  • How could i forget this blizzard haha. When it hit jersey,we got hammered with atleast 3 or more feet of snow, and didn't have school for about 2 and a half weeks thanks to the cold fronts which turned most of the roads into solid ice.

  • Such a snow job!

  • wasn't 1993 a La Nina year climatically?.

  • @redoctober90 nerd.

  • I think this is the only time we had an actual blizzard warning in Pittsburgh. And, wow, they actually included thundersnow in the forecast!

  • Isn't the WeatherStar 4000 still used in some areas? And if so, where?

  • @gsnfan1416 Parts of State College, PA, still have the WS4000 in action (only the east side of town, where the cable company is Windstream Communications.) Most are older mom-n-pop cable companies, although there have been rumors that some Comcast headends still have the 4000s in action.

  • @gsnfan1416 we still have the same local forcast. Its time for a change

  • @gsnfan1416 they have a list of where the 4000 is still used on wikipedia

  • @gsnfan1416 Somerset, PA and Seven Springs, PA still have it

  • your weatherstar booted a little early

  • Wow on my birthday

  • I always found it fascinating that this song originally was on the 1st quarter 1992 playlist and then reappeared in the next playlist. The new playlist had overhauled narration but this particular flavor/song still kept the original narration from 1992.

  • o.o 19999 views

  • Does anyone know the music?

  • There are some Cable Companies still using the WS 4000 to this day.

  • was that rescue 911 in the very split second beginning? lol

  • No it was the Code 3 video. You can watch it, it's on my Youtube channel.

  • @deronmillercky2 You can watch rescue 911, too by going to these YT users' channels: "allgood2000" and "beatlemoe"

  • a once in 20 year storm

  • and to think THAT JUST HAPPENED!

  • No it didnt not even close 93 was a "superstorm" a triple phaser .. totally diferent animal

  • true but just about the same amount of snow for me.

  • the snowfall wasnt enormous from 93' but the pressure and wind speeds were . its not often you get all 3 jet streams to collide and bomb out a triple phazer superstorm

  • Joe Denasrdo said we would only get 2-4 inches out of this storm when we got 28 inches

  • The snow came down so hard that day and I saw lightning and heard thunder!

  • I WAS BORN THAT DAY!

  • i was in that storm with a F2 tornado :O

  • this is priceless!!!! thank you

  • Is that John Bunnell at the way beginning of the video?

  • Looks like Gil Gerrard to me.

  • love it

  • "BLIZZARD WARNING" or similar, does seem familiar.

I remembered this event, at least part of it, when in Rutland, Vermont.

It did get at least somewhat windy. But the snow seemed powdery. Which is RARE in March!

  • There is a storm similar to this by February 2nd-4th, but this time the I-95 Corridor may get the Heaviest Snow. I will closely monitor this situation in the next few days. ;)

  • The Superstorm Threat has been Cancelled, but although there is a Dynamically Driven Cyclogenesis that will form off the East Coast by Mid-February and it will likely intensify, but the storm track is still uncertain. I will monitor this situation carefully when the month wears on. Trust me, I know the weather to a certain extent. ;)

  • what kind of outlook do you have going into march here?

  • It looks cold and stormy for the first few days and a Nor'easter from March 1st-3rd with Moderate to Heavy snow and sleet in the Tri-State area. :o

  • Stop trying to speak meteorolgist lingo and act like you actually know what you're talking about, trust me nobody is impressed and nobody trusts your close "monitoring" of the situation.

I have more meteorology background than you, stop sprouting false wisdom your passionate is commendable and i encourage you to study meteorology post high school and try to make a career out of it. For now though, be humble yet interested.

  • And I have 10x the meteorological knowledge of the two of you combined because I'm actually (at this time next year) going to be a meteorologist.

Chill out or don't post ;)

  • what is the name of this song playing? I was in lancaster county during this storm, After it was over we had snow drifts 20ft high, They had to use V Dozer plows to carve out the roads, It looked like you were driving through tunnels the drifts were that big!

  • OK, OK! Easy on the comments there, chico! I get your point.

  • I want the entire east coast to get pasted with snow! A colder stormier pattern is expected in mid to late January 2009!

I love to watch the kids and the pets to have fun!

  • The Pittsburgh National Weather Service called this forecast almost 2 weeks in advance!

What I wonder is why cant they forecast these great Lakes cutters which bring the Ohio Valley rain! The winter of 2008 and 2009is disgusting!

  • I saw lightning, heard thunder and witnessed snow coming down at a rate of 3 inches an hour

  • I live in Washington County, the county just south of Pittsburgh and man we got nailed!

  • WPXI Pittsburgh has a clip on this storm! Go to you tube and you will find other great clips! Also try KDKA television and channel 4 action news here in Pittsburgh

  • Why no snow in 2008-2009?

A persistent weather pattern where the jet streams do not phase and cold air is locked in the pacific northwest. Then these storms in the northwest take a track through the central plains and then shoot through the central great lakes where warm air is pumped in east of of the low!

  • Pittsburgh got 2-3 feet!

  • 38 inches of snow at my house!

  • Why is it that I felt smarter watching this then I do watching 21st Century Weather Channel?

  • They turned the channel into a form of entertainment instead of just reporting the weather. Plus, this old school local forecast seems more "nerdy" it's not presented in the way it is now. Now they have all these fancy icons and what not and the letters on this forecast look like something the guy at the National Weather Service would be reading.

  • A 6 year-old operating a VCR to record weather clips??

  • I was damned precocious. ;)

  • You are so lucky, I wish I would of recoreded TWC back prior to the 2005 relaunch. The old TWC was alot better.

  • @xreddragonx It can happen.

  • WOW, thats OLD school weather channel ha ha

  • Pittsburgh and areas south had 8 foot drifts!

  • I was eleven when this happend. We got a ton of snow in alabama. I miss those days when weather was weather, not these crappy snow showers and warm winters.

  • i was born a year and 2 weeks after this

  • I was a senior in high school in North Dakota when this happened. I miss some of the music they used to use during the local forecast.

  • I remember this! Holy cow! And it even snowed in some Gulf Coast states too!

  • I am from Washington Pa and will never forget the Blizzard!

  • gahhhh i was born in 1994 i want ANOTHER ONE!!lucky

  • Why doesn't the narration by Dan Chandler say "Your local 36-hour forecast from the National Weather Service." This was after "From the National Weather Service" was added to the narration when the this play list started in August 1992.

  • Because the song was recycled from the April 1992 playlist, which did not say "from the National Weather Service."

  • What a clever post! great job! Its funny I can remember eating out that friday (I am from McKees Rocks and was in 6th grade)and looking out the window seeing light snow (at about 4pm recalling that Joe DeNardo predicted only a few inches from this storm a few days earlier. School got cancelled on Monday and Tuesday, and we built an igloo in our back yard.

  • That's neat. I was I wasn't 2 when this happened, I wanna know what it was like that Friday night. At least I was in the 6th grade for the 2003 storm.

  • If I recall correctly, things didn't get bad until Saturday. Friday was maybe light snow or flurries I think. Especaially immediately after school around 4 or so, nothing on the ground yet. But not only did the snow come in that Sat but the wind was kicking up making it a true blizzard.

  • Oh I really wish I could have seen that. I bet that Saturday was crazy.

  • yeah that was classic DeNardo, always super conservative

i remember going to brashear h.s. that day for a competition, it was tough getting back to the west end/crafton heights where i lived

  • This SHOULD HAVE happened again this previous weekend (3-8) but the stupid was too far west, nad not as heavy snow totals but who would have known since there'd probably be more moisture with it if it were farther east.

  • I had all kinds of footage on this storm and some others that got accidentally erased so I appreciate you putting this on here! Brings back nice memories!!!

  • I live south of Pittsburgh in Washington and we got 26 inches that day!

  • Maybe have somthing like wtae, kdka, or wpxi weather or news clips about the storm?

  • I'm going to get a WPXI clip up when I can get it encoded off the tape (my DVR is acting funny at the moment).

  • sweet make sure you tell me cause i dont get on all the time!

  • OK, it's up. Look on my page for details.

  • Can't you get more of the forcast. Do you have anything else form the Blizzard of 1993? Please?!!?

  • I don't have the tape with me at this time but I will put more videos up when I can afford the time (I go to school at the same time and usually I have to find, edit, encode, and post the vids.

  • WPXI does have Superstorm coverage.

  • It's getting closer! I live in Pittsburgh also, but I have virtually no memory of this and that sucks! I was 2 so that's why.

  • What is the part on the very beginning of the video about (with the person), and can you post that here?

  • The part you see on there is described below. I have the tape being shipped up, and if you want, I can post it (but I guarantee you've probably seen that story already a million times.) I don't remember the guy's name, though.

  • Ahhh thats great... Considering that I live in pittsburgh... whats the chances?

  • Priceless material!

  • Can anybody identify what show is playing at like the first second of the video before it goes to the Local Forecast?

  • That would be "Code 3", which aired after COPS Saturdays on Fox. (On a side note, the segment on the tape was the famed "underpass tornado" story from April 26, 1991.)

  • If that show aired after Cops, then did America's Most Wanted air on a different day at that time?

  • Yea, I believe it did at that time - I think it was on before COPS perhaps. But I remember Code 3 being on after COPS.

  • It couldn't have been on before Cops because Fox always started their programming at 8PM (eastern).

  • Actually you were right. America's Most Wanted was on Tuesdays at that time, so it would have made sense that Code 3 aired after Cops on Saturdays.

  • that is so awesome that you were 6 when you recorded it. what other stuff did you save?

  • Mostly stuff from CNN and the local NBC affiliate, WPXI-11. I have to see what else is on that tape but I'm sure there's not a whole lot of TWC stuff from back then.

  • Do you have one with the travel cities segment on the same day? That would be nice to see.

  • Unfortunately, I'm afraid not. I just taped this one forecast that night (I was 6 years old at the time, and didn't understand all the different types of forecast.) Sorry about that.
