  • wrong guy for Roland for sure I sure hope they make this someday and that they do it right

  • Lame.

  • DAMN! that was excellent!

  • Nice Eastwood impersonation

  • Javier Bodem has been chosen to be the Gunslinger. Anyone ever seen No Country for Old Men?

  • @Legba85 why are they choosing spic to play roland?

  • @aadeeza It doesn't matter anymore. The movie was cancelled.

  • Daniel Day Lewis is a contender!

  • @Sco22 and of course Clint Eastwood.

  • Lol the crow made me laugh

  • vince vaugn could be randall flagg, he's dope at playing cheerful villains

  • I thought this was very good! Thanks for making this, i really enjoyed this excerpt! You should do another part, where they eat and roland thinks brown might be the sorcerer, that his little shack might be an illusion to trick him, that he thinks hes been drugged

  • All you people are casting Roland to young.

The perfect person to play Roland would be Sam Elliot.

Tell me someone that would be better.

  • @teheee Dye Daniel Craig's hair black, put some age in his eyes, work on his accent and put a stubble of a beard on his face... Wouldn't that work?

  • @saddlescars936

That could work, but there are a lot of things you're adding. I just thought Sam Elliot, because the guy has that cold stare and cowboy look already.

  • Roland Deschain - Hugh Laurie? I actually think that Christian Bale wouldn't be half-bad.

    Eddie Dean - Edward Norton

    Susannah Holmes - Zoe Saldana

    Jake Chambers - Skandar Keynes

The Man in Black Jeremy Irons

    Cuthbert Allgood Joseph Gordon Levitt

    Father Callahan - Donald Sutherland

Steven Deschain - Clint Eastwood, definitely.

  • i actually wouldn't mind Nathon Fillion for Roland. he or Viggo Mortenson. i think viggo would probably be best for the role, but Nathon could do it well too i think with his darker "mal reynolds" kinda character.

  • @niquepadilla of course not Hugh Laurie as Roland! are you insane? but all the others are ok...especially Edward Norton

  • I Agree that Sawyer from lost or Viggo or Hugh Jackman could play Roland. But the voice would have be deep and errie as the book portrayed.I say Hugh because of the expression on his face when he's in rage.I hope they don't f*ck this up, please j.j. , I like the stories and do want to see it on film, but i'v seen it perfect in my mind when reading, don't mess that up!

  • They should get Jamey Sherridan to play Flagg again.

    Clint Eastwood for Roland's father.

    Just my thoughts.

  • Except that he is really ugly, and Flagg is suposed to be interesting looking. I never understood that.

  • Jamie Sherridan's ugly?

  • Viggo Mortensen for Roland... he's already played a gunslinger in Appaloosa, have a look.

  • Fuck yes.

  • They should probably use Timothy Olyphant as Roland, Michael Chiklis as Cort, Josh Brolin as Roland's father in flashbacks, oh and Gary Sinese would be perfect as Walter.

  • great job on this, I was very happy to see what you made of this book. Keep up the great work!

  • That was amazing. I did not notice that it was just one person being Brown and Roland till I saw the credits.

  • MICKEY ROURKE FOR ROLAND

am i right or am i right?

  • roland's voice wasn't quite right. but very good anyway :)

  • as long as they don't use Christian Bale for Roland, he messed Batman all up

  • Gary Sinese or Ed Harris for Roland. John Malkovich for the man in black/walter/flagg.

  • Bullshit! but I see what you're saying about the John Malkovich thing, Gary Sinese is a big no, and Ed Harris is way too bald!

  • Zoltan is badley is a cool vid i like this is good is ok

  • Good job, Zoltan was hilarious. I love the series and all, and this was an okay interpretation of that scene.

  • 90 not 100

  • This was an entertaining vid. Although I didn't care for the actor's "interpetration" of Roland, I was impressed that he fooled me into thinking that the roles were being played by two different people. Zoltan was giggleworthy. Even though it's been a good bit since I've read this, I remember it being much more dustbowl-like, sandy and desperate. Argh! Ya' matey! Still, a great effort.

  • Forgot about Roland's mule!!

    lol, nice vid though

  • I have seen worse fan films, King has said that Roland is based on Eastwood from G,B,& U. He is too old now but would be great as Steven Deshain or Cort. Mads Mikkelsen would be perfect! JJ abrhams is set to direct but I think that each book should be done by different directors. Weird I know but each book has a different feel and I think that it would be the best way to convey that. JJ should produce but his vision is too realistic to show the full potential of the Dark Tower universe.

  • Genius! I agree with everything. Eastwood would be brilliant as Roland's father.

  • i was thinking he'd make a good Cort

  • I would only trust Clint Eastwood to the job of the gunslinger... but even he couldn't do it anymore.

I don't think they SHOULD make a movie about the gunslinger. Leave it to each person to imagine what the worlds of the Dark Tower are like.

  • Sawyer from Lost

  • now theres a good idea. ive never thought about sawyer as roland. good idea. lets wright to stephen king to start petitiioning it...!!

  • they earn it

  • congrats dude you earned it!!

  • only one man could have played this role ... clint eastwood ... but he old so HUGH JACKMAN all the way

  • what about christian bale ???

  • in order to make it work it would have to be a completely new face on the screen to portray Roland...Keanu?, Guy Pearce? my god people is this what american idol does to your brains?

  • keanu all the way

  • Viggo mortenson or however you spell it needs to be roland

  • I like this kind of amateur shit, very nice dudes!

  • Do you know how horrible it would be to have Keanu Reaves as Roland? Really.

  • agreed. that would be horrendous. Anyone see Guy Pearce in The Proposition? Now that would be a quality Roland Deschain.

  • i think Gale harold he has that somtimes old sometimes young look that eddie talked about in the drawing of the three and plus he posseses that "most of the time emotionless" side and he can also be an emotional i know he playes in queer as folk and all but i think this movie would be a great career boost for Gale Harold his eyes to blue and pale

  • What about Timothy Olyphant as Roland? He's about the right age, and I thought he was pretty good in Deadwood

  • Kevin Sorbo. Now that he's older and with dark hair of course. Brown's accent was fine for me. It's an imaginary world...who says you can't live in a place that looks like Texas and have an Irish accent? LOL

  • yeah i think that would be a good role for sorbo to play.

  • The guy playing Roland tried too hard to sound distant. I picture Roland actually talking a lot more down to earth. And while the actor playing Brown did well, I thought of the character as having a southern twang.

  • They're the same person.

  • hugh jackman or mortensen for roland but if time ran both ways clint eastwood when he did josey wales. for me watching josey wales is like watching roland gather his ka tet. instead of a junkie it's a native american. they even have a dog which is as close to oy as you can get.

  • Christian bale??!! he's a good actor, but he is way to young! roland has to be old, like 40 or 45.

  • I thought Roland was pretty good actually. 'Not like the way he's described in the books'? Which books did you read?

Brown's accent was painful and zoltan was just silly.

  • The same actor played both roles: Robert David Cochrane.

  • I enjoyed this scene. To me, The Gunslinger is something to great and special to be destroyed by hollywood. The way films are made these days, the right feel could never be captured. Just my opinion. Hollywood will never make the film i want to see. I don't want to see The Gunslinger turned into another bullshit hollywood movie. Filled with CGI and hollywood "sex symbols". I doubt i will see it when it's finally released. It's too sacred to me

  • But Roland is waaay angrier than the dudes in his original ka-tet. Besides, Christian Bale is too... I dunno, but as long as he doesn't put on that stupid, raspy Batman voice... >:(

  • lol at the bird

  • I think that dude who played Van Helsing should play Roland! :D

  • You mean Hugh Jackman? You really don't know who Hugh Jackman is?

  • Of course I know who Hugh Jackman is, I wouldn't have suggested him then!! But yeah, him! Just forgot his name. What a Roland he would make...

  • I think Christian Bale would do better... actually, have you seen The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford??? Brad Pitt's Jesse James reminds me a lot of Roland...

  • I don't mind if it's Christian Bale as long as he doesn't do that faggy Batman voice, as I said before...

  • Nick Cave as the Man in Black...or Henry Rollins even, someone a little out of the norm would suit it well. Guy Pearce as Roland, although Christian Bale looks good as well!

  • I think mike Maddsen would be a good Roland

  • Mads Mikkelsen would be the best actor to play Roland. He has the right build and face for it. He just looks like Roland as described from the book

  • hugh jackman or viggo mortensen should do it

  • voice of Blaine the Mono: None other than Tim Curry!:)

  • yeah thats a good idea

  • also i dont think i said how much i do like this video, i walk around al day rambling on about "the musical fruit" and no one has a clue what i am on about, well done Gotfilms!

  • yep Wizard is the only one you could make as a stand alone film, its probably my fav of the 7 which is strange as it was the one i looked forward to least! still though i dont wanna see it.

  • they should not make the dark tower into films, i like the version in my head most, i dont want it to be replaced with a directors vision of it, if any one was to play roland it would have to be viggo mortision, but i still maintain, i don't want to see it, how ever if it was made then i wouldnt be able to resist i'm affraid.

  • Pretty much exactly how I feel, the vision in my head just seems so perfect and I don't even want to see the trailers if it means that vision will be shattered

  • but do you think you would have the will power to resist? if it was as big as LOTR you would have to walk around with your eyes closed for years!

  • I think they should get a load of unknowns to play the parts, that would be much better. Be nice if King gave the guy who won this Stephen King competition the part of Brown or even a small cameo as someone.

  • Johnny Deep = Roland

Vince Vaughn = Cuthbert (trust me)

    Hale Berry = Susannah

Just some ideas PLEASE MAKE THIS MOVIE!

  • Johnny Depp is more of the wise guy type...not the roland type at all. Perhaps he could play Eddie.

  • Edward Norton as Eddie!

  • i would have to kill someone lol XD

  • vince vaughn as cuthbert? did you even read the books? you need a carefree boyish killer for bert, maybe a leo dicaprio or someone like that

  • All no-names for this adaptation. People liek Vaughn or Dicaprio would ruin it.

  • i dont think its a matter of choosing no names only. being famous doesnt mean they wouldnt be right for the part.

  • agreed

  • James McAvoy

  • A lot of people are slating this guys performance of Roland but I thought it was pretty good. Roland in the books has always sounded monotone in his manner of speaking in my mind, and this is exactly how the guy portrayed Roland. 5 out of 5.

  • Brown was really good, Roland was a good effort, but the only person I've ever seen pull off how Roland would be is Clint Eastwood. Its a shame he'll be too old by the time a movie adaptation is made. He would have made the movie real and amazing.

  • Wasn't bad. The only problem was the his interpretation of Roland was too far off and distant. Roland would talk much more down to earth and relaxed.

  • Is this based on a revised version of the first book or did they just take some poetic lisence?

  • It was taken directly from the rewrite King did of the book before releasing Wolves of Calla (DT 5). The dialogue is verbatim, save for one flub by the Dweller. The amount of poetic license can always be argued, but Stephen King, himself, enjoyed it.

  • LMAO "screw you! screw you!"

  • I thoght that was exellent

  • The guy playing Roland was trying to be The Man with No Name. It's a tough thing to pull off.

  • Roland is cheesy and sounds nothing like the books describe but ok I guess.

  • For a fan movie, it wasn't too bad. I rather enjoyed it. Yes, Roland was off and Zoltan was.. yea.. But Brown was great. All and all, it was a pretty nice tribute.

  • Great effort. Zoltan was pretty corny, and the Roland's voice I thought was off. Too light. Too smooth. I think it needed more gruffness. More confidence. It rolled over sentences instead of planting its' foot in them.

  • John C. McGinley...Dr. Cox from Scrubs...damn, I dunno about that, mate. I think it's a fine idea, but he'd need some work to get anywhere near that. The idea about the Deadwood people is gold, though.

  • Brown was portrayed rather well, Zoltan sounded absolutely fucking horrible but imitating a crow can't be easy. But really, wrong guy for Roland, he needs to be harder, more edged, less emotion. The killer blue eyes were not as pronounced as they could be. Cochrane didn't necessarily do a bad job though, just not the right actor for the part. Still I did like it.

  • I agree. If one word describes Roland, it's "gaunt". He should be a lot older with a deeper voice and his eyes would have the "thousand yard stare". He would seem older than he is having endured what he has. It's a good try but now with Eastwood being so old I have no clue who could play Roland convincingly.

  • Probably the only person who could is, these days, Viggo Mortensen.

His portrayal of Aragorn seemed to match Roland quite a bit. Quiet, with the blue eyes of a killer who knows more than anyone should.

Also, he could make himself fit the part like he did in Eastern Promises. Hell, in that he was more Russian than most Russians. The behind the scenes in the Promises DVD will tell you how far he'll go, mentally, for a part he plays.

  • Absolutely great choice with Viggo. Not too sure if he looks the part, but I'm sure they could arrange that. Definitely a good choice. Thankee sai.

  • Oh, nobody looks quite like Roland, but you're very welcome.

Long days and pleasant nights to you.

  • Aye. Thankee Sai. In my opinion, I still think Eastwood would have caught roland's immediate character incredibly well, but it's too late for that. Someone's gotta be able to do it, it's not impossible. And may you have twice the number.

  • viggo mortenson or maybe nathon fillion

  • Comment removed

  • Where was the mule?

  • Thankee sai

  • Roland came across a bit slurred/dopey, and it's a shame that the first film adaptation I have ever seen of the Gunsliger had no gunslinging in it!! Good effort, though.

  • Dweller and that psychodelic part were good.

Roland and Zoltan.. they didn't sound real. I'm sure it was hard to do the bird.

But then again, this was the first adaptation -no matter how short- I ever saw of the Dark Tower series, so yay!

  • i like the dwellers brown's acting. I just started the book and i'm around this point

  • That was the whole entry for the short.

  • that would imply you were the only one competing?

  • Do a google search for "simon schuster american gunslinger". I believe some of the other finalists are still up there. Also you may want to check out the rules to understand the restrictions on how the video was made.

  • thankee sai.

  • Roland sounds too breathy.

  • i always imagined roland with a deeper voice personally, but that was amazing

  • why does Roland sound like a pedophile? i know he's serious and all but that was a bit extreme. otherwise it wasn't bad at all.

  • This fucken rules.

  • i didnt knew you like the books

  • very well acted, hope to see more of this , on the people who made it ,

  • a fucking shame the last three books suck ass.

  • Zoltan sounds like Yoda! Can't wait till someone does the Dark Tower on the big screen.

  • Nice, though I have only one thing to point out. Brown looks nothing like King siad that he looked like. "A suprisingly young man with a wild shock of strawberry hair that reached almost to his waist." That guy looked a little old and... Well, I don't need to point that one out, do I?

It was still played out well, though.

  • ...well done.

  • cool vid!

  • Noice.

  • Quite a very good adaptation The Gunslinger, well edited and acted...

  • Dude, everything but zoltan was worth watching. If any more are made hit me up with a message

  • that was great!!

  • This was awesome! The part of Roland was played very well. His voice did make me think of Eastwood.
