@MrRazorblade999 Agree completely. Absurd, silly - and great entertainment! In other Noirs (Out of the Past,Lady from Shanghai, Touch of Evil,Secret beyond the door) Mexico is dangerous ground: populated by thugs, shady businessmen, knife-fighters, deadly femme fatales...Here the Mexicans(great: R.Navarro) just watch those crazy (U.S.)Americans chasing and betraying each other.
Cary Grant experimented with mind altering drugs and actually volunteered for an LSD study group. He was a voracious nonfiction reader and when he and Randolph Scott shared a house on the beach in Malibu Timothy OLeary visited. Mitch was set up on the marijuana arrest. The cops actually hid in the closet of a party he walked into and was handed one. No one else had one. It was pretty clear he was set up.
The 1945 movies and such years. I recall those fashions! The cars, hair styles. Big city scenes had people all dressed up in suits and hats. To look appallingly casual, a guy with his necktie untied at the collar was a mark of a tough guy.
Wow! Don Siegel details this in his book. Mitchum went nuts and blew up on the set. Siegel was hired by Howard Hughes who ran RKO at the time. Mitchum had a bodyguard assigned who was supposed to stop him from boozing. But the bodyguard got drunk as well.
I recall seeing this when it came out. It had a convoluted car chase where Mitchum's car was stopped by cattle.
@Glinkaism1 Finally a man whom also enjoys great old film noir movies. Thought i was the last one. Interesting info you give on mitch and on movie,-- also did you know in an interview that i saw many years back that mitchum admitted to smoking weed, especially when he first got to hollywood. Barbara stanwyck== dick powell-- and mitchum are 3 of my favorites--- catch ya later, keep enjoying movies past
@2323giggity As I recall, Mitchum was the first actor to admit smoking weed waaay back. And it was considered shocking back then. He was arrested for it. Didn't seem to hurt his career much.
You probably know this and maybe even have the movie. But "Thunder Road" was Mitchum's big comeback movie with Keely Smith. His son plays his brother. About moonshiners who would put it in a spare gas tank. The spectacular scene where the car explodes hitting a power line was used in other movies.
@2323giggity My favorite also. Grant was a low key guy. I remember the LSD. It was for a short time. Mitchum was a great guy. He loved one wife, and she stayed with him always,. Women always approached him, and he would call home and tell his wife to get down there. Funny guy
@HeatherGlen33 Nice to here from another classic movie lover, Grant was such a decent guy that during wwll he would donate some , and sometimes all the money that he was paid for a movie to the war effort, how unselfish is that, we could sure use a few Cary Grant's these days, men with respect and honor and decency .-- Joan of arc with ingrid bergman 1948 is another of my favorites, and I did some fact finding into it and it was so historically accurate it is amazing, TTYL dave
@Glinkaism1 here's a little more info i have, cary grant in an interview i also saw said that when he was with dyan cannon that she spun him on to LSD and he liked it and used it quite regularly-- i was in shock when i heard this--- who would have ever thought that of ole cary grant-- amazing, it just goes to show ya , you never know----
@Glinkaism1 I know it is hard to believe but it's the truth, i even had a hard time believing it and i saw the interview and heard it from dyan cannons mouth as well, it blew me away. just got done watching '' out of the past '' with mitchum- k. douglas and jane greer-- great movie

@silenceseaandsky Don't forget "Ride the Pink Horse" - another great but underappreciated film noir, set in San Pablo with a very Mexican feeling.

@2323giggity How can you claim that a film about Joan of Arc was historically-accurate while here in France there are at least 5 'official' versions.
