I can tell you now, don't put a bunch of legumes together. I once had peas and kidney beans along with brown rice (even when i wasn't vegan rice never settled well with me) it was a large portion too. I could not sleep! It just would not digest or go all the way down. I desperately tried to puke up in the middle of the night, no luck. I wasn't going to the toilet properly for ages, it sucked.
Hi Heather...great vid! I think my problem is since I turned vegetarian I do experience more gas...eeek. My biggest problem is grapes. But I love them so much I am willing to put up with it. I will tell you what I have noticed.....when I eat any store bought bread now my stomach feels like a brewer's vat. I do tend to make my own bread now but I still suffer with the bloating. :)
I will take a look at this Heather. I didn't think you used corn, wheat, and soy. I couldn't see that actually. I see you as a more careful, informed nutritionist and educator. Probably organic if you use it. I think I saw you talking on those things actually--to minimize use or avoid. I can't remember. Thanks for the video.
i am always roped in to listening to you because of your subject lines, but you rarely actually give the information in your videos. it's frustrating. i look forward to information-packed videos in the future.
@tribekat well, like I said in the video, food combining is tricky to give info verbally without it getting confusing - but there is an information-packed article on my site if you click the link under the video. All of the most important food combining guidelines are there, along with a chart that Phil put together to make it much easier to understand :) I hope that helps! thanks for watching :)
I'm an aspiring vegetarian, and I tend to eat chicken and fish. Sometimes I'll have beans, and dahl as substitute to meats for protein, and I'll get very bloated. So to combat bloating I'll have ginger green tea, with lemon and sweetened with honey. It makes bloating go away, and has a great soothing effect on my digestion in general..I'm not entirely sure of the science behind this drink, but I've read ginger helps with gas/bloating. Keeps me happy :)
@zooropa84 yeah, ginger is great for stimulating digestion and soothing the stomach. I'm not sure about the science either, but it's been used for a long, long time - before pepto bismal and gravol ;)
This is the one area of diet/nutrition which I'll have to disagree with Heather, and only because I spent a year experimenting with the concept. Sorry :-( I believe our stomach can handle a mix of foods without any issue. If one is having gas or other trouble, it seems to be more related to the actual food and not improper combining. I can go with this, but until science proves that food combining is legit, it's all anecdotal evidence we are dealing with.
@InvisiMan2006 no worries, disagreements are fine :) And you're right, it is anecdotal, but that's the whole idea - try it to see if it works for you. When it works for so many people there's no harm in trying it, right?
You look good--healthy. Your hair looks nice. I am doing a bit better since I last communicate with you. My name is Cheryl. I went on a strict elimination diet adding a small amount of fish and shrimp. I was so sick, but I think whole food vegan is great for autoimmune--just so you know. Thought I would say hello.
@healthyvegan I feel the same way. I am still using a wheelchair, but I can type. Any thoughts on elimination diets, Celiac-type patients, and getting in calories without eliminating via "vomiting." I try but the elimination list is long. I should post what I can have and that might help. Or search your videos. The big three are out for me--corn, soy, and wheat. I don't see it happening. Perhaps, Native American corn, but that is it. Too weird for me. ;)
@Marielisa510 yeah, sounds like he's in the fast metabolism category :) If he's hungry often and not gaining too much weight, then you could use opposite food combining rules for him to make the energy of his food last longer - mix proteins/fats with carbohydrates :)
@Marielisa510 I definitely think some kids would be in the fast metabolism category, but there are getting to be more and more overweight children and teenagers, and they would benefit. Food combining isn't necessarily about restricting calories, so even kids at a regular weight who eat a lot of junk foods could probably benefit from a food combining-type cleanse :)
@lciaravi it's a Canadian outdoor/sports store called Mountain Equipment Co-op. Similar to REI in the states if you know that one... anyway, they do ship to the US and internationally. Go to mec dot ca :)
