Saw XTC perform when they opened for The Police in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom in 1980, the same place Al Capone used to frequent to see the popular bands of his day. XTC blew The Police away. I am not sure why XTC didn't have the popularity The Police had??
@jtg1961 I saw that same tour. They came to my town and Partridge had one of his bouts of stage fright and they didn't play. The Police were great. XTC not so much on that night.
I have never witnessed a more theatrical singer. Partridge does not simply reproduce an album-fit version of his vocals, he re-performs them with all manner of yelps and screeches and ironic facial gestures, all the while rocking back and forth with stiff legs like some kind of animated rocking horse. He brings a whole sack of histrionics onstage.
Cheers to Dave Gregory for playing stellar guitar throughout. The guy never misses a note.
I didn't realize how badass Dave is until watching this.

1:05:25 Dave Gregory, are you kidding me?? He nails the riff despite the speed of the performance.
