  • This master know forms and styles. How many forms from Baji he knows?

  • @MasterPedroJoe As far as I know: 6 small frame, Big frame, Black tiger fist and a few weapon forms (spear, staff, jian...)

  • @jingang

WOW I know only Xiao Jia :))))

  • Is this form from Wu Bajiquan?

  • @MasterPedroJoe Yes. Wu xiufeng -> Tian jinzhong -> Shen jiarui -> Zhou jingxuan

  • What would you do if you wanted to learn this martial arts but had no way of being taught by a teacher? i really want to learn this :( anyone got suggestions? could i learn the forms accurately from videos?

  • @buckinchicken987 Save up and go visit a teacher, you can't learn every thing from a video, maybe the big movements you can see. But the little things and energy's.... there's not a chance! none at all, movements without a purpose is all you'll have. hope this helps ")

  • I would love to learn Bajiquan and Piquaquan. Maybe one day.

  • "I can see why the japanese turned it into hakkyoku ken, and it's good they eliminated all the usless hand moves and acrobatics, all just silly and uneffective."

lol Def. too many videogames dude, prime example of someone who doesnt even understand the essence of the arts.

Great videos im extremely interested in learning but i doubt there are any places that teach here in the midwest :/. Maybe i should try to start with Taiji since it seems more common, and often practiced along with Baji..?

  • if you eliminate to many of the "useless" hand moves, it'll start looking like regular karate.

i practice both Taiji and Baji... the one done with Baji is Pigua zhang, but TaiJi and Baji are on a proverb too. TaiJi bring Peace to China, while Baji is to Defend china. both are great defense styles but different approaches. the moves have some similiar roots and they do mix well

  • yes ive read quite a bit about baji and pigua, ive also heard that many people that practice baji also practice Taiji (chen style usually or so i heard) because it helps develop the internal principles of the art

  • Haha, definitely too much video game kungfu from that guy :D The "Japanese" version of Baji Quan is essentially identical to the "Chinese" version. Heck, it's still taught by Chinese in Japan. Just terms and names in the art have been translated into Japanese... because they're in Japan of course :P

  • As for why it looks different than video game baji (other than being a video game of course, lol) is that the Baji Quan in DoA and, I think Virtua Fighter also, are based off of Li Shu Wen's branch of Baji Quan. Mr. Zhou's branch is of a different line than Li Shu Wen's.

  • yah... First of all Baji is far from Acrobatic. And there are no useless moves.

Second of all, Hakkyoku ken is Baji Quan. It's just a translation. Whoever said that should stop playing Virtua Fighter and go learn something.

  • Actually it's not even translation, it's just how they read it in Japanese. Because Japanese Kanji is Chinese characters and they have the same meaning, they just read it differently, since the language is different.

  • which is a translation. Kanji is not Hanzi (Chinese characters) It is Hanzi mixed with hiragana. And simplified. I mean essentially it's the same. If you know one you can read the other. But it's like saying Zen and Chan Buddhism are the same. Very similar. But different. When you read one thing from one language in another, it counts as a translation ^_^

  • I guess it counts as translation. Except that Kanji is Chinese characters. Hiragana and Katakana are different. Kanji is written the same as Hanzi; 漢字, Japanese just pronounce it differently. Hiragana; ひらがな, Katakana;カタカナ. But only some of the Chinese characters are used in Japanese language. So they have the same written language, when it comes to Kanji and Hanzi, but Japanese don't know all of them, and use Hiragana and Katakana instead.

  • Okay, Chinese is my first language and i am studying Japanese for 3 years. When the japanese write official documents they add hiragana to the kanji characters. I never said anything about katakana.

And yes, like you just stated, they use hiragana. Which is what i had said.

Example: 風の塔 They use the kanji for wind and tower but the hiragana character "no" for "of". I'm not sure who you are trying to prove your linguistic knowledge to, but you are doing a poor job.

  • And I'm not trying to prove anything, it's you who's trying to prove something, I just stated that Hakkyouken is how Bajiquan is said in Japanese. I speak Japanese and I've studied a bit Chinese. I don't know what you mean by official documents, but they use hiragana alongside with kanji, because they don't use as many characters as Chinese. We're saying the exactly the same things, misunderstanding might be because of either of our English, because neither of us seem to be perfect in Enlish ^^

  • yes, i have noticed this as well. I agree it might be issues with english. So let's just drop this. ^^;;

  • exactly... kanji exist in korea too... and means same thing but pronounced differently..

  • I've been looking for this video... first baji quan i ever saw... loved it.

  • Beautiful!

  • I do the same type of Baji quan, but only i learned it from the Wu family. Same movements here, only other accents! Wu jia Kaimen Baji quan

  • Hi, did you learn from Master Wu lianzhi? Does he accept one to one coaching?

  • No we have no connections to wu lianzhi. Wu xiufeng (wu lianzhi's father) spent most of his life in Tianjin and taught many great students there.

  • Are you familiar with Xing Yi Quan?

  • Yes. I learnd Xingyiquan and Jingangbashi from Mr.Zhou.

  • Very good, very good!!

  • what the...why doesn't this clip work anymore.

  • I don't know.

    Tring to fix it

  • From watching these and other bajiquan videos.. When I saw the Dand form perfromed Duida (2 person) U can see alot of the applications! Helped me see alot! My one question is though.. This Small Frame, It is from the Wu family correct? I noticed they enter there forms the same way as Wu Lianzhi, but the Li forms start left elbow down then they present the open gate elbow strike..

  • There aint no move too much. Every movement has its reason. Whoever doesn't see this, doesnt know.

  • I wasn't aware Baji had a single whip type move(00:55). I wouldn't say any part of that form had any "acrobatics" or showy manuevers to it, but then again, I don't know Baji. I liked though, that in the middle of some public place, he could do his form without dumb questions and such. Asia is awesome!

  • About 00:54 in the video he does this weird jump forward, that's more akin to a dance.

And the hand movment at 00:17 is also just ornimental

I realize this is just a demonstration, and this style did turn into one of the more effective styles around.

And had i seen a spar, it might have been better.

  • First let me say that this isn't a compatition form.

I invite you to come over and meet Mr.Zhou and if you'll ask him I'm sure he'de be happy to show you how to use the apps. It's hard to explain it in words, and I don't know what is your knowlege in Martial arts..... but if you can't see the application I can guess you only watch martial arts and not practice.

    Have fun

  • 00:17 can have a big number of applications; Might be a grab and a twist of the opponents limb, or just a transition into a better fighting position. A parry is possible? 00:54.. the "jump" is more a fast stepping movement, wich follows into A low sweep of the opponents leg or A ducking motion while remaining balanced to avoid a high attack? Then countering with a palmstrike. That really has many application. (These are just my thoughts...very uneducated.. :p )

  • if you notice the move in 00:17, there is a twist close to the body before it. That's clearly a technique after a grab, i mean it's quite obvious. The reason the actually motino during 00:17 isn't done fast is probably because it's not meant to be mistaken for a strike, as it is some sort of arm lock. I wouldn't know about the jump, as it is not part of the xiaojia i learned. But what associates jumping with dancing? it's CLEARLY not a high jump, so it must be an advance.

  • I can see why the japanese turned it into hakkyoku ken, and it's good they eliminated all the usless hand moves and acrobatics, all just silly and uneffective.

But i can see at it's core, it's powerful.

  • I'de love to know what usless hand moves and acrobatics you see in the video.

Each move has it's exact application and there are no usless moves in traditional Bajiquan.

  • By the way .The Japanese didn't turn Bajiquan into hakkyoku ken.

hakkyoku ken is the Japanese way to say Bajiquan.

One can't turn Bajiquan into Bajiquan.

  • played too much virtua fighter have we? they're actually the same thing. In fact, i feel as if this style of baji is infact the most popular in japan. Dare i say that traditional karate is a lot farther from application than xiaojia right here? I mean...the ridiculously wide and low stances, the lack of combination in katas. Just goes to show, can't always judge a style by a simple demo.

  • There are no acrobatics or useless hand move; every technique in the forms are practices for different things; not always strict moves used in battle.

It's hard to see the real core if you do not understand this. And to understand you probably should study baji.

  • Thats because unlike you karate guys, there is more purpose in the movements in internal arts, than for actual application. Developing a body method, conditioning, and coordination are one. You think taiji people fight like the form looks? No, its developing a taiji body method to use freely however you want.

  • Wow...

    looks great.

This is the way I remember baji quan! :).

  • Hallo there, i have a question. Where was this video take? Thanks

  • Tianjin China
