  • petrucci is the best

  • Love em or hate em, to deny this band the respect and credit they deserve is absurd. They have worked long and hard to get where they are at and have proven themselves to be musical virtuoso's. Nothing anyone says can take away from what DT has established. Cheers to all.

  • Um, did Myung just destroy a few planets during this song. Holy cow.

  • NEVERMORE

  • another won and afterlife are such amazing songs, the bridges the breaks the riffs the lyrical melodies, its all so perfect, i love dream theater, i love it...

  • My stream of consciousness: I have to admit it's very strange that DT made one of their EPIC songs right in the first album, when they were young and experiencing a fresh start in music. Their talent and virtuosity level is so obvious and heavily addicting (at least for me and surely for more people like me), I can actually consider myself as a DT lover (I hear you're laughing). That's

why I have to say: My name is Miro and I'm a proud DT fan and listener for over 16 years (since I was 8)...

  • myungs bass kicks ass in this song !

  • 0:26 LOOK at those damn nerves of John Myung!

  • LaBrie's voice is damn amazing too.

  • dude , this video looks amazing ..

  • Greatest musician within DT is John Myung cause he has probably the best riffs within every great song they have ever written

  • Good lord, the whole song is amazing, but 2:57 an on gives me goose bumps.

  • Sure, it's a matter of taste, age and circumstances. But please: don't try to compare this stuff with an opera of (say) Verdi. Sorry, this would be too much for my understanding of youth and affection. Just an example: Verdi's "MacBeth" compared to this nonsense ? Or Mozart, Beethoven, Mussorgsky, Puccini .... ?

    Must be a joke !

Or Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin. The Who, Led Zeppelin and more than a hundred others ?

Must be a joke too !

  • @duefoscari Verdi WISHES he could play bass like that.

  • @duefoscari your comparison is based on opinion. The feelings of joy and amazement opera gave me are surpassed by the feelings of joy and amazement dream theater songs give me. I don't understand why you are so adamant in your narrow minded view of this band simply because you do not like them. You are not a fan, so kindly go fuck yourself with other bands. You to insult the core of this band when you don't care to understand the music but instead compare it to a template you have built.

  • @duefoscari You're an idiot dude. You like other music? That's fine. But don't sit there and say it's a matter of taste in statement, and then go on to imply that your taste is the only one that matters.

By the way, I grew up listening to all those composers you mentioned, as well as composers like Rachmoninoff, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Chopin, Handel, Vivaldi, Bach... it does not make me love Dream Theater any less.

  • @duefoscari DT's music doesn't connect with you? That's fine, but it does with me and countless others. Just because you personally don't connect with their music doesn't mean it lacks feeling.

As much as I can't stand what's on the radio these days, I would never insult any artist. Their work means something to somebody out there, and I would never in a million years take that away from people who do connect with them.

  • labrie best

  • this song isnt on any dt albums is it a cover?

  • @DreamTheaterisGod1 Seriously? When Dream and Day Unite, dude. 1989.

  • @HolyAvgr ive got wdadu, its not on there

  • @DreamTheaterisGod1 It's there. track 6

  • @HolyAvgr Afterlife is there

  • @DreamTheaterisGod1 Ah, sorry. I was listening to both tracks so I was set on the discussion being about Afterlife and not another won. My mistake.

  • @HolyAvgr wait ive got this figured out, another won is from the majesty demos, and raise the knife was supposed to be on falling into infinity but it was never released

  • No words....

  • Please listen to "Highway Star" and "Speed King" of Deep Purple. Just to mention only one of the bands far superior to DT.

Do you really think that DT's better ? Can't belive it. They had a lot of time to hear, feel and analyse these tunes ... and what is the result ? B......it !

  • @duefoscari "Deep Purple is far superior to DT". Based on what, genius? You pull a retarded statement such as this and you expect anybody to take you for anything other than a troll or a fucking retard?

  • @HolyAvgr Did you listen ? No, not for sure ! You need your heroes ... ok for me. Just listen to this mediocre stuff til the end. You're not able to discuss, you're not able to try something new :-) ... and you're not able to appreciate the time difference of 40 years ! There is no excuse for bad music after good music. That's all, folks !

  • @duefoscari You are infatuated by your music and you are preaching to anybody? If I am to believe your profile, you are just doing what you preach not to do.

  • @HolyAvgr Must admit that "infatuated" is a new and pleasing word to me. But you're wrong. I like opera, classical music ... and Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who etc. etc.

Like every piece of music, that's based on true feelings, history and knowledge. Can't find a trace of it in DT's music. But again: if you like it, why not ? Good for you, bad for me :-)

  • @duefoscari Hey, that's just your opinion. I've listened to many things as well, grew up with opera and classical music. Listened to classic, and also progressive, rock due to my parents liking queen and pink floyd. Those bands are great, but i still prefer the music of Dream Theater to the music of others.

  • @duefoscari You seem to forget that opinion is merely subjective. You cannot say one band is far superior to another, especially when the bands being compared are completely different from one another and both come from different decades and genres.

If you're basing this on talent however, the only person in Deep Purple who is superior to anyone in Dream Theater is Steve Morse, who didn't even join the band until the 90s.

  • @duefoscari Also, not to be a dick or anything but... Highway Star? Of all the tunes they have, you go with the one that's played on the radio all the time?

Well, at least you didn't say Smoke on the Water...

  • @duefoscari Stop the stupidity, you should know better. A lot of classical music is SHIT; only some are masterpieces (just like any music). Some may say that you like D Purple because it sounds OLD and classic and you can't appreciate DT's more prog sound. I just say that each band comes from different influences and has a VERY(!!!) different purpose. Deep Purple is cool but in the ends its a bunch of songs, not very interesting artistically...and DT isn't even THAT interesting, thats my OPINION

  • @LACRIOSWI It's just B minor, man...

  • @MyMytalMajesty Pretty accurate answer dude!!!!!! XD

  • Nice Song

  • Hey people!!! Does anyone knows the bass scale in 3:54??? Please!!!!!!!!

  • This video brings some great memories, they were on fire!! that tour was so sic, I can't say too many good things about this. They are at their best here, Portnoy own's on this song hell yeah :)

  • This is a really great song. Raise the knife is also a masterpiece.

  • 03:39 i love mike show his feast like we´r the best man the old songs are great dude

  • it took awhile to load this vid...too much awesome for my internet speed.. :( lol

  • The basslines in this song are insane. JM is going at it.

  • 2:08 .....wtf? :-D

  • Even back in 1985 they were so ahead of their time

  • at 3:03 Myung does a very fast lick!.....so bad we cant hear it clearly.

  • el bajo se toca solo XDD jajaja just perfect.

  • I think it is so amusing that this song was written in their early days, which usually denotes imperfect musicianship and loosely executed hits. For God's sake man, they were in their 20s. Blows my mind.

  • @08Revelator Dude, they weren't even in their 20s when they wrote this one! This song was written in 1985-86. John/John/Mike/Kevin were all born in 1967, so that puts them at 18-19 years old. That's even crazier!

  • I think we have enough proof of JLB being perhaps the best singer in the world. He might have been weak in some concerts, but it's 2011 and he's pretty much perfect again.

  • holy crapp at 3:46 to like 4:10 its sounds so much like Rush.

P.s Wish was there probably there best show :).

  • @maiden944 Wow, you're so right. Like, everything seems like something Rush would do in that era. The chord progression, the drum fills, even the way John uses the harmonics in his solo. That's... chilling.

  • @maiden944 This song is from DT's early period when the band was called Majesty, and the "Majesty" name was inspired to them by the ending of Rush's "Bastille Day". ;-)

  • 4:42 ... the "lick the air" style....Labrie RUUUUULEZ!!!

  • crazy bass on this one... xD

  • Marco Minnemann for DT :D

  • OMG, the solo on this song is so Alex Lifeson! :)

  • 0:47... even the best bassist in the world makes a rythm mistake :)

  • @dreamtheat3r For real? If there is I could'nt spot it..

  • @dreamtheat3r i ccouldnt see/hear it

  • @dreamtheat3r I'm not seeing the mistake. Myung is to Godly to allow his mistakes to be easily viewable! :D

  • master myung!!!!

  • Myung His Bass Playing Made me Have an Orgasm.

  • Oh man at 3:43, Favorite part of the song. Wish it was 3 min longer though hahaha

  • 4:41 LOL

  • I love youuuuuuuuuuuuu....i miei numeri primi!!!!

  • Ancora insieme a loro...io...te...e i DREAM!!

  • james man ur pipes kick ass in this

  • john myung=god

  • @MyMytalMajesty

It's because the guitar it was stands out the most to the non-musician....I agree john m deserves more credit for his outstanding play in that moment.,

  • I think the reason the audience is so 'bored' is because they are trying to figure out what time signature the song is in.

  • @audiodrummer1 i think this music is for musicians and you have to assimilate all the music that comes from this band, it isnt a music easy to listen to

  • Digam o que disserem,James Labrie sempre estará no topo, da minha lista de melhores vocalistas.

  • my god! you can hear myung!

i dont get why the Score audience is so asleep! most other DT performances you ever see have awesome audiences! these people are getting the best show on earth for gods sake!

  • LaBrie at his best!

  • ben o 1 beyenmeyeni sikerim. dikkat ediniz beğenmeyeni diil beyenmeyeni :D

  • this must part of the instructional DVD: " How to be nineteen and write epic music"

  • @jack0eagle when you have 4 up and coming musical geniuses anything can happen.

  • Mike rolls across the toms like a magician, at 1:57.

  • This song is fucking awsome! Majesty<3

    Dream Theater <33

  • 3:35 FTW!

  • These audience were shocked by the excellent performance by DT

  • LaBrie is fucking amazing!!! He sounds as good in concert as he does in studio. For those who dont like him......fucking try to sing like him.

  • 2:09 ... fucking love this fill Mike!!! that cymbal grab at the end is so tight, i use it all the time now..

  • lol,john "hetfield" petrucci!xD

  • They dont even need to record this. This is all fucking Perfect!

  • Get this, this song was written in '85, in Majesty days. These guys wrote this song in their TEENS! Portnoy wrote these drum parts when he was 18 years old. Just mind blowing to think how good at that age. Not to mention he only started drumming at the age of 15. The talent is there, it's so obvious. All of them.

  • best James's performance!

  • My Personal Favorite song of DT

  • What a badass song!

  • what album is this song off? when day and dream unite?

  • @Tedericoe It's an unreleased song that doesn't appear on any of their albums. It was written before WDADU =)

  • @Tedericoe It isn't from a dream theater album. It's from way back when they were still called the Majesty.

  • @kalidoresdan Haha actually Petrucci had a horrible cold.

  • john myung is on fire in this song !

  • @dudeindonutshop Uh, what?

  • @dudeindonutshop Umm, James LaBrie is a guy.... and all their songs sound completely different, which is why they're the greatest band on the planet.

  • @dudeindonutshop r u fucking retarted???

  • @dudeindonutshop successful troll is successful =)

  • @dudeindonutshop wow, you´re really fucking retarded...

  • @Zox09 im sorry did i offend your 80s metal power ballad hair band?

  • @dudeindonutshop -.-''

  • Because when you watch them live, you don't want to miss a second by moshing or something else :)

  • Awesome song!!!!

  • To play this song, only Mike Portnoy! on the drums \m/^_^\m/ so to speak!

  • All DT fans will miss you Mike! DT will never be the same without him...

  • @rantingfedora They can become even better!! ;) DT4EVER!!!

  • @AceInTheWhole94 It's just a typical Dream Theater audience.

  • @Sartononify parece que nunca has visto al publico sudamericano

ese si que es publico mierda!

  • @Sartononify You never saw a concert in Portugal right?=) And they love it....specially Mike and Jordan... On the last concert in OPorto LaBrie said Unbelivable crowd! they want to feel de joy of the crowd....

  • @Sartononify No its not, maybe in the US is.

  • Comment removed

  • @Sartononify haha you have to see the "chilean" dream theater audience, its pure feeling.

  • @Sartononify you really think?

    /watch?v=uoARgJzqGDQ

  • @Sartononify you have half the audience going crazy the other watching their technicallity

  • @Sartononify not in Venezuela

  • @Sartononify not in Venezuela

  • @Sartononify check chile's audience ;)

  • @Sartononify Not here in Chile. :D

  • @Sartononify no I've seen Dream Theater and the audience was much more energetic than that

  • @Sartononify you're wrong dude...come to Greece and you will see what means "AUDIENCE"...i'm sure Dream Theater know...

  • @Sartononify Exactly, because DT fans actually listen to the incredible music, it's a show aswell as a concert. Go to a "hardcore" metal concert, people don't even listen to the music they just run around punching eachother, i listen to that shit but i think its fucking stupid, i mean headbang, its almost involuntary but punching ppl and shit is fucken dumb.

  • @AceInTheWhole94 i waz nothing like this audience when i saw them

  • @AceInTheWhole94 Some people prefer listening to the music over ass planting someone's face. DT is listener friendly and their music has no appeal to retards that cripple each other in a mosh pit.

  • @AceInTheWhole94 they are just enjoying this great music man.

  • @AceInTheWhole94 no they are just enjoying ;)

  • @AceInTheWhole94 They're busy beeing hypnotized by awesomeness.

  • @AceInTheWhole94 I've been to many of their shows.. the reason the crowd is "fucking boring", as you say, is because everyone's in awe at the awesomeness of this awesomest of awesome bands, period.

  • @AceInTheWhole94 I was at that show and I can tell you most of the people were flummoxed by this song and didn't know the words or anything, I think I was the only one rocking out. At other times, the crowd was on fire.

  • @AceInTheWhole94 They're taking it all in! You can't spaz at a DT concert and risk missing every beautiful detail :D

  • @AceInTheWhole94 They're not there for the show as much; they're there for the music. :D

  • i love how mike portnoy has a mirror on his kit to look at himself LOL xD!!

  • @drummerman55 yes i know its for the conductor -_-

  • @drummerman55

That was so he could see the composer (Jamshied Sharifi) behind him.

  • @glassprison1974 no, its for the conductor (Jamshied Sharifi) behind him :) which i also stated AS SOON as i posted the first comment. please read before you comment ^_^

  • @drummerman55

That is the comment I saw. I am not going to read 1000 comments to see if you corrected yourself.

  • @glassprison1974 didnt say you should, i said that the correction was DIRECTLY ABOVE the first comment...

  • @drummerman55

    well spotted lol

  • when your playing some of the most complex and awsome music ever made....you cant always move around the stage "like avenged sevenfold does"

  • the best DT live concert ever..and my fave prog track

  • the DT live ever..and my fave prog song

  • fucking great T_T

  • @MyMytalMajesty its very Myungy lol

  • Is this the version that is on spotify?

  • they are GODS IN HUMAN FORM..ONE OF THE BEST SONG OF DT..

  • i like dream theater but there concerts a re okay but they need to move around like avenged sevenfold does the guitar players dont stay in one spot they move around and make the crowd wanna feel them up by tomorrow lol

  • @THEREV468 Avenged seven fold doesn't play is 306452162/6534163100 Its kinda hard to

  • @DTxOctavariumx whats 306452162/6534163100

  • @THEREV468 Its a time signature. I was kidding of course. Some parts changes to some jacked up time signature. Its kinda hard to move around while trying to focus on the music,

  • @THEREV468 And Petrucci is constantly changing his guitar effects idk what its called im not a guitarist so he cant move around.,..

  • @THEREV468

How about you try and play ANY of their songs sitting still, and THEN tell me you would run around head banging.

  • the best band ever in my eyes

  • @MyMytalMajesty yeah, I'm not saying in anyway that it was ever bad, it's just improved on how it was, which is hard to believe because it has always been so good, just goes to show there's always room for improvement :)

  • 2:12 :D Love Portnoy!!!!!

  • petrucci on roids? :))
