If I understand the "Cartesian theater" right, you would still not have access to consciousness proper. It would be like plugging in to a cable TV signal or something like that; there would still be a "filter" in between. A proper "Consciousness theater" to me would be to actually experience the other entity or organism while you are experiencing yours, to be able to make objective evaluations on a subjective experience...
I think he is right that it will be shown by neuroscience there is no part of the brain generating a subjective awareness of what is happening in the brain. This result suggests two possibilities: either subjective awareness does not exist...or...it is not generated by the brain.
@Drastam Wha? There is no part of the brain that is creating subjective experience? The whole thing created subjective experience by the definition of subjective. To have an objective experience one would have to be god and experience the entirety of existence without regards to the barriers brought on by space-time, which is utterly ridiculous. In the end each individual brain is like a self-manifesting computer in the bubble of our heads with different sensory data which creates originally.
@jdubbin78 Your opinion is a presumption and a belief, not a scientific fact. Science knows nothing like what you are saying. The Q as to consciousness and awareness is not scientifically settled yet.

This is fascinating - but I have to say I do find him a tiny bit patronising.
