didn't they ever let Ed Carter be a "real" band member- he was around nearly as long as Bruce....

  • Sloop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant!

  • Where was this recorded ?

  • @BeachBoysGuy1 Paris on June 16, 1969

  • DonZabu - where did you find/get this? A classic!

Love hearing Dennis call out for his dad and hearing Break Away at the time of its release. With so little crowd noise it becomes obvious how good they were at reproducing both the vocal and instrumental sound of their records. Few groups at the time were capable of live versions of their intricate sounding tunes of the late 60's.

  • @BB45s Murry Wilson, the dad, co-wrote this gem "Break Away" with Brian under the ghost name of Reggie Dunbar.

  • @TheBeachboys4ever One day I hope to discover the real story behind the claim that Murry co-wrote the song. My guess (and a guess is all that it is) is that he suggested the title or concept. I have a recordnig of Carl mentioning how Murry was back helping in the studio (he had been fired at the Help Me Rhonda sessions a few years back).

  • @BB45s I suggest you get the book "Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys the Complete Guide to their Music" by Andrew G. Doe and John Tobler. It's in there, and it is a great, song-by-song, reference guide. You can find it on Amazon.

  • @BB45s Brian has stated several time in interviews that Murry wrote almost all the words, and that the title came from a TV show where the host said (I paraphrase) "and now we'll break away to some ads".

  • @AGD55 ... Thanks - What an interesting dynamic that must have been for the Wilsons after all that went down over the early years of the Beach Boys recording and touring and selling Sea of Tunes and ...

  • DonZabu - where did you find/get this? - Sound board recording? A classic!
