@syren345 It has nothing to do with age. It also depends on health and how well your body can handle altitude. Some people can't handle altitude so they can't climb Everest. It does go all the way down to genetics.

He has sponsors you stupid fuck. He also didn't join a commercial expedition, which is hugely more expensive then a private expedition. The permit fees are cheaper in Tibet then Nepal and only had 2 Sherpas.

@JDubs878 Don't be jealous because you haven't done it. There is a reason why over 200 people have died there. Unlike what you think it isn't a cake walk. The Northeast ridge he did near the top has a narrow walkway with 10,000 foot drops on either side, on minor slip and your dead. You can fall down crevasse 100s of feet deep or a 100 ton ice block can crush you instantly. If those don't get you, you can get HAPE or HACE, your brain swells and your lungs full with fluid until you die.

I think one or two of the other tallest-continent mountains are actually more difficult to climb than Everest, like the one in Antartica. Not taller, but harder. Not to mention the second-highest in the world and Everest's bastard cousin K2.

everest is by FAR the toughest climb of the seven summits, denali comes second. but all of the top ten toughest peaks are located in asia.

anyways, good luck to the kid. with good planning and a little luck with the weather he could do it, why not. as for me, i'd choose rock over snow anyday and avoid axes and crampons as much as i can. :P

They also dont really have sherpa support (and let's face, the sherpas make the climbers - including this kid - look like amateurs every day (and even the sherpas die regularly..) until their summit day.

His dad and his girlfriend have also never been on Everest.

@radicalhit He is going up the Northeast ridge which is technically more demanding then the southeast ridge however any mountain could kill you. He could come back do a 8000 ft scramble, and slip. The first American to climb Everest said that climbing mountains isn't all about skill it is more about luck, and that there is no climber better or worse then any other climber.
