@petitepure Our pet store has live mealworms, they're in the refrigerator near the reptiles. You might ask your store if they have or can get them. My hamsters loved live mealworms. I raise my own now.
The cage (maze) is a plastic bin from Wal-mart. The dividers in the maze are Plexiglas, I cut it to fit the bin. The items in the maze are things I had around the house.
It does sound like it's scared. Try this: instead of picking up your hamster with your hand, put a cup in the cage and let your hamster crawl into it. Pick up the cup with your hamster, hold the cup up to your other hand. Wait and let the hamster decide when it wants to come out and be held.
When i pick up my hamsters they start to shake all over the body atleast that what i think cause they shakes when their at my hand anyways does that mean it doesnt like getting picked up and i should just leave them be????
Mealworms are not really worms at all. They are the larvae of the darkling beetle, the technical name is Tenebrionidae. They are healthy for hamsters, a high source of protein. In the wild hamsters eat a variety of insects.
If really nice you can give your hamster an alive mealworm, i couldn't find an alive one so i bought some dried ones at pet shop. :D
