Thank you for making this video. For ages I have had a few of the tools I thought that I needed (mainly because my brother stole them but hey) and you have just put my mind at rest thank you. I do have a book of shadows but I don't rite everything down, only the spells and when I ask for dreams and stuff, other then that it's kind of empty.
Thank you! I love my Book of Shadows, I love writing everything down, but that's just me. Everyone is different and to be honest, you don't need anything to be a witch. It depends on the person. Some people don't use BoS's, but that doesn't make them any less. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
but yeah, some people are stuck on stereotypes and what all the books they read, say.... and go "ok so to be a witch you have to wear a pentacle, dress in black, chant and be creepy"... Uh no. Every witch is not the same. It's the same with churches and it's the same with pagan practitioners. It's up to the individual. Sheesh lol.
of course you don't *need* a BoS, but it just sorta helps as a quick reference of what you do and spells, incantations, etc. a lot... but I agree that to do witchcraft you really don't need tools. Scott Cunningham has Earth Magic, as well as "Earth, Air, Fire, Water: more techniques of natural magic" and in it he explains how much you just don't need tools.. if they help you, fine. but in a pinch, you CAN do without them.
It's good to practice without the tools some of the time, so that you are able to do things when you don't have your tools around, like during travel.
Great vid! I love what you said. The only thing is that I think those who do not keep a Book of Shadows are doing a great disservice to themselves. I think they will regret it in the future but that is their business. Also, while I agree we do not need the tools I dont think they should be discarded because under normal circumstances they are a great help. I know you didnt mean that but I think it can confuse some of the newer witches if we dont say it.
I agree! I think the BoS and other tools are a great help. The BoS is great for keeping track of a person's spiritual path, and the other tools are great to help with focus, and etc. I think I might make another video this week clarifying that. Thank you for your comment!
If you personally feel that you are a witch, then you are. No one can tell you otherwise or say you are wrong. Witchcraft itself is very individual, it's different for each person.
'i have a dvd...uh...' = funny stuff (good save, by the way).
i think that more often then not, the motivation behind much of the youtube criticism and snarkiness is a need to feed the unhealthy aspects of the ego. this strikes me as anti-prayer... the intentional separation between self and other for the sole purpose of causing suffering (in the form of an attack on another's ability or integrity). best defense? counter crappiness with kindness.
You are a Witch if you frequently practice spells and magick. Pure and simple. It doesn't matter weather you are Pagan, Wiccan, Christian, Satanist, Hindu, Santerian, or any other religion. I even know of some athiest Witches, who say that their magick is purely psychological or that they access the "energy of the universe" for their Craft. You do NOT need to be Wiccan to be a Witch. Or even a Pagan for that matter. MANY traditions of Witchcraft do not use a book of shadows.
@TeenWitch777 I don't agree. A witch is someone who incoporates their belief into everyday life. Spells are usually ceremonial. Being one with the earth mother and helping others is what makes you real. Walking your walk and talking your talk. Spells are not necessary. Some witches see planting a tree as magick and thinking positive as a spell. Helping the earth and your fellow human is what a real witch does.
@cgray6306 By the definition of being one with mother earth and helping others, even somebody who lives the green lifestyle and is a good person is a Witch. This is obviously not true. To call one's self a Witch, you must practice some kind of ceremonial spellcraft or ritualcraft. Witchcraft is a blend between tribal Shamanism and Ceremonial Organized Spiritual systems. I do most CERTAINLY agree that a Witch incorporates magick into every day life.
@TeenWitch777 I never said not to use spells and magick. Helping people by using magick is what I meant. Im talking about initiations and all that bs.
@TeenWitch777 And to say "This is obviously not true" goes against most neo pagan religions because it is all a matter of ones own opinion. There is no right or wrong. All paths lead to the divine in one form or another. All beliefs and opinions too.
@cgray6306 well certainly not all green people who are helpful and friendly and kind are Witches. Let's take my Mom as an example. She is a devout Christian. Yet she is very, very, green, and she is a wonderful person. She is clearly not a Witch. I wasn't trying to be condecending or bitchy in saying that people such as her are "obviously not Witches". This is simply a fact.
@TeenWitch777 I believe we are all witches inside whether we know or believe it. Its something that you have to awaken too. Something thats there but needs to be acknowledged like psychic abilities in some cases.
@cgray6306 ah okay. I disagree, because I think that is like a Christian saying that "we are all Christians on the inside, but we just need to wake up to being Christian." or "we are all Buddhists on the inside, but we just need to wake up to being Buddhists." But everybody has their own set of beliefs, and if you believe that, then that is your spritual right.
@TeenWitch777- you raise an interesting point about what exactly constitutes 'witchcraft'. i wouldn't count all magical methodologies as witchcraft, though they may be just as effective in bringing about change according to will. ritual magic, ceremonial magic, religious-specific 'miracle' magic, just as a few examples, have much in common with witchcraft, yet their practitioners don't necessarily resonate with the idea of being labeled 'witch'. there's more to witchcraft then just magic. -lq
@TeenWitch777- cant offer a concrete, absolute definition so much as common characteristics: belief in and connection with spiritual world, attunement with cycles of sun and moon, control of self as both the expression and active agent of natural environment, experientially oriented (as opposed to theory-oriented), search for wisdom/truth through personal development and will (not through established patterns/systems/designs), major focus on manifestation (rather then transcendence).
[part 2]- the distinction can be subtle, for example: sigil magic is not witchcraft (though it is incredibly effective and one of the major components of my own practice... and i'm a witch), whereas blood magic is witchcraft. catholic transubstantiation magic is not witchcraft, where wiccan drawing down the moon magic would be. failth healing and reiki are not witchcraft, herb/crystal healing is. witches use multiple methods of energy-work, its the wisdom behind the method that qualifies it.
@forkfullofpie - let me reword that last statement... magic is what it is, depending upon its application, target, and source. but its the wisdom of the individual practitioner that determines how the effects of the magic manifest - so a witch can employ non-witchcraft magic and still be a witch, just as a ceremonial ritualist can perform witchcraft yet still remain ceremonial. needless to say there's quite a bit of overlap (which is why i can't offer a specific definition per se.
@forkfullofpie Ah, okay. We don't have the same definition of Witchcraft is all. xD Hence the disagreement. I see all of the above as Witchcraft, even if the practitioners do not lable it as such. I practice all of these the above (save the Catholic bit), however, and DO see them as Witchcraft. So I guess it all depends upon how you lable yourself.
Do you see Wicca as the only true form of Witchcraft?
@TeenWitch777 - no, i see wicca as a religion that utilizes witchcraft as the fulcrum between power and wisdom - but the religion has no ownership of the practice. witchcraft is shared heritage, a birthright of being born human. i often use wicca as the illustrative example because that's what i am, so that's where my direct experience lay. and its high-profile enough that most people can relate, whereas i'd have to explain more if i used, say, african tribal witchcraft as an example.
@TeenWitch777- at the risk of this becoming a high vs. low magic discussion, its the mechanics of the method backed by the will of the practitioner - the difference between saying 'reality is just so because i will it to be just so' as opposed to saying 'reality just is and my place in it just is'. its actualization based on OVERcoming (think 'great work') as opposed to actualization based on BEcoming (think 'reality-immersion').
[part2] - magic itself (when thought of as a unified 'force') is neither this nor that. like a yin-yang with the two poles circling into one another, each containing the seed of the other, if there is no manipulator, then the energy itself remains in a state of balance - but consciousness acts as a disruptor, so the practitioner actually modifies the system according to their will (the observer affects the observed) which is why we see separation (ie, high and low) when really there isn't any.
i am a wiccan because it is the type of religion where you mold the religion for yourself and not yourself to the religion....i am a very independent person and i am very solitary and wicca allows me to use my own interpretation of wicca for myself. so i think that everyone should follow whatever makes sense to them, and to follow whatever makes them feel connected to something more powerful than themselves...if that makes sense..haha
That makes perfect sense! That is one of the reasons I turned towards Wicca as well. I feel as though spirituality is very personal and it's up to the individual to discover which path to go down and also what works for them as they follow that particular path.
I absolutely agree with EVERYTHING you said. Hopefully those who disciminate others beliefs with think about your message in this video. And I'm happy you're figuring out your spidermania! :-)
the subject of need verses use of tools etc, is normally an inner circle teaching when you are in a tradition. This part of the reason traditions and covens are important. pt 2 also you should not be telling beginners that they do not need any of these things. That knowledge will come with training and understanding, telling people that have very little to no grasp of what they are doing should rely on the use of these tools in order to focus on what they are doing and then learn to shed them as they from in experience. Over all I agree but I disagree with some of your ideas..
Great video! I think that you explained the situation and the topic in a very articulate way that everyone should be able to understand. Kudos to you! :)

@AuroraMoonWolf we ask for tolerance but many of us can not show it.... From the bright side, I think that this is a great opportunity to learn a few things... :) Blessings
by the way another reason im leaving is now people are threatening those who dis agree witht that video saying its hatred if one gives an opinion and calls one '' fluffy '' , I recently watched a video where people are forming circles to '' keep eachothers backs '' and I totally didnt join this community for that. I really should private message you.
i also left the first time when I had the other account becaus christians kept flagging videos down that wiccans put up , It's totally taking the fun out of everything now but you posted a great video. Thanks for that. I have to fav.
Thank you, I tried to be as respectful as I could about the topic, because frankly, I'm tired of this whole thing too. And I know that a few Christians have been flagging videos. They still do it from time to time, unfortunately.
lol this is why im leaving youtube. I just think its getting annoying and I cant watch the channels promoting the videos anymore. I did the vr I am aware - I just no longer care anymore. I also think its deffinatley fake when people claim to be wiccan and practice harm ye none but yet have rituals on their channels threatening people because others dont like them.
Oh, I didn't know this had anything to do with your leaving. I agree with you on the harm none thing. If someone hurts me, I let karma do its thing, but other people call me fluffy because I don't curse people.
@AuroraMoonWolf I deffinatley would NOT say you were fluffy if you were cursed Id say that is your own business. My path is of the rede anyway so we see eye to eye on that one.
@AutumnsWitchyKoopa5 What channels? I've been reading your comments and watching your videos lately, and with all due respect, I think that it is a great idea that you're leaving until after you have your baby. This is your first child, and you may not realize how hormonal and overemotional you are right now. As a mother of two, I remember that feeling. Taking a break from here would be the best thing for everyone (especially your baby) until you can come back more balanced and less stressed.
@peekaboopixie Why does everyone keep thinking im stressed, lol this is the second comment I've gotten. Thank you for your polite words - but im not stressed IM JUST annoyed. There was a video posted today on some channel that I saw that said they were keeping eachothers backs and forming circles. I'm not getting into this anymore really , I could care less whats going on.
@AutumnsWitchyKoopa5 When people start telling you the same thing over and over, it's a good time to step back, take a deep breath, and reassess the situation. Search within and be honest with yourself. You might be surprised what you discover. Internet drama is meaningless. Who's right and who's wrong about the 'correct' way to walk one's own spiritual path is not important. Leave that behavior to the Christians.;) What is important is the health of your baby. Your baby feels your emotions.
@peekaboopixie Who's right and who's wrong doesnt concern me anymore. I dont wish to be apart of the issue. I'll deffinatley NOT comment on it anymore because of how annoying its gotten. I'm now bluntly Ignoring it. You have good points. I choose to ignore christians as well personally.
Thank you for making this video. For ages I have had a few of the tools I thought that I needed (mainly because my brother stole them but hey) and you have just put my mind at rest thank you.
