  • Did Big Edie hae agorophobia? Is that why she never left?

  • @NazcarFanatic24 no, she absolutely loved new york and the big city, but she had to stay home because of her mother.

  • Little Edie was beautiful. She was truly a star. Shame only few of us see that. She was very intelligent yet eccentric. But NOT CRAZY, actually far from it. Of course she was different, She lived in isolation for over a decade. & Big Edie though very loving, was Batshit, Yes, BATSHIT insane. & subconsiously ruined her daughters chance on life because she didn't want to live hers alone. Little Edie could have made it as big as Betty Davis or Audrey Hepburn in her own little way. R.I.P sweetie

  • its cool how this really parallels the musical version. im glad the musical didnt totally massacre the documentary.

  • I love these two women - not sure why - it's the peculiar contrast between their obvious pedigrees and class and the utter horror they lived in. Both of them were exceptionally beautiful women. Fascinating.

  • Geez, for an older woman Little Edie had great legs!! too bad these women lived such squalor.

  • This is such an amazing doc. ! The first reality show !

  • wow ...

  • Thanks SO MUCH for putting this up. After wading through 50 videos of Drew Barrymore, Christine Ebersole and various random people acting out the Beales, I FINALLY find the real thing. I'm glad so many people are interested in the Beales, but I'm not interested in the fakes!

  • They had money for a handyman?

  • Does anyone know what the deal was with little Edies hair? You can see she is nearly bald under the more transparent scarves. Just curious.

  • @beatnikmgk she had alopecia, a stress-related or autoimmune illness that causes women's hair to fall out.

  • @squeapler Thank you for the info. I wondered if it was that, but wasn't sure. :)

  • @beatnikmgk she suffered from alopecia universalis (it basically makes your hair fall out) and there really isnt any cure for it...

You asked like a month ago lol but just letting you know :)

  • She had two brothers, I do not understand their abandoment.

  • Edie looks happy & content even though she claims that she would like to leave Grey Gardens. A successful life is being happy and not necessarily wealthy.

  • @darlinkula1 I think she looks trapped. In the isolation she created, she developed a life. I so love this film:)

  • to me letting your surrounding deteroate is a form of illness ..sad a family of so much class and fame went to the cats

  • everybody should be free to pursuit his own happiness.....i can't see a mental illness here.

  • No matter how much breeding or money, some people will always be unkempt and unable to sustain a household in sanitary condition. Just watch Hoarders. It's a mental illness; Edie could have done so much in her life-yet she chose to be a reclusive eccentric. Sad.

  • @rynwin1 I think that's a really unfair and rather condescending comment. Edie lived the only life she knew how to live, or handle. Whatever she -could- have done with her life is pointless as it was her life, and her's to live, not be lived or fulfilled according to your expectations. To say that being unkempt or unsanitary is a manifestation of mental illness is ridiculous and, frankly, blinkered.

  • little edie really wanted to go didn't she

  • the house is still there, newly renovated ....beautiful. its owned by a newscaster, and his wife and caretaker lives there year round...the owners only spend the traditional summer months there...

  • Does the house still exist?

  • Thanks for putting this on. Does anyone know the address of the house to do a Google Earth?

  • @MsMesem The address is 3 West End Rd. East Hampton, New York

  • They could live the way they liked. Their life that's all. No one have the right to judge them.

  • its sad what happen to these ladies

  • "Who's she?... The cat?"

These women are so entertaining!!! I wish they would've found happiness.

  • I just learned about this story today. Why would anyone want to watch a movie about two crazy old women living like pigs in the midst of squalor? How depressing. Why were they not put into a mental institution where they belong? Instead, they get movies made about them. Pathetic!

  • @Yesica1993 There not pathetic unfortunately the mother’s sickness trapped her daughter! Have a heart that’s the reason the world is in the turmoil it is in now people judge other before really knowing there situation, and what there really going through.

  • @PyRamesses Oh, spare me! You have no problem judging ME, calling a perfect stranger heartless.

That's the trouble with people - everything is either 1) someone else's fault or 2) a disease that they can't help. In other words, no personal responsiblity.

No one forces you to live in filth like that.

  • @Yesica1993 mental institution? by whose authority, young lady ?

  • @Yesica1993 then why are you on here?

  • love these 2 ladies

  • Can't thank you enough for this! You are awesome!
