  • You are touching my knee Chet

  • Please, what's the name of the instrument at the beggining?

  • @danielstevan26 I believe you are hearing the resonator guitar that Chet is playing in the introduction of the song.

  • @rockinredneck57 No. I mean, the instrument at the right part. At the beggining looks like a steel guitar, isn't it?

  • What can I say, I miss Mr Guitar and will never forget Him.

  • Truth is EACH ONE has his own genius. Chet had a touch that no one else had at his time, and beats many up to today. Just like Cyril Pahinui has a touch that his Dad did not have and Pops had his own touch of genius that no one else could copy or come close to.

  • @62Elvis ummm Paul McCartney plays the bass and piano. By no means is he a guitar genius. If you like Chet you need to look into some Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits. He was by all means a true guitar genius as well, and actually made and album with Chet called "Neck to Neck".

  • @Igamikun Paul McCartney lays many instruments, not just bass and keyboards. But few have the pure talent that Chet had on guitar. Tommy Emmanuel is close, Jerry Reed was close and others are wonderful fingerpickers and some cover Chet very well, but he was the original. Roy Clark is very good, but he's not in Chet's class either. I'd say give a close look to those Chet gave the honorary CGP to. They are the cream of the crop of guitarists, not just friends.

  • @62Elvis ok BUT, james burton, glen campbell, jerry reed, roy clark, eric clapton & brian may ARE in the Genius category in My opinion.

  • im sure roy clark could play this too on guitar

  • chet kinda resembles george bush

  • JAJAJJAJAJA the ast part jajjaja

  • . . . You're not shooting arrows

  • Chet Atkins was, is and will be one of the best ever.

  • I can't stop listening to this song!

  • i can't find my fecking thumb pick aaaaaaaarrrrggghhhhhhhhhhhh

  • this bitch is annoying, chet atkins is awesome though

  • Funny bit at the end. 1,000 lessons with Chet Atkins sounds about right...

  • What a lovely scale, lovely piece. I love you chet.

  • @Joelzmusic Obviously you don't know anything about Ruth Buzzi. She was being her typical comedienne self.

  • CHET ATKINZ IS MY GREAT UNCLE!!!!

  • @ag567100 Yeah, if he were my uncle I'd call him great too.

  • @ag567100 you spelt your great uncles name wrong :/ Atkins*

  • @thephilster10 You spelled spelled wrong :/ You spelled it spelt!!

  • Uma guitarra Guitar Del Vechio (brazilian guitar)

  • LOL a thousand more lessons! And you "youngins" Ruth Buzzi was a comedian back in the day so it's suppose to be funny.

  • Badfinger, I'm sorry. Shouldn't have said it like that.

  • Comment removed

  • come on, it's Ruth Buzzi, it was supposed to be funny and it was.

  • that woman is retarted

  • OMG That woman is a complete dick and should never have even been aloud in the same room as Chet Atkins

  • @Joelzmusic She's a comedian (Laugh-In)... I think probably a joke.

  • @Joelzmusic

This a Ruth Buzzi characterization, part of her act in those days, seems dated now but back then she was at the top of her form

  • A true virtuoso of his instrument.

  • relaxing!!!

  • Maravilha musical com um intérpetre magistral. Brasil

  • a master guitar player

  • Oh chet i cant do it! obviously you dont want to learn if you dont want to listen and follow instructions you silly woman.

  • What a beautiful tune and performed by the best!!

  • He is hardcore teacher, alternate picking at first lesson:D

  • that is one bad ass guitar

  • I have a real soft spot for resonator guitars...I dont know why they arnt more popular among people my age 23...We are always wanting more volume.

  • @Guitarstring187 I'm 21 and I can't help but agree...I love the sound of resonators--with or without a slide! And I'd surely love to get a resonator one day.

  • @badfinger848 Why would anyone care that you are 21? No one gives a shit about your age.

  • @Alpha7xxx I only said that because the other person said that they don't understand why resonators aren't more popular with people that age. Why do you care that I mentioned my age? It's not like I told you that you were an idiot or anything...in fact, I didn't even insult you. Now, I kind of want to though.

  • @badfinger848 I shouldn't have said that without knowing the context. I'm sorry.

  • 4 people thought this couldn't be for real, they thought they had been rickrolled and pressed the dislike button!

  • this brings a tear to my eye. so beautiful

  • I wonder who got all of Chesters money after he passed away???

  • way to jump him with a fucking stupid gimmick. painful.

  • Amazing!!

  • I want Chet back :(((( GOD PLZ BRING CHET BACK, WE WILL GIVE U ANY NOWADAYS SINGER IN RETURN !!

  • @badbom92 Give God Beiber and we`ll take Chet back.. Win Win for everybody -;o)

  • awww, Chet is sooo gentle with the "first timer" ladies!

  • Hi Mary

  • 4 people need to get out of their little world and start liking this..

  • <3 this song so much

  • He taught the guitar how to sing !!

  • que lindo suena esa guitarra

  • just awesome

  • Ruth Buzzie. Comedian from laugh-in tv show.

  • geniaallllllll

  • I love this so much !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • chet atkins is so cool

  • Damn! Look at that Guitar!

  • Well done Chet, it takes me back to when my Wife & I were at the Cultural Centre in OAHU I believe that;s where Elvis sang that song in the movie when he was getting married, Hawaii is the Heaven of the Earth, Agnes & Robert

  • Ruth Buzzi needs to put her foot in her mouth.

  • is this in slack key?

  • @j0hnkeeem Likely. Alternate tunings are very common among guitarists of his caliber.

  • @KimJongSick do you know the tuning?

  • lmao you'll have to come back for about a thousand more lessons...the guy was so smooth xD

  • i always cry at this as my dad played this all the time RIP dad love you lots

  • i got the painfully uncomfortable high stool blues

  • That chick makes me want to shove a chop stick in my eye and swirl my brain around. Chet was a god. Wish he was still here with us, but he had to go home.

  • Someone shoot that woman.

  • haha Chet. So many great lines :D "You're not shootin' arrows here"

  • Dumb beezies from the past.

  • Beautiful playing

  • In California in the 1970s this was popular to be played at weddings.

  • que sentimiento!

  • Chet is always good. I found myself singing along with this, I love Hawaiian music Chet does it good

  • It seems to be a Brasilian Del Vechio

  • Que bueno!!!

  • here's our humble version of this classic...my boss on piano and i on vocals....performed at a community event in honolulu hawaii...thanks for viewing...

  • i hope chet atkins song is inside my heart

all of his song make me relaxed ~

  • awesome guitar for an awesome guitarist!

  • That man is just GREAT !!

    500 ******

    Eric - Studio ChinChan

  • Rai fosenk rui ri chiri ken aind duin

  • 本当に最高です。

  • 波が

    聞こえてくるような、音色ですね!

    最高です♡♡♡♡♡〜

  • I was quite mad the other day, so I came here first. I love this song; it's so calming!

  • Looks like a wooden dobro

  • Like it's been said here before, it is a brazilian Del Vecchio.

  • big!

  • what an awfull looking guitar but great guitar player :)

  • in my opinion he is the best guitarist i have heard

  • Me Too.

  • Yeah, he's up there with Phill Keaggy

  • what the hell? chets way better than phil keaggy

  • @Pamathey hahahaha

  • I agree way better by leaps and bounds.

  • On the Del Vecchio: I played one once, and they are really interesting! Not loud or especially well made, but nothing else sounds like one. There's no truss rod, so the string of choice is a light guage silk and steel, also not known for being loud.

  • Is she crying for real? Or was that even her crying or laughing really strangely like shes crying?

  • She's just joking around.

  • Alright.

  • He's not only a master of technique but expression as well. He could play anything and it would sound amazing.

  • Getting married next FRI, I hope I can find this on CD somewhere!

    Lovely Aloha.

  • Chet is the man at 1:01

  • WONDERFUL

    not a better sound

  • But you forget about 2 of the other greatest players on earth. Johnny Gimble, and Mark Oconnor, and Doc watson God bless him is one of the greatest.

  • You mean Johnny Gimble the fiddle player?

  • Oh ya and so much more. He is absolutely one the finest just all around musicians. Also a fantastic guitarist.

  • Mannnnnnnnnnnn, it´s a Dell Vecchio guitar? Somebody know about it?

  • I know it's got a beautiful sound... especially in the hands of the master. Sorry... probably not much help.

  • i hate it when people screwing around when they trying t play the guitar.. especially infront of chet atkins

  • @jagermeister5 agreed!

  • @jagermeister5 Yes - they should keep out of it and have some respect

  • Wow, it's been so long since I've seen this video. Thanks for replying.

I watched Tommy Emanuel play 'Over the Rainbow' and 'Classical Gas' after reading your suggestion. He is really good. Also a bit of a crazy man when he gets into it which I think is awsome.

I guess what I was trying to say in my earlier comments was that musicians like these two are getting harder and harder to find.

    Thanks again for suggesting him.

  • arent prodigies great?

  • Yes most certainly. And i didnt catch any arguement about her going to be as good as chet when shes 20 either. This girl at 13 is fantastic. Watch her at the caas in nashville videos. She outplays almost evrybdy

  • this guitar is Del Vecchio from Brazil.

  • this guitar is Del Vecchio from Brazil.

  • It is a resonator guitar. They're usually set up with high action to play with a slide, but it looks like he has this one set up to play normally.

  • That woman is not worthy to stand in the masters presence, let alone annoys him with her pathetic jokes and frivolotry. Me, everyone who like guitars, and all the characters in Lord of the Rings should go to her home and destroy her.

  • She is really really annoying. But I guess humour moves on with time...

  • It is so hard to play slow compared to fast licks. Chet was a master at it. Sadly, there are few people that still play in this style but I believe it will come back, as its too beatiful to stay away forever.

  • truly amazing!

  • I do believe Mr. Atkins had to have played just about every kind of guitar ever made! haha, always wonderful to see him play though, no matter what kind of guitar it is....

  • This one is particularly pretty too. But that's sort of irrelevant compared to the playing!

  • ruth buzzi is a clown.

  • 潮騒と波の音が聞こえてきそうです。Chet Atkinsは上手い!アップ有難う〜〜

  • I learned a lot of licks from this man's records..I finaly saw him live in the 70's..truly amazing...a one man band..he was and still is the greatest guitar player America has every had...

  • Ruth Buzzi thinks she's funny but you can tell Chet is like "I've had enough with this beeyotch"

  • Watching videos like this pisses me off because it just reminds me how I was born about thirty-five years too late, and I missed all the great musicians.

He seems like such an awsome guy.

  • You and I feel equally out of place given the time of our births. I wouldn't have minded being born much longer ago than I was, just so I could listen to things such as this and consider them contemporary. Chet Atkins was, indeed, an awesome guy, and he was just one of many bright stars in the dark sky of music back then.

There prevails some talent today, but so much of it is now lost to time, preserved only in recordings.... sad, eh?

  • Yeah it is sad. What most upsets me is that the only thing future generations will have from my time are boy bands and the pop stars that the Disney company created.

  • amen man im a teenager in the wrong generation too =[

  • Yes, I feel the same way. But ya know, maybe God put us in this time for a reason ya know? Maybe it's the ones like us who should help carry on real music to our kids and their generation, and their kids even. Someone has to carry the torch on.

  • true. i wont let it die as long as im alive =]

  • @C1o88er3d

hey buddy, dont forget those great classic musician, i love their performance alot also... such as andrea boccelli and his friends!!!

  • @C1o88er3d you know the wrong music man

  • @C1o88er3d so agree!

  • @C1o88er3d Tommy Emmanuel.

  • Simply beautiful. Now I know when the other established guitarists of this day refer to Chet Atkins as a model and guide. A master.

  • you can touch his hearth when his playing his guitar, very simple man with amazing talent...

  • Ruth Buzzi got beat with the ugly stick!

  • 精典那!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's VERY SPECIAL !

  • I love this song. Also tahitian skies or something like that, ( i don't really know how to write it) are such beautiful songs.

  • he's the best

  • always enjoyed Chet, he'll be missed.

    Jim J.

  • I dont understand how someone can rate music like these below five stars. :/

  • That guitar Chet's playing is a Brazilian made Del Vecchio, which used silk & steel strings. Nato Lima of Los Indios Tabajaras sold that one to him! They truly are wonderful sounding instruments...

  • Chet Atkins = Guitar God

  • Chet always knew the perfect melodies to play.

  • wish we could hear the pedal-steel more! so nice

  • wicked tune chet

..that woman does not know what is going on

  • Great playing!

  • That wooden resonator guitar sounds great; not too bright but still punchy. And of course, a rubber band/cigar box guitar would sound great in Chet's hands. And Chet and Ruth are great together. Thanks for posting!

  • Yes it is Hawaiian Wedding Song! Played with such beauty and elegance as only Chet Atkins can play it. He is one of the greatest guitarists ever!

    Johnny

  • Legends Chet Atkins and Ruth Buzzi were so great together, and this was a better time in Television, wasn't it?

  • I believe this is the Hawaiian Wedding Song, rather than Malaguena. As usual, Chet plays beautifully.

  • correct you are!

  • Quite right. Not sure how I made that mistake. But it's fixed now.
