  • @TheOriginal3P MELDAC!

  • Bucket heads are shunned monks.. because you totally care

  • Holy shit a good game for GB thats not pokemon

  • Most Brittish houswives can't tell the distance between Whizzo Butter and a dead crab!

  • Oh wow, this game looks like fun

  • I forget which Yokai or bit of Japanese folklore that was a moron with a bucket on his head shaking a stick. 5:35

  • @SGFAZ : If I am not wrong, the character with the "bucket" over his head is not a yokai, but a kind of wandering shintoist monk. The "bucket" is a head cover made of straw with a grating, in order to allow the monk to see through it. Unfortunately, I don't know the meaning or the purpose of hiding your appearance. In some movies they appear playing a flute, like other kinds of monks wander sounding a gong or a rattle. Sorry for not knowing any more!

  • are those tigers throwing their shit at you?

  • A better question would be "why are those samurai throwing tiger shit at you?"

  • I love this game :) My uncle has it, so when I go to his house I always play on it

  • My first game boy game. Pretty awesome but hard, especially in the later levels.

If you've never played it try it out sometime on an emulator- very original game.

  • Holy shit! I remember this game! I'd play with just one ninja as my party. It made it easier to avoid attacks.

  • cool game

too bad i suck at it, cant complete it

  • My favorite game on the gameboy.

  • it's like a scrolling shooter version of the battles in North & South... interesting

  • Wow! This game looks awesome! I might get me a copy. :D

  • Randomduded: Four words-

    Invisible

    Coin

    Block

    Traps

  • cool i have this game it rox

  • Wow. You seriously have mad Totally Random Interesting Game Finding Skillz! This is like...a shooter mixed with Zelda 4 Swords...but BEFORE 4 Swords! MADNESS!

  • has there ever been a game, where collecting coins are a bad thing? Anyways, this game looks cool. I should see if I can find a copy.

  • who knows where i can find this game

  • I found it in a Gamestop not two weeks ago.

  • Hey, I did too! I'm happy you're LPing this!

  • Its the Japanese version of the justice league

  • I remember this game. I picked it up randomly, thinking it would be something like the NES Ninja Gaiden games. You could say I was surprised.

  • I've got a recommendation for your LPs on here. For those of us who want to watch from Youtube or wherever, or just want to watch it quickly without having to browse through SA forums and such, you can post each new video as a video response to the previous episode. (Of course, the first episode wouldn't be a response to anything)

    Anyway... keep it up!

  • Or you could just check my Playlists of each LP and view it in list form like that.

  • To be honest... I haven't seen any playlist stuff for it. Unless I'm not looking closely enough. I just see La-Mulana, Knytt, and... if memory serves me, Cave Story. I've already looked through those.

  • This game needs more pirates, can't have playable ninjas without playable pirates.

  • Heiankyo Alien! I still have that game after all this time

You should totally do a Let's Play of it

  • I totally did. Check Google Video.

  • Awesome. I seriously thought I was the only person who had played that game

  • I have always wondered what this game was like. Now I wanna play it! I'm glad I subbed!

  • Awsome LP, I've never heard of this game, or the other one you mentioned (I'll check out your LP of it).

  • Hmm, I vaguely remember seeing this game in Nintendo Power. Not quite the genre I imagined, heh.

  • AWESOME GAME!

    I wish to play ittt

  • I less then three you, DC.

  • 5:22 - Ah, the return of surprise fish! At least you don't recoil as much in this game.

    Another great episode.

  • Woo all hail the mighty Buckethead!

  • this was one of my first 5 GB games. good stuff

  • Looks fun

  • the tigers kinda remind me of the blue tigers in stanley

  • That looks fun, actually... one of the only fun gameboy games???

  • Buckethead Wendy for the win.

  • This game is ingenious. I think the bucket head is a buddist, but my information comes solely from Okami.

  • I found and bought Boktai at Gamestop yesterday.

  • Watch out DC! Or Buckethead there might make you play Jordon on Expert!

  • Yay for GameStop!!!

  • Holy crap! I totally remember this game!I also totally remember i always died in the first 3 seconds.

  • neet game ill have to try and find it

  • "Buckethead Wendy" - Sealab 2021 reference! YES!

  • Way ahead of you, DC. I found 2 copies of Heiankyo Alien over 12 years ago at Sears. Now if I could just find someone to play it with.

  • Oh snap, that's right, that game had link play!

  • Link play you say? Is MadamLuna going to be making an apperance this LP?

  • this game..... NEEDS MORE PIRATES!!!

DC you seem to know what games are extremely entertaining.

    5/5

  • During the Edo Period, the shakuhachi (bamboo flute) was a prefered instrument by some ronin. Large amounts of ronin joined the komuso (priests of emptiness). They were identified by large baskets they wore over their heads to symbolize detachment from the world. They wandered village to village accepting alms. Dc, I think those basket heads are priests in search of peace. Also since they cant wear swords, they made their flutes out of thicker bamboo so they can be used as a club.

  • omg i luv this game

  • ..wow. I know there are some unique shooters out there, but this is almost instantly my favorite because it throws the whole space-and-space-vehicle cliche out the window, and puts in actual people and land. Very interesting. Maybe not such a GREAT game, but cool enough just because of that.

  • The basket heads are komusō, a mendicant priest of the Fuke sect of Zen Buddhism. Ninjas also used to dress as them when they wanted to spy.

You always pick the most interesting games:)

  • You didn't say anything about surprise fish on that bridge. Now I'm disappointed.

  • that 1st level music is ridiculously awesome.

  • I was going to say something but I forgot... Tenooki to that...

  • This is a pretty good concept, I'm liking this game.

I remember you saying you could switch the leader in your party. Can you do this mid-stage? It means you could save the top right Ninja from some damage if his health gets too low.

  • I use to play is game. not a bad game

  • Wow, and I was just thinking of Mercenary Force the other day too.

  • LOOKS LIKE A GOOD GAME

  • do the servants have guns?

  • The tigers were upgraded from shooting butterflies to shooting cannonballs because Japanese fauna is kickass compared to Africa.

  • I never heard of this game but after watching I like the idea and how it plays.

  • Ninjas are cool.

  • I am surprised you didn't spaz out from a surprise fish attack... I guess the fish tried camoflague, and failed miserably.

  • Ah, i remember this game. I did not like it much, but it's always good to get a little nostalgic^^

  • Mercenary Force, aka "When Japan Attacks!" Sounds like a B-movie. "One day, in a peaceful village, evil demons fly down from Japan to massacre everyone. It's up to an elite squad of mythological Japanese heroes to save the world from Japan!"

  • i would watch that

  • Since when do Tigers shoot canon balls?

  • Since the dawn of Japanese mythology XD.

  • Since when do blue tigers shoot 3 balls of fire? (cough) Stanley... (cough)

  • Since games have become unrealistic. Lol wait that's always.

  • Since when did servants become gunmen?

  • sence wen do they spit out butterflies? huh? wait... that was a different LP

  • Tigers don't shoot cannon balls.

    They shoot lightning bugs.

  • What. What. What.

This is better than Aladdin, though. Kudos to you!

  • I'd rate you low just because you called the ninja a loser :P No, just kidding. You rule DC!

  • There's also a secret in the game, but rather have you to find out what happens. =1

On round 2, you must have "excellent luck" in the shrine. You do this by picking the one that is different from the rest, you have to have good eyes. On round 6 you have to have three or less mercenaries, and you must not have a monk in your group.

  • Is it Tanooki out of freaking nowhere? Because I'm way ahead of you in that case. And they're really not that good.

  • tan..ooki?..whats tanooki?

  • I always wanted to know how that game is played. I have an old strategy guide "secret of the game series: nintendo game boy secrets" It sounds pretty cool and...I don't remember what idea I had in my mind at that time. Guess it was game design I don't know.

But anyways, the formations you mention earlier are called wind, forest, fire, and mountain, according to the book. The one you hate is called the mountain. The forest is the box formation. Fire is the narrow formation, and wind...

  • This reminds me of King's Knight...

That's pretty obscure, is it not?

  • WHY NOT ALL NINJAS LOL

  • I did LP Heiankyo Alien, my third LP. Too big for YouTube so it's up on Google Video. Go find it.

  • You are so different from other LPers, LPing different games for our entertainment! Beautful!

No seriously, I like to see the games you LP they're always so cool.
