This group comes from Harlem and the lead singer was Betty Jackson- sister of Jesters' lead singer Adam Jackson. I guess high voices ran in the family!!

This is one of my favorite doo wop songs. I grew up the 50's and 60's, sang in the hallways of apartment buildings and street corners in NYC. When we didn't have much else, we always had our music. Thanks a million for the memories.
As far as the question of whether the lead is male or female: Just check out another song by the same group, also on Gone, it's title is "Never Let Him Go" and unless the song was aimed at a gay audience,(highly unlikely given the time), the lyrics make it clear the singer is female...
Who is the soprano? The first time this song went up on Youtube (since deleted), we chased the information for months. Most posters thought the lead singer was a boy.
The lead is a female. If you listen to the flip of this called "Pretty Little Thing," she says "my lover boy." It's on Youtube. I posted it at the same time I posted this
We know the lead singer is a lady, and George Goldner, who produced the record, specialized in girl groups. The question is, who -- what is the name of -- the owner of that wonderful voice? If we have a verified name, perhaps she is still with us and can be located to recall the history of the song and the group.
Thanks for posting the song and for responding to my question.

One of my top 10 all time favorites.Heard it before here on youtube but real glad to see the 45 label.Really dig your music....I listened to Dick Clark back in '59....so great.
Yeah.. I don't think that was ever issued as a stock copy, but I could be wrong. Apparently censors weren't crazy about the title, and Gone changed it
I've seen promos with this title, but never a stock copy. That's basically what I was getting at in my description.. DJs are announcing the record as You Can Come and yet even to this day a lot of people call the record "I Don't Care Anymore." At least they did when they called in to request it on my show. Back when this was getting some airplay people may have seen the 45 on the shelves and not even knew that it was this song
Well, if you were born then it would have been up to you to dig all of this stuff up on your own. Now with the internet you have access to many people's collections right here on Youtube
Hmm, sounds so familiar.. lol. I love this record PJ thanks so much, yours sounds almost as good as the one you gave me... HA HA! no it does sound very good tho, really!
great track here!!! thanks for the memories and the fun,Tom D

@Goldenoldies4ever -- Thank you so much. Her voice is magical and unique. Is she still alive?

@KenViewer
Hey Ken,
I have no idea if she is still alive. Adam passed away 15 years ago or more.
This is one the greatest female lead/male background doowop ballads!!
