I thought this was very good! Thanks for making this, i really enjoyed this excerpt! You should do another part, where they eat and roland thinks brown might be the sorcerer, that his little shack might be an illusion to trick him, that he thinks hes been drugged
i actually wouldn't mind Nathon Fillion for Roland. he or Viggo Mortenson. i think viggo would probably be best for the role, but Nathon could do it well too i think with his darker "mal reynolds" kinda character.
I Agree that Sawyer from lost or Viggo or Hugh Jackman could play Roland. But the voice would have be deep and errie as the book portrayed.I say Hugh because of the expression on his face when he's in rage.I hope they don't f*ck this up, please j.j. , I like the stories and do want to see it on film, but i'v seen it perfect in my mind when reading, don't mess that up!
They should probably use Timothy Olyphant as Roland, Michael Chiklis as Cort, Josh Brolin as Roland's father in flashbacks, oh and Gary Sinese would be perfect as Walter.
This was an entertaining vid. Although I didn't care for the actor's "interpetration" of Roland, I was impressed that he fooled me into thinking that the roles were being played by two different people. Zoltan was giggleworthy. Even though it's been a good bit since I've read this, I remember it being much more dustbowl-like, sandy and desperate. Argh! Ya' matey! Still, a great effort.
I have seen worse fan films, King has said that Roland is based on Eastwood from G,B,& U. He is too old now but would be great as Steven Deshain or Cort. Mads Mikkelsen would be perfect! JJ abrhams is set to direct but I think that each book should be done by different directors. Weird I know but each book has a different feel and I think that it would be the best way to convey that. JJ should produce but his vision is too realistic to show the full potential of the Dark Tower universe.
in order to make it work it would have to be a completely new face on the screen to portray Roland...Keanu?, Guy Pearce? my god people is this what american idol does to your brains?
i think Gale harold he has that somtimes old sometimes young look that eddie talked about in the drawing of the three and plus he posseses that "most of the time emotionless" side and he can also be an emotional i know he playes in queer as folk and all but i think this movie would be a great career boost for Gale Harold his eyes to blue and pale
Kevin Sorbo. Now that he's older and with dark hair of course. Brown's accent was fine for me. It's an imaginary world...who says you can't live in a place that looks like Texas and have an Irish accent? LOL
The guy playing Roland tried too hard to sound distant. I picture Roland actually talking a lot more down to earth. And while the actor playing Brown did well, I thought of the character as having a southern twang.
hugh jackman or mortensen for roland but if time ran both ways clint eastwood when he did josey wales. for me watching josey wales is like watching roland gather his ka tet. instead of a junkie it's a native american. they even have a dog which is as close to oy as you can get.
I enjoyed this scene. To me, The Gunslinger is something to great and special to be destroyed by hollywood. The way films are made these days, the right feel could never be captured. Just my opinion. Hollywood will never make the film i want to see. I don't want to see The Gunslinger turned into another bullshit hollywood movie. Filled with CGI and hollywood "sex symbols". I doubt i will see it when it's finally released. It's too sacred to me
But Roland is waaay angrier than the dudes in his original ka-tet. Besides, Christian Bale is too... I dunno, but as long as he doesn't put on that stupid, raspy Batman voice... >:(
I think Christian Bale would do better... actually, have you seen The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford??? Brad Pitt's Jesse James reminds me a lot of Roland...
Nick Cave as the Man in Black...or Henry Rollins even, someone a little out of the norm would suit it well. Guy Pearce as Roland, although Christian Bale looks good as well!
also i dont think i said how much i do like this video, i walk around al day rambling on about "the musical fruit" and no one has a clue what i am on about, well done Gotfilms!
yep Wizard is the only one you could make as a stand alone film, its probably my fav of the 7 which is strange as it was the one i looked forward to least! still though i dont wanna see it.
they should not make the dark tower into films, i like the version in my head most, i dont want it to be replaced with a directors vision of it, if any one was to play roland it would have to be viggo mortision, but i still maintain, i don't want to see it, how ever if it was made then i wouldnt be able to resist i'm affraid.
Pretty much exactly how I feel, the vision in my head just seems so perfect and I don't even want to see the trailers if it means that vision will be shattered
I think they should get a load of unknowns to play the parts, that would be much better. Be nice if King gave the guy who won this Stephen King competition the part of Brown or even a small cameo as someone.
A lot of people are slating this guys performance of Roland but I thought it was pretty good. Roland in the books has always sounded monotone in his manner of speaking in my mind, and this is exactly how the guy portrayed Roland. 5 out of 5.
Brown was really good, Roland was a good effort, but the only person I've ever seen pull off how Roland would be is Clint Eastwood. Its a shame he'll be too old by the time a movie adaptation is made. He would have made the movie real and amazing.
It was taken directly from the rewrite King did of the book before releasing Wolves of Calla (DT 5). The dialogue is verbatim, save for one flub by the Dweller. The amount of poetic license can always be argued, but Stephen King, himself, enjoyed it.
For a fan movie, it wasn't too bad. I rather enjoyed it. Yes, Roland was off and Zoltan was.. yea.. But Brown was great. All and all, it was a pretty nice tribute.
Great effort. Zoltan was pretty corny, and the Roland's voice I thought was off. Too light. Too smooth. I think it needed more gruffness. More confidence. It rolled over sentences instead of planting its' foot in them.
John C. McGinley...Dr. Cox from Scrubs...damn, I dunno about that, mate. I think it's a fine idea, but he'd need some work to get anywhere near that. The idea about the Deadwood people is gold, though.
Brown was portrayed rather well, Zoltan sounded absolutely fucking horrible but imitating a crow can't be easy. But really, wrong guy for Roland, he needs to be harder, more edged, less emotion. The killer blue eyes were not as pronounced as they could be. Cochrane didn't necessarily do a bad job though, just not the right actor for the part. Still I did like it.
I agree. If one word describes Roland, it's "gaunt". He should be a lot older with a deeper voice and his eyes would have the "thousand yard stare". He would seem older than he is having endured what he has. It's a good try but now with Eastwood being so old I have no clue who could play Roland convincingly.
Probably the only person who could is, these days, Viggo Mortensen.
His portrayal of Aragorn seemed to match Roland quite a bit. Quiet, with the blue eyes of a killer who knows more than anyone should.
Also, he could make himself fit the part like he did in Eastern Promises. Hell, in that he was more Russian than most Russians. The behind the scenes in the Promises DVD will tell you how far he'll go, mentally, for a part he plays.
Aye. Thankee Sai. In my opinion, I still think Eastwood would have caught roland's immediate character incredibly well, but it's too late for that. Someone's gotta be able to do it, it's not impossible. And may you have twice the number.
Roland came across a bit slurred/dopey, and it's a shame that the first film adaptation I have ever seen of the Gunsliger had no gunslinging in it!! Good effort, though.

Roland Deschain - Hugh Laurie? I actually think that Christian Bale wouldn't be half-bad.
Eddie Dean - Edward Norton
Susannah Holmes - Zoe Saldana
Jake Chambers - Skandar Keynes
The Man in Black Jeremy Irons
Cuthbert Allgood Joseph Gordon Levitt
Father Callahan - Donald Sutherland
Steven Deschain - Clint Eastwood, definitely.
