And the real point I was making with my original comment was that Guitar world is a hard rock mag, but the guy they have do all the reviews is not really the best person they COULD use for reviewing high gain amps.

Also having owned several nice amps....MkIV, JCM800, ENGL SE....THIS amp is not the "perfect" high gain amp BUT it CAN play high gain....an well at that...so the question remains, why does he play blues in his reviews, when he works for a Hard Rock magazine?

It being a mag w/ a lot of hard rock means nothing; They have jazz lessons non-stop as well as blues, folk, you name it. They had a Django style lesson a few months ago! And he plays blues in the review because in my mind it's a near perfect low gain amp. Sure, you can push it, but why? It wouldn't sound half as good.

The review isn't my favorite but it's a Rivera amp, and while yes, you can get high gain sounds if you push everything up to 10, that's not what's it's tailored to do. It's a creamy low gain amp.

I don't like high gain amps, especially expensive ones. What's wrong with a good drive pedal into a great clean amp? Or forcing the amp into drive with sheer volume? Gimme a JTM45 with the volume up and a Durham Sex Drive any day.

Hahaha, again, you misunderstand. Go listen to Guthrie Govan, John Mclaughlin, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Robert Fripp if you want real guitar players. Django Reinhardt can play much faster than ANY shredder, and he has 2 fingers. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's easy... Any of those guys could destroy any "shredder" in any category. I grew up with Vai, Satch, and Malmsteen; they're great players and everything, but they're all trapped in their own box.

Some of the best amps around. A friend has duo twelve he's toured with.  Reliable and sounds great.... Venus six is awesome. Go watch videos on Riveras site where they talk about how they built it.
