"Now that Sam's at this level, which we hadn't planned or prepared for..."
Um, NO ONE makes it to that level without a SUBSTANTIAL amount of planning and preparation. It does get frustrating listening to gymnasts and their parents say, "My kid just made it to the elite level, really, it just happened." yeah right
@MsDegrassichik Well have you done all those skills under extreme pressure and still done as well as she has. Don't think so. You're bragging in unnecessary.
@Puppylovr81 im not bragging! :( im just saying it is extemely tough toget through i know what its like! i didnt mean to come off like i was bragging i was just saying that im 13 and im already experiencing this kind of pressure and its amazing how we can relate :)
I remember reading an interview with Steve Nunno where he said he didn't want his girls to quit school. He felt it was valuable for his girls to have a life outside the gym.
@QuittersTry agreed, cliche as it sounds, it's not about the cards you're dealt it's how you play the game, and regardless of background, I'd say she's played the hand well...
@suegirl145 she didn't exactly compete, but she got a silver medal. And billions of other people don't even HAVE an olympic medal. What do you have against happy-go-lucky people anyway?
she's great, but she is not the only gymnast who goes to school. actually, the majority of the major players do: bridget, shawn, nastia, chellsie, sam, alicia, rebecca b, ivana, most of them do
@yasmine10194 they both went to high school, but obviously both graduated already :) (i'm not sure about chellsie but nastia did 1/2 a day at a private school)
I don't know how she felt about that - but it seems like it would have been nice. Getting to compete in the Olympic games, without all of the extra stress. And she got a silver medal to boot.
no its a horrible feeling going so far and not being able to showcase yourself on the olympic stage. she probably feels unaccomplished and thats y she is still working hard at the sport. she wants another chance to reach her ultimate goal in gymnastics and she can.
I just realized that Shawn and Sam have a lot in common. They both only train around 5 hours a day, they both go to school, and they both have Chinese coaches from Beijing. Even their body types are similar and they are both powerful :P

She didn't - she switched AFTER the Olympics when her coach moved back to China to be closer to his family.

i find sam doesn't show any personality in her routines, and she always seems stiff. she's a great gymnast, but not as nice to watch

you should watch her floor from nationals this year, she was all smiles

It was sad that she got injured, because she didn't get the chance to shine like she obviously would have. A very talented young lady.
